Name: Arukoitan & OrudakoitanHP: Arukoitan: 480 Orudakoitan: 448 Location: Kattelox/Variable
Overview
Welcome to the latest installment of Rate that Reaver! This review features the dynamic duo, Arukoitan & Orudakoitan!
Arukoitan and Orudakoitan are rather unique in how they function. Found all over Kattelox, these reaverbots work in tandem, with the Arukoitan doing the offensive work and the Orudakoitan doing the navigating, much like a digger and spotter. This connection is made evident by the large antennae on their heads, which is used to transmit signals between the two. Additionally, if more than one set of these reaverbots is present in the same room, their eyes will glow a specific color, making it easy to tell which reaverbot is controlling which. If the Orudakoitan is destroyed, the Arukoitan is rendered useless, and will stand motionless awaiting a command that it will never receive.
Arukoitan's offense if fairly basic, only shooting a fireball when lined up with an intruder. Aurkoitan is a very agile reaverbot however, and is very adept at avoiding attacks. Orudakoitan has no method of defending itself normally, but there is a variation of them that does not control another reaverbot, yet has the capability to shoot fireballs. It is worth noting that an Arukoitan that is destroyed while its fellow Orudakoitan is alive yields more zenny than taking the 'easy way out' and destroying the Orudakoitan first.
Dealing With It
There are two ways to destroy these reaverbots, and the method you choose depends on how much zenny you want. Going after the Arukoitan first yields more zenny, but you do have to deal with a very mobile opponent that can be irritating to take down early on in the game. Arukoitan moves very fast and will shoot back, so having a fast weapon works wonders here. The Machine Buster is ideal as you can fire with it while moving, and your regular buster works fine as well. You can also snipe at it with something strong like the Powered Buster so that you can take it down before it spots you and starts moving. Because there is only one variation of Arukoitan in the game, they become much easier to take down as you progress, and with an upgraded buster/weapon they go down rather easily.
Of course, it goes without saying that taking the Orudakoitan down first is much simpler, but this comes at the cost of a much lower zenny output.
As for the fireball-shooting variation of the Orudakoitan, they are best dealt with at a distance. They can only fire in straight directions, so if your positioning is good you shouldn't take any damage.
Coming In For A Landing
The Arukoitan and Orudakoitan were a very creative concept. Not only was the idea of a reaverbot modeling the digger/spotter relationship interesting, I also liked that the zenny output being variable gave the player incentive to fight the Arukoitan the 'hard way'. The only real downside is that there was no stronger variation of these later on in the game. After a certain point they just aren't really a threat anymore, which diminshes the effect of their gimmick. This pair of reaverbots gets an 9.5/10 from me!

Are you kidding? You rated these lower than the immensely overrated Golbesh? These guys get a 10/10 from me just because of the dichotomy between them. They're probably my #1 favorite Reaverbots because of the concept alone.

They're probably my #1 favorite Reaverbots because of the concept alone. I teetered between 8.5 and 9.5 for these guys, probably could have gone with 9.5 to be honest. Giving it a second look I'll bump up the score since the one downside I gave these guys was really minor. The 9 that Golbesh got was a mix of both versions, the MML2 version was really solid while the MML1 version wasn't as great.

I really like the design and concept behind these guys, but the little spazzes are maddening early on.

Certainly one of my favorites, easily the most energetic of the reavers! I love that if you destroy Orudakoitan then the other stops! Very original for this PS1 game! I personal just kill Arukoitan and not even bother with the other because of the low zenny amount, how long it takes to kill it, and the fact that it's more fun when it moves! I'd give these guys a 9/10, if the Orudakoitan were more worth it I'd give it 10.

These Reaverbots still hold itself as being one of my top Reaverbots from the entire legends series. I'm not sure if this is because my favorite game out of the series is the first one but too me all of the Reaverbots in MML1 just have more novelty to them than they did in all of the other games. The very close relative Reaverbot in Mega Man Legends 2 was a huge disappointment for me. With how they bumped up the Sharukurusu's in Legends 2 to be VERY dangerous, it would have been very exciting to see how they could've made this duo a much more feared Reaverbot. Such as a more powerful version that made them stay as a threat as 'Buster Cannon' had mentioned in his opening post in this thread. The Misadventures of Tron Bonne touched slightly on that though. All of the standard rust colored Arukoitans that defended a Gray/Purple Arukoitan. Not only that but also on how no Orudakoitans were in sight at the time of that battle. Though I'm sure a lot of these mysterious designs and uses of the Reaverbots were simply just for placement back in game design. I wish Capcom would really notice how much potential almost every little detail like this has in MML. They really built a gold mine. I'm a huge Mega Man X fan but I'll tell ya if they would just give more to the fans with Legends. It would EASILY take the top on my list of all the Mega Man's.
I would have to give these Reaverbots a 10/10. It would be stupid of me not too considering I'm building a life size prop of one, haha. But even through the mysterious variations we have gotten to see throughout 2 of the 3 main big titles for this series. These Reaverbots have always managed to startle me at times. Like the first one you can find alone in a room once you first enter Kattelox Ruins. When I was 8 years old... Yeah I was on the edge of my seat. Luckily when I opened the door I didn't run all the way out in the room. I quickly ran for it out of the ruins for a bit, haha.

Arukoitan and Orudakoitan are interesting Reaverbots. They are fierce adversaries early on and the refractor reward is pretty good. 10/10 for me.

Pretty overwhelming when you first see the Arukoitan charging at you in the beginning of the game, you definitely panic when their fireball hits you. haha Yes the dynamic of the two together is brilliant and their design definitely has an impact. I give it a 9/10!
