Rocket Raccoon only came into prominence in the last few years, so I wouldn't expect a lapsed comics fan to be familiar with him. Hawkeye, on the other hand, has been a perennial Avengers member since the 60s, so I should think anyone with some Marvel reading under their belt would be familiar with him. Maybe yor mom just lapsed on the name and would recognize him if she saw him, or maybe Marvel super-hero comics weren't the kind of comics she read in the first place.
Hawkeye was also just in the Thor movie, so he's probably due for some more name recognition.
Either way, lesser-known Marvel characters being featured in a game like this is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Gets fans interested in characters that deserve the recognition. Rocket and Nova are mainly "cosmic level" characters at the moment, which means they're out having galaxy-shattering adventures in outer-space, which sounds awesome, and is, but a lot of readers ignore it because they know all the real important stuff happens on earth, mainly in New York City. The cosmic level stories are so far separated from the the main storylines and big crossover events that fans on a budget know they can skip it, it won't be important. That's a problem because it results in a lot of comic fans buying just the stuff that "matters", not necessarily what's good.
So that's why I support Nova and Rocket Raccoon in this.

I'm kind of really disappointed at Capcom for doing a disk based update of a game they released almost half a year ago. I mean, they could've just done DLC for it. I'm sure it would've cost them less to release it as dlc than actually putting the content on disks. I don't want to buy something that's practically the same game twice. Phoenix Wright would be my only reason to buy it anyways.

Oh, that explains why my mom doesn't know Rocket. Spider Man was always her #1 favorite, but I'm pretty sure she's not picky between Marvel and DC and other stuff (though most of her stash is pretty old. I doubt she'd let me sell it though.) I'm not sure if Spidey's an avenger or not, though, because I'm not the one who reads comics. Hawkeye's omission was probably a memory lapse, because I know she knows who Thor is. Thor's an avenger too, right?

It doesn't really matter. The Marvel universe has always done enough cross-promoting between books that if you follow one super-hero for a long enough time, ( especially Spider-Man), you'd have a passing familiarity with almost every other character they publish.

I was disappointed with the "beta version" and this doesn't look much better. SSBB and MK 2011 are examples of how fighting genre have changed and Capcom is simply too lazy to keep up.
MvC3 should have been able to stand up to these games, but content wise those two (and other fighters like the SC series) show that it's nothing more than the simplest features possible. People say Vs games don't need a story, Sora Ltd. begs to differ, The Subspace is exactly the same type of single player story that MvC3 needed. Maybe not with the plat-formers and map, but just some acutal story.
Fighting games can no longer have an excuse for not having decent content and playability that can make them worth playing more than five months later.

The MvC series has always had a lack of story...did you really expect that to change with 3, or even UMvC3? Fact is, Capcom knows that people will play their fighters and enjoy the hell out of them, hence why their fighters are the top "hype" games for gaming tournaments. Mortal Kombat 2011 didn't seem too amazing to me, but I was never a fan of the earlier games anyway. SSBB...well, how often do you hear about some amazing news about it from gaming tournaments, outside of hearing things from AllisBrawl 'n such. SSBB may be different, but most speculate that Brawl is actually the worst Smash in the series. Personally, after playing Brawl for many many years, then getting into Smash 64...I would rather be playing Melee. Regardless of that, I still have my problems with MvC3 and probably UMvC3 (won't be able to truly tell until I've gotten to play it). MvC3 is nothing but over-the-top action with the flashiest of flashy...stuff. Even when you get into competitive play, the game boils down to who lands their ridiculous and repetitive combo first. There is, however, a slight dynamic in competitive play. You know the point is to know your combos and land them by any means necessary. But when faced with an opponent of equal or greater skill, the game does become slightly interesting. At that point, it boils down to reading your opponent and taking note of any mistakes or bad habits they make. My point being, is that every fighting game has this...but MvC3 is unique in the fact that it's basically an all-out attack kind of game, with very little defensive measure. That's why I can't stand the game. Many of you probably played Tatsunoko vs Capcom...and if you didn't, then I'll tell you about the gameplay. Imagine MvC3, but way more simplistic. To me, MvC3 is nothing but TvC 2.0. So, definitely in that regard, Capcom are a bunch of lazy f***-bags. Also, Trigger definitely deserved to be in MvC3, rather than TvC.

I'm MAJORLY mad about this, this... This sign of the times.
Let's see what's wrong with this.
Strike one: Discontinuing DLC in favor of selling the exact same game with a few changes.
Strike two: Adding NO Megaman material besides a re-skin of Kattelox island.
Strike three: Making a re-release of a fighting game period! Seriously, you make a game optimally the first time, then you move on to other games, like say, third person shooters or 2d platformer shooters. (Bitter? Whatever gave you that idea?)
The saddest part is that people are going to buy into this plot hook, line, and sinker. Capcom is going to just keep doing this.

I am disappointed in Capcom's excuse for not adding MegaMan to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom3.
Capcom says it is because MegaMan was not high enough in the official polls. But that is a complete lie, since MegaMan X was actually NUMBER 1 in all of the official polls worldwide!

MegaMan X was actually NUMBER 1 in all of the official polls worldwide! From what I've heard, that poll wasn't actually official. It was just a highly publicized fan poll. (I think someone at MegaMan Network mentioned this in their podcast.)

For the record, Niitsuma wanted 58 characters total in UMvC3, but the higher-ups wanted the game by the holiday season, so he had to cut it to only 50. Either the final 8 characters will be DLC, or Capcom will take a look at the suggestion box and consider holding the game off so Niitsuma can put the last few characters in (Megaman was in the final pool).

But Capcom still used MegaMan X not being high enough in the "polls" as an excuse... They were referring to the internal polls within Capcom (which is what I was referring to above). Megaman made it to the final pool but was ultimately rejected due to character limits.

Or Capcom might make Nitsuma add the other 8 characters in another retail version of the game.

Internal polls? What's that all about? Are they polling the executives, the devs, or a select group of beta testers?

With our luck, probably the Excecutives.
"Oh hay, I like dis racoon guy. He's funny looking, the kids would love to play as him! Megaman? I don't like him, therefore, he's not popular."
