I suppose I should post my bases here like I said I would a while ago. I'd just assumed you all know'd because their expressions and poses were unaltered. But here we go. Yeah, I didn't crop the area around my sprites well enough so these don't line up right, but you get the idea. Trigger + Tron. ...just realized that the angle of Tron's foot is wrong... <.< Ridiculously cute, chibi-ish Yuna and Sera. Needless to say, the bases aren't my work... I figured Tron's black... thing she wears might be a more rubbery texture, and her pants as well, but I never thought of her pink shirt thingy to be a non fabric texture, just for the way it sits on her in most artwork. I always figured the fact that it doesn't move was just due to the fact that the Legends graphics were cruddy 3D - not that I don't like them, but they were subpar. But I made her shiny out of spite because people complained about contrast with the last one, and I really didn't see the problem. ...I do now though. And I guess I see what you mean about it not counting because she wasn't in her shell, but still, it was a fictitious concept so yeah. Oh hey, btw, is anyone here a sprite ripper? Because I'm in need of one to rip sprites from a game I'm playing right now [Lunar Legend] that I think would work as great bases. If anyone can help, I'll do a request for you - and maybe not keep putting it off LOL.Found 'em. Nevermind. Maybe I'll do a special request if ya point me to some more cool sheets to use as bases. Of course, I'll still do DASH related requests for anyone.
Yeah, definitely not my best, but I tried to make a Yuna emoticon... it's kinda hard to do a good Yuna emoticon because of her pigtails... they get cut off at the bottom... See? So yeah, that's my Yuna emoticon and I'm about as happy as I can be with it. It turned out really well, despite the kinda awkwardness of the pigtails. Yeah, maybe Yuna isn't the best person to make emoticons of, but I could use that emoticon to make a sprite! In fact, I did!Yeah, the sprite kinda sucks, but it's full custom work! Maybe I'll try to improve it later...
Hey, whaddya know, the Yuna emoticon did suck as much as I thought it did. Aaaanyway... wah!! What's happening!? I've been chibified!! ...and evidently been dyed blue! O.O ...yeah, whatever, here img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/Pitch_EXE/chibipitch.jpg15 minute drawing done entirely in blue cerulean crayon. Hadta be shrunk to fit in my photobucket. I actually thought it turned out good, but of course scanning it highlights every little mistake... so yeah. I'd like to sincerely apologize for triple posting in this thread. Mods can like subtract a bazillion posts from my post count if you want to.

I redid that thing in pencil, and tried a couple other chibis(me facing diagonally, and a chibi of my RPG character) but I'm not posting it because I can't get my scanner to work. Maybe if I feel like it later I'll fix it and post it, but yeah. Glad one person likes it.

How cute! I can’t say that it looks anything like you, but it definitely looks good. Try one in pencil or pen next time though. Crayon is a little hard to make out.
You know, maybe all of these low-resolution art forms are your strength. You say that you can’t draw, but his one looks fine, and you make excellent sprites. I have a theory. Maybe you can draw well if you just draw really small. o.o
Also, just a thought, but your custom jobs seem to be mostly simple front views. You are to good to be confined to such an angle. You should expand! Try some dynamic poses, put in multiple characters, add more detail and color! Make entire sprite scenes! The possibilities for full-customs are endless. Not that they aren't good now, but improvement is the key to greatness. Think of it. Instead of using other sprites as bases, people will be using YOURS as bases. I can smell it now...

I've done a few chibis in pencil since I posted that, but I can't get 'em up for a while(see my post above yours). The crayon one was kinda a joke. I was looking at a guide for chibi drawing, and I couldn't find anything but a crayon, so I just gave it a shot. It didn't look so bad so yeah I posted it. And simplistic, small things are more than likely my forte. In spriting, while I'm not really even that good at it, I can change like every aspect of the sprite with a few clicks(pixels are easy to work with). Chibis require minimal shading and detail, which is probably why that one doesn't suck as much as the other few pictures I drew and posted here. And I'm not that good of a spriter when it comes to scratch spriting. I tried my hand at isometrics and whatnot when FH brought it up a while ago, but you don't see any of that here and that's because it was a total flop. Most of the custom sprites, were only meant to be simplistic frontal views, like the ones I made Buddy Icons out of, anyway. Maybe if I ever get some free time I'll try again, but for now they'll have to do. I have a somewhat isometric chibi done, that maybe I'll post if I can get my stupid scanner to work.
Yeah, I got my scanner to work. Not gunna waste your guys's time with another chibified me... well maybe I'll get the one I did in pencil up, but none of the others. I did a little chibi scene thing that I think you all might enjoy. So, here ya go. Click ;D Oh wait, I am in that one... V.2 is on its way. EDIT: V.2 is practically done! ;D Just gotta throw in a few more things and I'll post it up! You'll LOVE it, I promise! ...that doesn't mean I wouldn't like some comments on this one though.EDIT: Yeah, I thought of something new to add to V.2 so it's going to take a while longer than I thought. You'll love it even more though! ...and I'd still like comments on this one. EDIT: v2 is done! Not posting it till someone says something though...
Whatever, here's v2. lol I know I'm impatient, but whatever. I like it too much, so yeah. img158.imageshack.us/img158/9343/scgdmmlchibis0iy.png

Yay! Color ;D!!! And CG-ness! It's so...chibi!
Though I still think Mega Man should forget Tron and Roll and go out with Ira. What did you do v2 with? Photoshop, Jasc, or some other program I haven't heard of?

