Word around Facebook is that the Mega Man Zero series is getting a Comcept spinoff, too. Inafune and Inticreates are joining forces all over again to produce Azure Striker Gunvolt. That Keiji Inafune sure loves hamming it up for the ole' webcam, eh? I've never made it very far in a Zero game, so I'm gonna have to take my facebook friends' words for it when they say there seem to be a ton of gameplay similarities in there.
It's supposedly available this summer on the 3DS eShop, but I have no clue if he means Japan-only or not. Maybe if we all bug him enough there'd be a worldwide release or something.

I'm only able to make a few connections here and there between this and MegaMan Zero, but I'm seeing more similarities to other games. Most notably this "Daytona" character. His way of spreading shots all over the place to fill nearly the entire screen instantly reminded me of pretty much every boss from the Touhou series.

The general consensus, twelve hours later, is that it's going to wind up with a North American release (which would explain the subtitles), and it's probably closer to ZX than Zero, since the Zero series is one of the few that actually ended. I've also never played the ZX games, so that part's anyone's call. Protodude picked it up almost immediately and also seems to believe it's going to see the light of day in the west. TMMN's covering it too. I'm actually glad Inafune and his merry band of developers aren't just jumping straight into a Legends knockoff, to the surprise of probably everyone in the fandom with a pulse. We've been waiting this long, why not sit it out until Inafune gets enough money to really put his heart (and wallet) into its production? I'm sure Inafune would want such a spiritual successor to perform as financially well as humanly possible. Either way, the more moves Inafune makes with these Mega Man expies, and the more sales he makes with them, I'd think he'd have Capcom crapping themselves over it all. He's game-developing them into a corner here. I sure know who I'm betting on.

This is interesting. It does seem to have gained some inspiration from the Zero series, especially Gunvolt himself. The sprites looks quite familiar...
The storyline seems a bit weird, but maybe it's just me expecting more reploids, and less psychic abilities.
This does give me hope that there'll be more Mega Man-inspired games from Comcept. The more they release, the more Capcom will suffer I hope.

Well, we've got Not Mega Man and Not Mega Man Zero/ZX now. That leaves Battle Network/Star Force and Legends to be given the Not treatment. Maybe one day!
As for this game, I really do like the sprite art they're using. It's a style that has been going out of style due to the amount of time you have to invest to create decent ones, but it's nice to see the old guard still trying to keep it around. Also, Azure Striker being a play on Blue Bomber is kind of funny to me.

Story-wise, it's pretty much like ZX. Gameplay-wise, it is the same thing as Zero/ZX. I'm not making comparisons with Zero because everybody knows that Zero and ZX are very close in every aspect.
Heck, I noticed several screens with those malicious spikes. And if I had to guess they are one-hit kill. Megaman-styled games are famous for that aspect in all of their games.
I really dig the design, the artstyle... not so sure about the story but meh. I suppose I shouldn't complain about it.
Also I just noticed how there is a Shitennou/Big Four... ah nevermind they are five. Inti Creates, you had a chance there and you had to add a 5th... XD

You can't really judge a story when you've only seen the trailer. Trailers can make any story seem lamer than they really are.

That's why I said that I shouldn't complain about it when I wrote about the story. Since I am a person who takes the plot and the main story seriously it is a big matter to me after all. But yea. I suppose it was rather harsh of me to say that so soon.

I have a feeling the story will be better once we have the game in hand and have a better understanding of it. Because I can't say that "You're a robot bashing other robots' faces in." appealed to me. Well, at first.
I wouldn't mind a Not-Battle Network/Starforce game. But until then, I will happily wait for this Not-MMZ game.

I heard the Zero and ZX games had pretty decent story to 'em, I just completely lack the skills necessary to get to that part. With Legends, I also completely lacked the skills, but there was just something to that game that made me want to persistently hack away at it for months just to see what happened next. Zero and ZX didn't have that initial hook, which for me, was "trio of likable, over the top pirates."

Oh, wow. Gunvolt really reminds me of Cloud Strife during the drag scene in FFVII. ...And he's taking down a... powerful corporation that's providing the world with "peace" and "stability" through usage of questionable resources. I'm starting to notice a pattern here... That being said, the game looks sweet and buttery smooth. Like a hybrid of Mega Man and certain Metroidvanias.

Mega Man stories are usually just there anyway outside of the Legends stuff. I love the fast-paced gameplay the more I watch that trailer. It looks like the hero is charging up his abilities from defeating enemies, but it's not like it's fact or anything. Just speculation. Yeah, I can't wait for this game. Good thing the 3DS is packed right now with content for me.

Do $20 digital games actually sell? The most I've ever paid for anything that was digital only has been two bucks. It's supposed to drop in Japan on August 20th, so I'm gonna guess we won't see it until mid-September.

Oh, definitely. Digital distribution for most mainstream games shaves off maybe ten or twenty bucks from the standard retail price, but people still buy 'em! Just look at Steam!
