and mine might be a little bit late. Quoted for self-relevance. DX Yeah, I don't have my tablet with me, and since acquiring it I have lost all ability to draw with a mouse, so I'm having to use pencil/pen/paper. I'm also having a really hard time thinking up a medium/style change to try out with mine. It will probably be late coming in.

Guesswhatguesswhatguesswhat.
I got halfway 'round drawing the background, and my pen ran out. D:
You won't even notice, though.
Although of course you will now.

Err...
Admittedly, I’m going to be a bit late as well. Had some last minute stuff that came up last week, and have been entertaining guests for the holidays over most of the weekend. >_>
To everyone who’s going to be late, just send it to me when you can. The sooner the better, though.
And to Fab, sorry, but this may end up cutting it a little close. Hopefully you’ll still be able to set everything up. I’ll send you what’s already submitted some time tomorrow.

Well I wanted them all done by the end of the 23rd so that we could have them on the main site on Christmas Eve day, but I can do the ones that are ready and then just add the rest as they come in. It's no biggie. Better than than never, I always say!
I may be among the "better late" myself. I only last night finally made up my mind as to what my image was going to be (after changing my mind several times through this past week), and made the initial sketches. I am going to spend as much of today as I can spare attempting to complete it by tonight though.
Good luck to myself and to all my fellow participants who are cutting it close!

Not only is this going to be late, it's not turning out as well as I'd hoped.

AWesome range of style. Love the diversity. Looks like more people met the deadline than they led on. BTW, whoever got my request assigned to them did particularly well. It's so weird seeing loathe be NICE. Let alone being Santa, the embodiment of goodness.

Now I feel guilty that I'm STILL not done.

Hiya, Just wanted to pop in to say that the artwork displayed so far is very nice. I'm hoping I've seen them all: I keep hitting refresh, but every now and then one will pop up that I hadn't seen. Looking forward to seeing the rest when they're finished! I probably ought've participated in this, but I can't pretend to have enough talent for you folks.. and I forgot. Ah well.

I was actually hoping you’d participate, Pitch. Ah well. Maybe next time, if we do something like this again. o.o Anyway, can't stay for long, but to everyone still working (myself included), let’s try finishing up as soon as possible. Don’t forget, we’re not looking for perfection here, so just try to polish off what you’ve got and send it in. I’ll push back the time that all the images will be posted slightly; let’s say, tomorrow evening. If everyone could complete their piece by then, that would be great. Not that much of an extension, I know, but to an degree, this was supposed to be a rushed effort anyway. We'll accept stuff after that, but I'd still like to get up as many entries as possible all at once. It's the home stretch people, so let's go out with style!

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever legitimately met any deadline I’ve set for myself in my life. There was one time a few years back I think may have passed, but the exact circumstances escape me now. I’m not putting much stock in it. In any case, all entries I’ve received thus far are now posted in their full glory in the thread’s second post. Apologies for the delay; the day was busier than anticipated. Anyway, the hour is late, so I’ll try to keep my final thoughts on this whole shebang short and sweet. And if that can’t be accomplished through willpower alone... well then, the sleep deprivation should do the trick. >_> Bottom line: I am pleased. I am very pleased. Frightfully pleased. It’s been said before, but the turnout for this event has been beyond all expectations. Especially considering what was being asked of all us participants, I think. Because this wasn’t a matter of simply drawing a picture. Oh, no no. This was a challenge. People were challenged not just to create a finished product, but to make a conscious effort to expand their breadth as an artist. They were challenged to improvise their piece in the paltry span of a single week, using a technique they have little or no experience with. They were challenged to read through that novelette I wrote back in the first post, and to actually comprehend the guidelines through my rambling. Because of these barriers among others, I was skeptical about how much interest there would be in something like this. But to my delight, these challenges were not only accepted (with quite a bit of enthusiasm, I might add), but were met with the utmost grace and even, in several cases, punctuality. The amount of interest shown, be it from participants or spectators, was just remarkable, as was the amount of diversity in the finished pieces. With that, I am pleased. But more than that, I was also pleased to see that many participants had actually walked away from the event feeling that they had gained something. Many people expressed their satisfaction with the whole thing, either here or over PM. For that, I am happy. Basically, I see this as an absolute success. People had fun, people learned things, and, with any luck, people have been inspired to continue trying new things on their own in the future. Not to mention, we’ve got a bunch of new fanart to show off now. So, to everyone who participated, thought about participating, made an attempt but could not meet the deadline, observed with interest, hosted the images on their site, or what have you, I say thanks. There’s probably more that could be said, but this is a wordy enough way of saying “It’s been fun” as it is, I think. And Fab, I hope that everything has panned out to your satisfaction as well. Anywho, we’re not exactly done yet. Anyone who still has stuff out there, feel free to send them in within a reasonable span of time, and it’ll go up with the rest. And as for everything that is already up, I said when this started out that it would be nice if everyone could offer a couple of thoughts on the finished pieces that might help the artists improve, and I still encourage everyone to give it a shot, assuming you’ve all sufficiently recovered from the 25th to do so. And for everyone with a finished product, feel free to explain what you were going for with your piece or where you yourself think you succeeded/failed if you like. And of course, the commenting isn’t open to just participants; anyone who has any thoughts, please feel free to jump in whenever you like. I’ll try offering my comments later. Too late right now. And as for my piece... eh, I’ll get to that one later as well. Though I warn you all now: it’s a tad big. o.o EDIT: TheJorsh's image came in, and has been added to the second post.

