Well, this game just came out less than a week ago, and honestly it's quite amazing! I like how streamlined everything is here (you can register 2 items now!), as it puts a fresh spin on a classic game. This is pretty much the best Pokemon game I've played to date, and I'm not even halfway through it!
I decided to choose Totodile as a starter this time around (I chose Chikorita in the original). Currently, I've got 3 badges, and I even managed to catch a shiny Goldeen, as well as the Pokerus virus. The new gimmicks such as the Pokethlon are quite engaging, and I'd have to recommend that Minesweeper-like card game you can play in Goldenrod City, as it's quite challenging. It's cool to see old favorites like the bug-catching contest return as well.
Anyone else currently enjoying this game?

I have yet to get the game, but am eagerly looking forward to it. Gold and Silver were my favorites. From what I've heard/watched, it's pretty amazing. Only question is if you can turn off the "Pokemon following you" thing. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty cool, but it'd be annoying to me if you always had to have it follow you.

I bought this on Monday. I am loving it so far. Pokémon Gold and Silver were not only my favorite Pokémon games, but I'd put them up there with my top five games of all time even. Perfection itself. The first night I bought this I didn't think I'd ever have time to play it. I clocked 6 and a half hours that night. I went to bed around 6AM. >___< It's so addicting. I've got about three badges(EDIT: four now) as well at this point, although I think I've done just about everything I can do before challenging the Gym Leader in Ecruteak. Thus far I've devoted quite a bit of time to leveling and evolving as many Pokémon as I can get my hands on. I'm up to 62 Caught and 102 seen. ^__^ I'll post up my friendcode when I get a friendcode. x__x It may be a good idea to keep a listing of all of them in the first post. Blues They don't follow you when you're riding your bike. That's about the best you can do. They don't get in the way or anything, but I agree with you somewhat. That was one thing I didn't care about at all when Yellow version came out back in the day. @buster Cannon Voltorb Flip is not Minesweeper. It's a different animal all together. It took me forever to get the pattern down, and even now I don't even make it past level four or so. >___< (I got my Dratini, though, and that's all that matters. <3 (and a Sandshrew!))

Got it. Played it. Am quite impressed with it. I haven't played that much, I've been keeping myself from indulging too much in it (I prefer to play games at a slow pace). I just beat Falkner and am on my way to Union Cave. I don't have my friend code yet either, but I'll be sure to post it soon (I still want a rematch with you, Buster Canon, I trained lots more and I believe I'm better than I was last time ). The Pokéwalker is, imo, a fantastic idea. I bring it everywhere I can, and it really feels like I'm bringing my Pokémon along with me every I go. I really feel like I'm....bonding with it...as much as a real person can, you know, bond with a mass of pixels. What really impressed me though, is how they changed the music. In FR and LG, it was just redone with the requirements of the GBA, but now, they actually remixed the music! This is going to keep me busy for quite a while. I can't wait to get far enough to be able to battle online (to a certain extent).

Well, I've got 4 badges now! At this point I'm just taking it slow now that I can Surf where I want and such. Furret is the perfect HM slave for this game, as it learns Surf, Rock Smash, Cut, and Strength.
@staulmaster
It'll be pretty cool getting to battle you again! I'm still getting my in-game team assembled myself, and I'm going to have to import my other pokemon from Platinum as some point of another. I used the Pokewalker earlier today; I'll have to get used to carrying it if I want to get the most use out of it. It reminds me of that old Pokemon Pikachu that was out back in the day.
@green
Voltorb Flip reminds me of Minesweeper in that you can mark tiles that you know are dangerous. I've never gotten past level 3 myself, but it's still addicting in it's own right, and there's a feeling of sheer satisfaction when you actually clear a stage. Have you tried the Pokethlon yet?
BTW, you can get a Friend Code by heading downstaris in the POkemon center and talking to the receptionist. She'll give a Pal Pad, and then you'll have to access your Wi-fi to get a Friend Code. I was able to access it after getting one badge (it was either that or when I hit Azelea Town).

lol oh wow. Yeah, I just left the Pokéwalker in the case. I don't really have any interest in that. I may try it later, though; it's been so nice outside lately, I could use a walk. (>__<) But yeah. Seems too much like the old Pokémon Pikachu. That thing was silly. I has a Friend Code now. I had to sort out some problem with my Wi-Fi before I could get it to work. So here you have it: ANDYMAN [3009-0326-7334] @buster Cannon You can mark spaces like in Minesweeper, but the numbers you turn over have nothing to do with how many bombs are touching that square, which is the basis of Minesweeper. I tried the Pokéthlon, but I didn't care about it much. I'll have to try it again. I participated in the Bug Catching contest the other day. Added pages to my Poké for Caterpie, Metapod and Butterfree. I only got to keep the Butterfree, though. And I was thiiiis close to catching a Scyther, but he got a Critical Hit (!) and wiped out my Weepinbell. That was a bummer. Speaking of bummers, catching Raikou is a pain. I've got him Sleeping, with just barely a sliver of health left, and I still can't get him. (Entei still has a good bit of health for me to wear down) I have no idea how any one catches these guys without using the cheap way out; although I seem to remember catching Raikou back in the day, so maybe it is possible.. I missed a Tauros, too. >__< I ran into him randomly and I was totally going to get him, but I accidentally hit the "Run" button. That didn't feel great. Anyway, I took down the Gym Leader in Ecruteak, so now I have four badges. I'm going back to cover whatever ground I missed before I could Surf. If I should fill in a dozen more pages of my Pokédex in the meanwhile, so be it. (69 as of this writing, with one so close to evolving it might be 70 by the time I finish) Then I'll head back to Olivine.. EDIT: My starter's finally fully evolved! Typhlosion (now nicknamed FLAMEMAN) looks badass. I would've had him evolved a long while ago, but taking time to capture and evolve as many as I can really took up a lot of my time. >___< I'm up to 81 Captured now. ^__^ (incl. Lapras from Union Cave!)How much time have you guys clocked? I'm at just over 31 hours. (EDIT: now 37)

