I had a post here but deleted it to make way for the new trailer that puts the game in a better light. This one puts the focus on the female Zero-like robot in Ray. The Vermilion Destroyer TrailerHer gimmick is that she's overpowered but has to keep absorbing Xel/energy to survive. Looks like a fun mode to me, and thank you for being the ones to do this trailer instead of your publisher this time, Comcept. It helps.

Huh So MegaMan Unlimited's Zero, but with health draining constantly rather than with each attack. I can get behind this idea.

No words on it. I knew it was going to be iffy at best, but I had hoped it would not be a total disaster. Looks like our Mega Man fix will have to come from Gunvolt and other sources because this one just isn't going to cut it. 20XX looked nice from what I saw.

I've actually felt hyped for this when it was first announced but I've never really felt too attracted to it, the character designs aren't of my liking, the overall aesthetic looks bad, judging solely on videos. I guess I would have to play it in order to correctly judge it. I usually don't base my judgment on reviews because I love a lot of poor-rated games, MML being one, of course, there's also Sonic Unleashed and FFX-2 which receive general hate from reviewers. So yeah, I will play it and then I will know if it's good or bad.

I can't even run the game. The lag is just too bad on this machine, but from what I could see, the voiceover really sounds like it's targeting four-year-olds and there wasn't any cutscene animation. Just 3D models standing there like statues. No N64 era "this is a person" looping or anything.

Yeah, I've been going back to Mega Man Powered Up on the PSP, and it's amazing how all the characters have facial reactions and damage expressions. This one reminds me of Mega Man X8 (a solid PS2 game), but it's worse in both animation and level design. That's saying something.

As far as I have seen so far, I was honestly expecting something better even after considering that there is only so much one can do with the genre new things-wise.
Also I got TWO codes for Retro Hero (The Ray DLC Steam code was another Retro Hero code). Yay. :/
Edit: Also, "Classic Japanese Side-Scrolling Action" the tagline? Seriously?

Honestly, I'm 4 bosses in, and objectively the game isn't that bad. Granted, my expectations were really low, but there are some things that this game does right. My thoughts so far (PS4 BTW):
Pros:
+ Some of the boss fights are really well thought out (Dyna, Countershade)
+ Level design is decent overall. I really liked the gimmick in Countershade's stage, and Seismic's stage was a good example of "tough but fair"
+ Challenge stages are well made
+ Controls feel tight and responsive
+ So far the weapons all feel useful in their own right. Weapon energy is restored over time or when enemies are absorbed, so there's plenty of incentive to try out your new toys after winning a fight
+ I like the fact that defeated bosses help you out in other stages. It feels like a natural progression of the mechanic in X1.
+ Boss weaknesses are more involved than just "extra damage", often helping out in other ways. Feels closer to MM8 in that regard
+ Haven't noticed any slowdown whatsoever
+ Steve Blum nailed Wolverine Countershade's VA
Cons:
- Presentation still could use a lot of polish
- Music volume seems so unnecessarily low. I can barely hear the main melody half the time, and this is AFTER tweaking the settings
- I still think the 'dash to kill enemies' is whack. For the most part it works fine, but there are situations where it can easily get you killed (i.e. slipping on the ice stage).
- Certain bosses (read: Pyro) could use better tells. When he starts running forward I feel like I'm about to eat a 50/50 ambiguous mixup
- Plot is kinda campy
- Lighting could be better in some instances. Towards the beginning of the Cryo stage, there's a section where the water is so dark that you can barely make any of the platforms out
- There's a frustratingly bad moment in Dyna's stage where you're informed about a movement mechanic for the first time in a situation that results in instant death if you screw it up. You essentially have to position Beck as close as possible to said death trap and dash under it with the precision of a surgeon...twice in a row. If you screw it up, time to redo that section with the lives you have left.
- Spikes don't care about your hit invincibility. It's not uncommon to get bumped by an enemy right into a spike wall...
- You can't change weapons in the pause menu which kinda sucks
- The game suffers from "too many buttons" syndrome. Weapon switching shouldn't take more than a single button press, and the "special action" function feels completely unnecessary.
If I could summarize the game in one sentence: it plays better than it looks. It has its issues, but for a $20 platformer it's fairly decent.

I'll check it out from my local library in a couple of weeks when they get it in. It sounds like there are good ideas with not so good execution here and a major case of the developers being spread too thin on this project. Way too many platforms to get this game out to. It will be interesting to see if the handheld versions come out if they're an improvement or their own take on this style of Not Mega Man.

Okay, so I got it to work, and honestly once you get into the actual jumping and shooting and dashing, I'm actually enjoying myself more than I expected. It's not perfect by far, and Pyro's grammar needs work, but definitely not deserving of torches and pitchforks on sight. I'm not too attached to any of the characters. Dr. White seems to be my favorite, which isn't saying much. I've been messing around with the settings but I can't seem to get the game to simultaneously support my USB controller and allow saving. Either I run it in admin mode to save, or I run it normally to use the controller. So yeah, that's stupid. But it runs, so...better than nothing?

It should come as no surprise who have been following what I've said in the Discord chat that I have enjoyed playing it to the end in both campaigns. It may have its flaws, but I can't help but love the game for what it is. Perhaps because my standards are lower than the imperialistic "hardcore" gamers, or the fact that it's about robots and was made by Inafune. Either way, Countershade is my favorite thus far. Something about a camouflaged sniper strikes me as fascinating. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be camouflaged myself, as to avoid those ready to use their torches and pitchforks on me for this confession.

I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. I saw the game on steam and it's really cheap. I just don't know if my computer can handle it because it doesn't have a graphics card. It doesn't look like it needs a lot of resources but if it has framerate problems on console I don't think it will be able to run it properly.

I've tried it out now myself and after remapping the dash button to L1, I took care of Countershade (#8) and Pyrogen (#1).
Countershade's level is basically a seek-and-find level that is several rooms long that eventually loops around. It's okay, but there's an instant kill traps in there the more you find Shade and no checkpoints until you've taken care of that "game" to get to the eventual boss fight.
Pyrogen relies a lot more on instant kill traps in spots, mostly near the end with falling pipes. I chose to chicken out and hang back rather than go for a high score, and my poor rank taunted me. Oh well.