Results From Dragge, to Aim: Tron as a nunFrom Inclover, to Dashe: The Bonnes, seven years laterFrom Petey, to Mirak: Megaman and Roll lovey dovey From GSG, to Fab: Dark, atmospheric reaverbotsFrom Blues, to Musashi: Ness fighting the BonnesFrom Fab, to Petey: CozyFrom Dashe, to Jorsh: Tron and ServbotsFrom Mr. Ninja, to Emeltee: Point blankFrom Emeltee, to Heat (Beware, big file): Action! From Jorsh, to GSG: Maria's Daughter with the foxOh my. That is more than a handful of art there, mlt. I'm not sure it's humanly possible to go through each of them with detailed critique and thoughtful comments. Well... Let's at least try. Megaman and Roll lovey dovey There is nothing sweeter than sharing. I really liked this one. And it's a style I'd personally like to see more of in vector art (That is vectored, right?).
Dark, atmospheric reaverbots There's a great deal of accuracy in this. You really got those segmented bodies down to a tee. I was drawing this one for my PMD game the other day and it looked... off. But this is great.
Cozy At first I thought this one was for me, because it more than fits the description of my request. Glad it came out this way. As I said before, it's fun seeing characters in roles you can't believe are even possible.
Tron and Servbots rofl, I'm not even sure what's goin' on here. I love it, though. Those Servbots are the happiest and evilest little things I've ever seen.
Action! OH MY GOD. That is epic. And I don't use that word loosely, like most people. Very good sequential art. This one should not be passed up!
Maria's Daughter with the fox Very cute. Although I think you might have done better if you had added a bit more pressure in your pencil work. Still very sweet. ;DSorry I didn't go through every single one. Each of you did great. NOW IF ONLY THERE WERE PLENTY OF COMMENTS TO ACCOMPANY THIS ABUNDANT WEALTH OF FANART.

Now if only the commenting on the works would turn out as successfully as the event itself... I guess I’ll jump in first and see if I can break the silence.
Explanation of My Own Image As most of you probably know, I was assigned to do an image for Petey, whose request was simply “cozy”. I had a hard time figuring out what to do for this. The image of a warm fire instantly came to mind and stayed with me, but other than that I was stuck for awhile as I shuffled through various ideas.
Something else that I wanted to do, and to which I felt cozy was well-suited, was actually make a Christmassy image, even though that wasn’t one of the requirements. Maybe the Caskets or Bonnes sitting beside a fireplace staring at their Christmas tree? Eh, no, I thought it would be more fun to work with characters that aren’t so commonly drawn.
One other thing which I figured I ought to take into consideration was, of course, who the gift was intended to go to... Petey, I’ve seen you around and I have it in my head that you’re a good and likeable member, but I must confess we’ve had little if any interaction and I had to look through your recent posts to see if you were a fan of any particular characters. Sorry!
Anyhow, I then decided Glyde would be the way to go. So, maybe have the Birdbots cozily asleep around the fire while Glyde played Santa? Hm, Gyde’s a bit skinny for the part, but maybe... Yes, Loath! A big, fat Santa if ever there was one!
Don’t think I didn’t pause to think it over. Anything involving Loath is creepy, and of course there’s the unlikelihood that Loath would ever be willing to get in that costume, but I thought of a number of circumstances in which he might be willing or forced to, and so went ahead with it. In the end, I fear I failed to make it adequately cozy, simply because Santa Loath steals the show from the sleeping Birdbots and the fire’s glow. It was too late to turn back by that point though. Sorry again!
And there you have it, for better or worse. If you’re wondering what my unusual technique/challenge to myself was, it was in the shading approach. I always give a base color and apply various shading and shine layers to my art. For this one, I started everything off dark and added only highlights using Photoshop’s Dodge Tool.
Now to move onto my comments on the others which have come in so far. I’ll go in the order which mltmlt has them listed in the second post.
From Dragge, to AimMan ‘Tis crayon-drawn, yes? Not the easiest medium to work with. I do wish the scan job had been clearer. There are several areas where improvement can be made, the most noticeable in particular being the perspective and human anatomy, though these also happen to be some of the most difficult aspects of drawings which all artists face.
What I do really like about this picture is that it’s got a lot of attention to detail in the background, and the whole thing is colored. It’s easy to get lazy with coloring and look for shortcuts when working on paper instead of a computer.
From Inclover, to Dashe Now this is wild, and very unique (at least in the Legends fan art world). An interesting style and well executed. My first thought when I saw it and my lingering thought as I now look it over again, is that Bon is absent (unless I’m missing him somewhere in the abstractness of it). I suppose he may have been left out for the simple fact that no one knows as of yet whether he’s a robot or a child who would in fact grow up in seven years, but still, I would have preferred a guess be taken and the artist’s interpretation of an older Bon included than not.
From Petey, to Mirak Roll and Trigger in a very different than usual style, which is a plus when we’re trying to each to something different than our usual style, yes? Smooth and well done artistically. On a personal note, I’m not a believer in a Trigger+Roll romantic relationship, so I like how the lovey-dovey-ness wasn’t blatant. XD
I’m running out of time just now, so I’ll get around to the rest later…
Edit: Oh good, Inclover and I were writing at the same time. Yeah, more comments people!
