Hey guys! Dig it: looks like the next Legends 3 event is all about creating townspeople. Head over to Capcom Unity and check out the news! ... Or just read about it here. Or both. Do both. So, it looks like we won't be able to actually design these townspeople, which is a bit of a shame really. (For a minute I thought this might be a way we could get ourselves into the actual game — not only would that have been cool, but it would be another eerily accurate prediction from Dashe. :18: IMO, it's close enough for me.) But it still sounds like it has great potential for phun, and it gives me very little concern that the fans might ruin the game with it. (which is always nice) Anyway, here's Kinako's basic summary of the gist of this event: I don't know how well this will lend itself to another Legends Station collaboration. Maybe it's best to go solo with this one. But it sure sounds neat. Tiny and trivial, sure, but it was those tiny trivial things that really made Legends shine, after all. Pretty cool, if you ask me. Not much information posted about it yet, but there should be more to follow as soon as the Bonne Mech event is over and done. Incidentally, jgonzo mentions that the voting period for the Bonne Mech event is indeed going to be extended; I wonder if this will have any negative impact on the timeframes for this new event. I hope not. But yeah... EDIT: Ah, how silly of me. Kinako also says that this event is set to begin on December 7, 2010. So look forward to that! (the fact that this is the day after our Bonne Mech voting period was supposed to end has me concerned, but only a little) And, in addition to that, Kinako is apparently going to begin her own segment called Kinako's Daily Report. Nothing terribly interesting up there yet either, but it's a nice introduction and description, at least. Hopefully that will be something interesting to follow. And she says she'll try to respond to comments and questions, so that's nice. EDIT: Oh hey, apparently there's another entry for that already. It's nothing terribly interesting either, but still. Nifty. ... and that's all I've got for now.

very, very cool, i hope they update what all the npc's say as the game progresses, that was a big part of MML for me, and im very glad there will still be side quests. and thinking about it, im starting to like all this community stuff, it kind of feels right with MML

Huh, it looks like this one's a two-part contest. One to develop a personality and another to write the dialogue...but how would those both work independently of each other? Wouldn't a character's personality influence their dialogue?

I think for the dialog you don't get to actually see the character, they just give you a topic to write a line about. I'm pretty sure the dialog writing and the character personalities/descriptions are completely separate from one another. You can do either, or both, but not for the same character/etc.
That or it's just really confusingly worded, and we should wait for some clarification when they reveal more information in about five days. I half suspect we're not getting the whole story right now — I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe, they will let us actually design some NPCs. Whether our characters would be able to get into the game is a whole other thing all together, but that would just be phun to submit I think.

I'm interested to see how this unfolds. Seeing the highlighted "names" in the description could potentially mean that these NPC's will be relevant to the plot, and could give some insight to a soon-to-be revealed storyline.
Hmm, I wonder where my Glasses went off to?

An illustration acting-as-caricature for each of the NPCs should really speak for the characters themselves. Either way, I am psyched for this great opportunity to practice our Caption Contest skills, and this will also generate some much-needed traffic for the Devroom outside of the Bonne Mecha event.

Did you just say the Devroom needs more traffic? :-\

Productive traffic, I meant. Actually, yeah, I don't want more traffic without a good reason--people aren't just going to start discussing ideas about the actual game, more so about trying their darnedest to get recognition and a nice submission in. My main issue with the Devroom isn't the traffic, but the lack of activity and traffic in areas other than the main events. That should be expected, of course, but I seem to be putting my best effort into topics like Reaverbot concepts, enemy AI, ruin design--overall, very interesting topics. No one responds. Frick.
I understand that the Bonne Mecha is a huge event for all of us, but it's getting monotonous at this point.

I'm more concerned about there not being enough productive traffic right here. We're drowning in a sea of one-liners these days... :06:
But, naturally, the only real thing that matters at the devroom boards is the events. Otherwise, they're just another forum on the internet. It's great if they get a lot of traffic to show Capcom that there's great interest in this game, but that's really not that important. (When the activity, or lack thereof, at the Devroom threatens the release of MegaMan Legends 3 outside Japan, we'll talk.) It's just the natural way of things, really, and it would be the same on just about any forum.
As for being ignored, all I can say is it happens to everyone.
EDIT: You could try your topics here too. I might give 'em a look and reply. My account on Unity exists solely for participating in the events. I can't sit through ten minutes of reading actual threads there.

Yeah, Specific, you do know we can all talk about that stuff here, right?

Yes Mister Specific, we could use some good progressive threads over here, heck you could even copypasta it to the 'What makes a good ruin' topic.

As for teaming up on this, we definitely need more information from Capcom before making any clear-cut decisions on that. If we do all wind up going solo, it's probably a good idea to bounce ideas off of each other here and proofread, edit, and offer suggestions to improve each other's characters (like pointing out cliches, inconsistencies, and refining the submissions). It'd be really awesome if all of us went over to submit with potential A-list entries that have been through a couple of rounds of peer editing, and since we're all fairly comfortable with each other we ought to be able to offer constructive and honest critique to really make sure we're all putting our best foot forward with this. Besides, completely isolating yourself in any creative endeavor is usually a bad idea, despite the way the media presents a lot of artists. Where the heck is aarond, anyway? He'd be awesome at this. His OCs are A-listers already. And for some reason, Kinako's Daily Report is reminding me somewhat of that "The Morning Report" song from the Lion King musical.

I'm not low enough that I will copypasta my other threads here, seeing as HalcyonDays, one of the guys who responds to my threads the most, is pretty much never over here anymore. I'll see what I can think of down the line.
