My October had been awesome! Disgaea D2 and Pokemon X came! I'm having a blast! I'm also trying to draw more and I'm working on poems in my poetry thread. Give it a glance when you have some time if you want!

Okay. Settle in, boys, it's storytime.
*Ahem*QT's making an announcement! Hey, look, it's an IRC! We're all trapped here, in iScribble, Dashe and Chiz won't let us be. He has to make this chatroom, cause that's how forums go, And since the last, two years have gone by... TWO YEARS have gone by?! Uh-oh.
Yeah. My songwriting/parody skills are a bit rusty. As for the IRC, it was okay while it lasted, but it tended to make the forum itself redundant. It was probably for the best that only a handfew of us actually bothered using it.

Really, why doesn't anyone use Questions, Comments, and Complaints to discuss board features and changes anymore? This is the second time I've had to bring that point up. Ignoring QCC when you have a question or comment about the forum itself and using this thread instead makes no sense.
This thread ought to be cited as valid enough reason not to have an IRC. >_>

In the back of my mind, if an IRC were in function...
-User 1 brings up an interesting discussion
-User 2 states "Hey, you should post about this on the forums!"
-User 1 says "Oh, okay!" and a new thread is created.
....Thats just how I would go about it anyway. But I know thats not in the same mindset as everyone else. Plus making it a regular habit and all....possibly a chore. Not sure.

Well, the way it goes now, we have:
-User 1 brings up an interesting discussion
-Dashe states "Hey, you should post about this in a real thread!"
-User 1 ignores Dashe. No new thread is created. Unless it's created by Dashe, or whoever it is that Dashe is trying to coerce to make more threads this week.
Knowing this userbase, nobody would post in ANY threads anymore if we had an IRC.

Thats...kindof my annoyance, really. I feel more comfortable speaking in real time chat at points, and yet, the problem stated is a thing. Because not everyone functions the same way in ideals.
This is why I look forward to iScribble sessions, in all honesty. I guess it just barely reaches the fine line where it doesn't take away from the forum activity too much.

I'm just the type that can't be arsed to make something worthwhile. Seriously, writing an actual thread is a big deal. It requires forethought, thoroughness, explanation of goals, formatting, an idea I can actually talk at length about, and oh, it has to be related to something other people can talk about too.
I'm much better at non-sequiturs.
I mean if I posted half the things I wanted to post as threads, 90% of this forum's database would become unrelated to MML in any way at all, and only 10% remaining would be relevant to uh... anyone here. And of course the fact that no one else ever posts either hardly, there's not much real incentive to try engaging anyone.
My three best thread ideas are already on here and haven't had hardly any of the outcome I'd hoped for. No one's even looked at my idea to stimulate fan participation. (If you don't know what I mean, you're just proving my point) I don't really want to admit it, but I have no reason to post anything, because I know I'll only get about 5 replies if I'm lucky.

I myself are really nitpicky on thread creations too. Just because its a topic idea, doesn't automatically means it makes for a good thread. Case in point with my last created thread...not many model kit builders here, so that nose dived quicker than a crashing flutter.
Granted, I do try to think up MML related topics, but I've outputted as many as I can for now- and for a while. Not my fault or anyone elses who's within the same matter, given the slowness of new things for the series right now.
Overal I could come up with alot of stuff- but it would mostly be nonsense and conceptual ramblings...something I can pull out on chat or PM's, but not organized enough for a proper thread. This thread being a big exception.

Hey, just because other people don't post in a thread doesn't mean it's a failure. In fact, if you've posted a thread at all, I'd consider it a success even if it gets no hits. Because it actually got posted. Someone took initiative to start a conversation, and I like seeing people take that kind of initiative.
If you're really uncomfortable with starting things, just shoot out ideas in other people's threads. Even if they're lousy ones. Even if they're full of Mary Sues. It takes a community to make a community, you know? I mean, look at my posts. Most of 'em are admittedly rubbish. I've written a blatant self-insert knockoff of someone else's self-insert. I've posted things like, "I don't really understand this topic, but I like that you're doing something, keep it up." And know what? It still sounds marginally smarter than a lot of the stuff you see elsewhere online.
A lot of that is probably because I've done it over 5,000 times, but hey, practice makes perfect. It's also pretty funny reading my old 2004 posts in Alec Baldwin's voice.

I pretty much do this. If I have something unique to say, I say it. If I have little to say that has little worth to it, I don't say anything (Or give a post a "Like" for approval). It's my way of respect.
I am admittedly uncomfortable with starting threads sometimes, so you're correct on that point too. I do try to push through when possible though. I'm sure many others here would say the same (As if they haven't already, right?).
As you're pretty much saying: Communication is key to any community, and in keeping it alive...even if the replies are "lousy".

You also have to recognize that this board is only but so active. You can create an amazing thread, but due to our activity levels you'll only get a handful of replies. I can definitely sympathize, though. There were times when I was making those weapon/boss/Reaverbot reviews where I'd post a thread and wonder, "Is anyone even reading these things?" I guess there's always that doubt in the back of your mind, but the fact that you actually went out of your way to post it counts for something, like Dashe said. @ ZEROreviveYeah, I know what you mean with having an idea for a potential thread, but it feels incomplete and it's more of a concept that would work better as a chat topic, or a Tweet even. I tend to get those more than complete ideas I could use for an actual thread.
