Good to hear you got out HF. How busy are the airports? If they are open that means supplies can be airlifted in!
I can't find solid reliable information everywhere I look another place contradicts it so, eh.

Tokyo's major airports have already become active at around 12th March noontime.
I got to Narita at around 0800 (Japan time) on the 13th of March, having got my flight rescheduled into the early morning. As for how busy they were, the place was filled with immigration ambassadors from different countries who are working to get their people out ASAP. There has also been evidence that people were sleeping inside the airports due to the laid-out blankets and empty cans lying around.
Had Tokyo been in a more serious situation, I would have seen far more mass freakouts among the crowds. Of course, I cannot say for sure now with the meltdown risks and blackouts hitting everything wired in a region (transport, medical facilities etc).

That dosen't sound good and there have been more explosions. I don't think this is going to turn out well but I'll be optimistic till the end.
A bit of good news though..........finally heard from my brother. He is still in Japan and he is okay.

Avegodro: That's good to know. I checked with a few people who I worked closely with in Japan. They all seem fine as well.

Thats also good to hear HF. I hope everyone stays safe over there. Crap.........japan nuclear crisis rated a 6 out of 7 on severity scale. Chernobyl was rated a 7, so yeah this is getting really bad. Radioactive material is drifiting across the pacific. Guys I don't know........

Radioactive material is drifiting across the pacific. Guys I don't know........ Tokyo, which is only a little over 200 kilometres from the Fukushima nuclear plants, was affected by radiation which was reported to only be the equivalent of X-Rays. Given how much 'filtration' and dispersion the radiation cloud would go through before it reaches the Americas, it would hopefully not be as harmful as envisioned Edit: Of course, if even one person gets sick from it (faked or otherwise), the hatred for Japan would be fueled unjustly again. As if those Pearl Harbor Bandwagon remarks were not bad enough as it is.

If entire countries start hating on Japan because one idiot decided to fake radiation poisoning instead of taking preventative measures to ensure that no more nuclear meltdowns cause this sort of thing to begin with, then people really are irrational. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. :-\

The general public is weak, but far from powerless. Examples being the extremists voicing their groundless opinions online, and even extending to its own government at one point (even if repealed).
I too hope it won't go full circle to mid-WWII again, when the hatred against the Japanese was full-blown and evident in propaganda.
Humans have come so far with ideals of diversity, acceptance and a level of understanding only reachable by throwing away redundant nationalism pride. And it's all going to be thrown away due to one petty issue while disregarding the disaster itself? Seriously.

People need to lay off Japan and let WWII alone. Come on we made peace with them, we're allies for crying out loud. Yet people think is a bright idea to TARNISH the past with crap like this. This also dishonors our boys and girls over there helping out. As for the radioactive cloud I'm not worried at all the states. We can stick it in neutral for all I care. We don't have a possible nuclear disaster on our hands and our people aren't lost amidst a sea of destruction. We're a big country we can handle it. If people want to get that irrational, I don't think I would be first in line to punch the person who did fake rad posioning. Here is some information: (might have posted it before) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fukushima_I_nuclear_accidents

The IAEA has raised the warning level to 5 out of a possible 7 (with 7 being Chernobyl). Things just seem to be getting worse...

If they can't keep the rods cool in the reactors they are going to seal them in cement. So it can go either way right now.
