I originally wanted to keep this project a secret until I had screenshots to show you guys, but I need some help, so it's time to recruit people for Rockman DASH: Balls of Steel. However, I'm not comfortable announcing things like this on forums without offering at least some kind of sneak peek at what I'm doing, so you can download a couple songs from the soundtrack here (temporary link; sadly, only valid for three weeks).
Q: What is it?
A: It's a first-person shooter remake of Rockman DASH using Half-Life 2's Source engine. T-rated humour will also be injected into the script, which is to be expected when you're seeing things from Rock's point of view (if you understand my implications).
Q: If this is a Source mod, does that mean I need Steam to play it?
A: I don't see why you'd need Steam as long as you have at least one of these games installed. Portal's a great game and it's the only option for people who are too young to buy M-rated games, but Half-Life 2 Deathmatch is the cheapest ($5 USD).
Q: What's with the title?
A: It's a parody of the original Japanese title, Rockman DASH: Adventurous Spirit of Steel, as well as a tribute to Duke Nukem 3D.
Q: Who's working on it?
A: The design, script, music, sound effects, and probably some voices are being done by me. General assistance is also being generously provided by JMC47 (Mega Man Legends Expansion) and deathtojohnny (Mega Man Evolution). Maps are currently undergoing construction by drscience123 (Project Kattelox). Others have agreed to help, but haven't done anything yet.
Q: May I join?
A: Please do. At present, I am desperately seeking programmers and 3D modellers. I may also need artists, voice actors, extra mappers, translators, and testers, but those can all wait a while.
Q: Will you pay me?
A: Maaaaaaybe. *whistles*
Q: What kind of programming needs to be done?
A: If you think you'd be able to program Rockman DASH-styled adventure game elements (zenny, buster parts, equipment, inventory, dark/light armour, interactive dialogue, etc.) into a Source game, that's what I need. I don't know if that requires game-specific knowledge or not. Oh yeah, and cell-shading. That's important.
Q: How can I audition for the part of [character name here]?
A: If you want to join the voice cast, send a recording as well as your MMLS username to clevelandrock@gABCmail.com (remove the capital letters… spam-bot protection). The more voices you do in the recording, the better! Just remember that I don't need voice actors right away and you may be waiting a really long time before I ask you to do anything. Also remember that only RMD1 character voices are needed, but even minor characters and generic villagers will require voices.
Q: How do I join?
A: Just give me a message.
Q: This sounds kinda difficult.
A: What's your question?
Q: Is this gonna be one of those failures that will never be finished?
A: You have my promise that I will never abandon this project as long as I'm alive, out of prison, and not getting sued by Capcom.
Q: Why not do something more original?
A: Because this is better.
Q: If this is a first-person shooter, does that mean you're getting rid of the adventure elements of the series?
A: Don't be silly.
Q: Will there be a third-person mode?
A: Third-person mode will almost definitely be available. However, it may take away from the experience of actually being Rock Volnutt.
Interested? Cool. I'll post important updates in this thread. Also, you never know when Rock will leak the secrets of Kattelox onto his Twitter page…