Umm... Well I traced over my pictures in Paint(the curvy line tool pwns), threw it in Paint Shop Pro 7, and magic wand + paint bucketed it like crazy. I actually did every character separately(but didn't bother to do any shading because I was feeling lazy), then threw 'em all together in Paint Shop Pro... then decided to throw Data and a Servbot into the mix just for phun. And of course it all started on paper. lol ;D Yay! Someone likes it! (*just realized I forgot to color in Roll's neck... *)

Paint? Those lines looked anti-aliased. Could've sworn they'd been done in Paint Shop Pro or something. To get smooth, curvy, anti-aliased lines, you should use Paint Shop Pro--It's what I used the three times I tried to CG. Plus, coloring them in and stuff is a lot easier using layers.

If the lines look anything better than pixelated, it's probably because the image is shrunk down considerably. I had trouble figuring stuff like that out in Paint Shop Pro, so I didn't bother. Plus, having just solid black lines made it easier to get ridda all the junk in the background.
I could've used layers to shade if I really wanted to. I did use layers to put the background, Trigger, Tron and Roll, and Servbot and Data. I'm probably going to shade all the characters sooner or later, but this was a sort of rushed work.

Striking coloring job. I love what you did with the clouds and sun. They almost look truly as if you colored it on with pastel. I use an older version of Photoshop myself. And don’t worry about all of this layer talk. Layers rarely help me on smaller pictures. One like this could be easily done on one layer with careful utilization of the magic wand. But on paint... I could never do anything on that darn thing. Kudos to you. I was going to mock Roll’s neck, but you got there first. Rats. o.o In any case, since you are going back to school soon, I doubt you’ll have much time for sprite jobs and art. Either way, I’ll be looking forward to seeing more of your work and watching as you improve.

I'm still wondering how the clouds and sun turned out like that, myself actually. Mayhaps it was the noise effect, but I swear that was only on the grass... Maybe I had some texture applied to the paintbrush or something, but yeah, I like how it turned out too. I've tried to use layers for shading before, and to be honest with ya, I just don't get it. I'm much rather work with just one layer for shading. I didn't do anything in Paint, but trace over the lines. Lot more helpful than all that fancy stuff Paint Shop Pro'll do with the lines and make you have to adjust tolerance when using the magic wand tool. ... of course I could do all my pictures on plain white paper. but how would that be any phun? Yeah, school will more than likely get in the way of my already lazy sprite jobs and stuff.. I'll probably have time to doodle a few chibis during classes though. I dunno about spriting though(which I feel bad about because I'm sposed to be handling some really old requests). But yeah, I'll try to get some stuff done despite the massive lack of freetime(-5 hours for needing to go to sleep early(btw, "early" for me is midnight, lol), -8 hours for school(10 if you count mornings and transportation to and from), -2 hours for homework(if I ever actually do it... maybe I'm exaggerating)... and thanks!!11 ;D (V3 coming soon eventually. lol I'm gunna shade all the chibis(I've gotten better at that), and maybe try a better background. man I have no idea where all this came from... days ago I was pretty sucky at drawing... now I'm drawing okay, and I've gotten a lot better at CGing and stuff... shewt. o.o)
Am I getting better? Well I came here to ask y'all whatchya think of this chibi that I attempted at shading. I didn't use layers to shade, but I did separate all the base colors, then just shaded 'em in their own layer. So yeah, here's one chibi. img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/Pitch_EXE/ccgdtron.png

Hehe thanks. ^^; I still feel uber lazy though. Ya really don't realize how little work actually goes into 'em. But yeah, I'm glad ya like 'em. ;D
Mini-update: I've finished shading Roll. Not gunna post her up yet though. Prolly just gunna wait till I'm done with all of 'em. However, I did finish shading me from that same picture, and figured I'd post it up because it can stand with or without the other characters. So yeah, here img.photobucket.com/albums/v127/Pitch_EXE/ccgdpitch.pngI'm really happy with it.

Fine fine, I’ll respond. It’s not like the thread will just disappear before I get to it. I’m not that powerful, unfortunately.
Considering you did that in paint, it is very good, particularly the coloring on the hair. You seem to have the basics of CGing down, although you should utilize the brushes and selective options in Photoshop or PSP for better results. It also looks like your hand was a little shaky, although I really can’t tell. If you’re not going to use the gradient brushes, I’d also suggest less contrast, since such a sudden transition between hues can make the picture seem blocky in appearance. Just some observations/suggestions from a fellow novice. Aside from that, the lighting, etc. all looks very good. Keep working at it.

Eh.. actually did do this one in Paint Shop Pro. Again, nothing but the outline was done in paint. ...uhh... as for my hand being shaky, it definitely was with Tron, but this latest one I thought was much better. I used lines and stuff. ...and too much contrast? Shewt, I can't win with you people can I? It's either too little or too much. I thought I used decent contrast on this one. I know I probably should be more detailed in all this stuff, but I was really going for something simplistic and cartoony-ish. lol imperfection is beautiful.. XD p.s. Sorry about like begging for comments, but I've posted this shtuff on like 5 or 6 different forums and collectively two people had said something about it... <.<
