I like dogs, at least the more friendly breeds like Labs. They're fun to have around. I really wish there were a Terraformer mod that'd allow you to do that. Then I'd be Jack Donaghy switching between slick smarminess and shoving down emotions and pretending everything is fine. signavatar.com/With this you can have as many avs as you want on rotation. Yeah, but I'm talking about being able to use something like this avatar of Jack Donaghy when I'm talking normally and then switch in, on purpose, a different avatar of Jack Donaghy when I'm trying to yell at someone on the verge of a permaban. And then switch in a third of Jack Donaghy licking corn on the cob for when I feel like messing with people. It'd ideally lock down, meaning the thread could actually alternate Donaghys based on the tone of my post and have them stick. This thing just looks like a random rotator.

Oh, you're thinking something along the lines of games where the characters' mugshots change depending on what's happening. Not really sure how you'd apply that to a message board setting, though, since your avatar stays the same for all of your posts. Only way you could do that is if you could link a separate avatar for every post you make.

Yeah. Maybe someday someone'll create a forum framework that'll allow for that. I bet roleplayers would seriously eat that sort of thing up.

Only way you could do that is if you could link a separate avatar for every post you make. technically there's no reason it couldn't work on a message board... After all, a message board is just a collection of data blobs (actual technical term) stored in a database, like mysql or similar... if you had direct access to the forum code (which in this case is unlikely, being from a third party host, but in theory anyway) you could just add variable or something in one of the storage fields... (for instance you could add a # sign after a person's screen name, to denote that they're using the "angry" setting, which on the User end would just be a checkbox or something) However, allowing a third party script to handle your avatar swapping.... that's harder... that would require a text sniffer to read the page for a keyword in a specific place... which may not even be possible to do through an image loader co-routine... (which is what a random swap avatar does... a PHP script is loaded as a redirect from the "image" URL, and that script subsequently injects a randomly chosen image instead of the one the browser was "expecting" (( the expected image, of course, never existed anyway, since it was a script)) So there you have it, answers to questions you never asked!

So after doing some research, it looks like having a different avatar per post was actually possible in V4. Said code doesn't have a variation for V5 yet, as far as I can tell. I just wonder how that would actually play out in practice.

is the code open source for this site? I give no guarantees, but I'd be willing to look over the code to see if I could port over that v4 hack.

Huh. I didn't know v4 of Proboards did the plugin thing.

V4 and below didn't have plugins, back then you had to insert code into the headers and/or footers of your boards.

Especially if just 1 code broke, and you had to dig through EVERY placed coding in header and footer to figure out the cause. Glad to hear thats done away with. EDIT: Forgot to mention, I'd be interested in this code too...regular habit of doing this sort of avatar swap according to mood thing on Skype. I can see it being nifty here.

well... if all else fails, we could always just add an avatar host and make a thread to allow people to submit new ones. It might be interesting for RP possibilities if we had a massive array of characters with different moods... Oh, and in other news, I wrote an importer for FF8 models...

I blind the Vishanti. I shred the shade of the Seraphim, and scatter them. I put the moons of Munnopor to the torch.
I have constructed this ediface in the name of Dread Rorkannu, ruler of the Dank Dimension. BEHOLD!

I really like the Ultimate Armor D-Arts figure, mainly because it shows a detail that doesn't show up too well on the in-game sprites: The transparent, crystal-like design of the armor. To see it brought to life, showing off some of the subtle mechanical details in X's design, that brings out some joy from my decrepit, blackened heart.
