Radioactive material is drifiting across the pacific. Guys I don't know........ Once again America proves to be selfish. What about the areas much closer to Japan, such as other parts of Asia or even Australia? Of course HF showed that even Tokyo isn't getting a lot, but still, why should always AMERICA matter? I realize that what I said is probably offensive, but I will not be taking it back.

Well Doc, America sure isn't getting anything close to as bad as Japan, but that doesn't be it shouldn't be a concern. Personally I doubt that radiation is going to do anything, but I can see why folk would worry. Prayers for Japan.

No no no I wasn't worried about America there. I was concerned with the fact that the reactors we're leaking that bad.
You should read my lovely post on the previous page about america and there concerns for radiation.
I now hate the fact that one source is all doom & gloom and another source is like is all good guys! Stupid media.

Just a quick note here. A friend of mine brought to my attention that the clothing store Forever21 is donating 100% of their online proceeds today to the relief effort. I'm probably one of the least fashion-conscious people in the world, so I'm not particularly interested (also, I'm not certain the promotion extends to the 21Men stuff). But for those who are, I thought I'd share.

If they can't keep the rods cool in the reactors they are going to seal them in cement. So it can go either way right now. So it does make sense that they raise the alert level; things are coming to a conclusion for better or worse.

Author of xkcd, Randall Munroe drew up a pretty slick diagram about Radiation Doses, to give you some kind of perspective about these recent happenings and things you might be hearing on the news/etc/whatever. I can only pretend to understand it so much, but I thought it was pretty interesting anyway.

Very nice. This will be handy evidence that it's safe for me to go back to Tokyo.
EDIT: I'm afraid not; with news of the water supply being contaminated (among other things untracable due to long half-lives).
As for 'what now', I am considering a transfer down to the Osaka branch.

From what I've been hearing on NPR, there has been no serious (potential to cause any health issues for nearby residents) radiation so far, and there is no risk of the reactors' condition worsening.

They said that the problem may be resolved within half a year, though I bet paranoia would be off the scales. Foreign media making a big fuss doesn't help either.