Daaaang, I want SoulSilver so badly...but I am a broke college senior and had to use my funds for food and new jeans. D: I am curious about the mail system though...is it like the old Gold and Silver where you were allowed to physically type out letters to your friends, or do you have to pick from the stupid word bank that they started in RSE?
Though I'm kinda sorta jumping back on the bandwagon and pulling Pearl back out. So far I've got a L100 and four more that are all camped out in the mid eighties, but I'm not quite sure how compatible they are. I imagine it's pretty solid, since there aren't really any *new* Pokemon running around yet.

Some guy in the Pokécenter asked me a question and I was forced to respond with the tedious word bank, so as far as I can tell, there's no way to type out your own letters, unfortunately.
Update: I haven't got to advance in the game yet but I caught three Staryu on my Pokéwalker!
Edit: I received my Friend Code, here it is: 4555 2220 5661

Ugh, that word bank reeks. I know it's probably to keep people from harassing each other and to keep it as E-rated as possible, but...
Well, messing with the word bank can be alright. "Hey, check out my Grandmother!" "You must be drooling!" and "I love dry skin!" almost make it worth your while.
Almost.

Yeah, I just tested the mail system, and you're pretty much limited to the same pre-written phrases as before. In a sense I can see why, though, as they want to prevent online harassment.
In other news, I just picked up my Red Gyarados, and I'm catching quite a few pokes. I've clocked about 21 hours total. The Pokewalker's quite useful, as you can get items and catch Pokemon w/o having your DS nearby. I generally keep it in my pocket even if there's nothing in it, so as to generate a high number of Watts.
So far I've got a L100 and four more that are all camped out in the mid eighties, but I'm not quite sure how compatible they are. I imagine it's pretty solid, since there aren't really any *new* Pokemon running around yet. Yep, HG/SS is fully compatible with all of the fourth gen games.
BTW, if you haven't noticed already, I'm using the first post as a Friend Code repository.

Although really like the mechanics of the Pokéwalker, it seems like you can almost catch the vast majority of the Pokémon in the game in the Pokéwalker. It's cool but at the same time, if you're not that far into the game but use the Pokéwalker a whole lot, you won't need to search for catching Pokémon as much. Whether that's good or bad depends on the player, though.
Oh, by the way, I forgot to say what my name was (although I hardly think it matters, since the game gives it to you once you meet that player), but it's Jak.

Well, I heard the Pokewalker Pokemon have preset genders, not a huge hindrance but if you're into breeding and the like...

I'm loving this game so far too. Anyone else notice that a bunch of people our age are playing this game, instead of kids? There was a bunch of college kids at the midnight release at my local Gamestop. And when I walked into the lecture hall for one of my classes, I saw a couple of people playing it! Pretty much shows how we grew up with the original game. I think I was in middle school when I first got a hold of the original Gold and Silver.
Best games in the series, in my opinion. I think it was thanks to a lot of innovations that were introduced in this game, such as a day and night cycle, and the Pokegear with all of its features.
Oh, and a warning about the Pokewalker. Just like the Pokemon Day Care, Pokemon that level up in your Pokewalker won't learn moves when they level up. So my Pokewalker will be primarily be used to catch Pokemon and dowse for items. My best catch so far was a Dratini! ;D

Yeah, I agree. I was just thinking how this game brings back a lot of memories from my old days playing Gold (I was in the fourth grade, I believe). So it doesn't surprise me to hear that a bunch of people our age are playing it as well, we're half the market! Thanks for the heads-up with the Pokéwalker RockBusterMan, that may be the reason why my Spinarak hasn't learned Scary Face yet .

Oh, and a warning about the Pokewalker. Just like the Pokemon Day Care, Pokemon that level up in your Pokewalker won't learn moves when they level up. Actually, Pokemon in the Day Care do learn moves when they level up, in which case it overwrites one of your moves without your knowledge. Pokemon in the Pokewalker can only gain one level per walk, so I'm not sure how that plays out. Spinarak gets Scary Face at L5, so either he's not there yet or it simply doesn't gain moves from the Pokewalker.
