Introduction
Greetings fellow Stationeers! Those of you who have been around long enough surely remember all the good times and brilliant laughs that surrounded the Official Caption Contest from August 2004 to August 2006. It's hard to believe it's been over 4 years since it came to an end, long enough that its successor is long overdue. Well the time has finally come and we're launching it as part of our efforts to celebrate 10 years of waiting for a sequel (and today is 2010/10/10 in case you hadn't noticed).
Rather than just start another CC however I thought it would be fun to try something fresh and different. This new contest was inspired by the humor that surfaced a while back in the Hidoi's Dramatic Joke thread (which I'm too lazy to find and link to just now). I hope it will be a fun, new way to bring the community a little closer together and give us all plenty of hilarity in the process.
How It Works
If you never saw or don't remember the HDJ thread, the idea is simple. Each Sunday evening/night I or some other member of the staff will post a mini-comic consisting of four panels, complete with word bubbles waiting to be filled. All you have to do is fill those bubbles with the funniest or most clever dialogue you can muster. Once you've decided on your entry, send me a PM (marked as an entry in the subject would be nice). Each word or thought bubble will be marked with a letter. Use those letters to let me know what text goes in each specific bubble. Try to keep the text amount proportionate to the size of the bubble; I can change text size some, but huge paragraphs simply won't fit in small bubbles.
At the end of the week I will apply the submitted entries to the actual comics and upload and post all the different versions (meaning you don't need to do any image editing to enter, I'll handle it all). I will also upload the next week's new mini-comic, naturally.
(by the way, we may change this in the future but for now let's have only one entry per person per week)
Voting
I'm unable to commit myself to acting as a judge like I did with the Caption Contest, but I hope we've come up with a new system that will work even better (while allowing me to participate, fancy that!).
After the first week of this contest has run its course, the second week will set the standard where we'll have not only a new comic for people to be working on entries for, but also people posting to vote on their favorites from the previous week's entries.
The entries are all PMed to me in the hopes of keeping them anonymous. When I post them on Sunday night they will be numbered in the order I received them so that no one will know whose is whose. Any submissions made through this thread (instead of by PM) will be disqualified, and mentioning which entry is yours before the week is up will also remove it from the competition. Of course we can't stop anyone from letting their friends know elsewhere which one is theirs, but we'd appreciate it if everyone played fair.
So, choose your favorite and post about it according to its number, preferably with mention on why you like it best. There won't be any polls, we want to see actual opinions from people rather than button clicks from silent observers. Oh, and that also means when the voting is over and everyone can finally see whose is whose, they'll also be able to see if you voted for your own.
Awards
As always, hopefully the fun will be in the participation itself but it wouldn't be a contest if there wasn't something to win. If you're familiar with the little profile awards we have around here, this contest can earn you a new one when you've acquired 40 Points. Points are awarded as followed.
1st Place – 10 Points
2nd Place – 6 Points
3rd Place – 2 Points
Ties split the total number of Points, for example a tie for first place would give both winners 8 Points.
ALSO! There are bonuses for weeks that reach 10 or more entries!

At last we come to the image itself. Best of luck, everyone. Give it your best!
Mini-Comic Images
The majority of the images (like this first one) will likely be composed of spliced screenshots, as they're easy to work with. We do hope to incorporate a wide variety of styles however, using whatever means and media we have as long as it looks good. mltmlt22 has already contributed some lovely hand drawn comics, one of which will be showcased next week. If you're interested in contributing to the image pool we'll be accepting submissions in the near future.
