They certainly revised him alright. Made all of his joints a lot more... noticeable. Meh. I'm slightly dissapointed with those revisions, but I'm just glad it's over?.
Sometimes the art looks nothing like the in-game product, so we'll just have to wait and really see.

The joints doe look odd in some places, below the waist and above the ankles- It makes make look more like like a robot and a little less human. For the arms and knees, though, I have no real problem- they invoke a steampunk alteration on a traditional suit of armor, which works well, in my opinion.
Nitpicks aside, I am pleased that D won won the poll. The helmet looks a bit more streamlined, but let's hope it still offers the same protection his old helmets had.

He looks so angry compared with all of the other concept art. Either way, I'm glad his crotch is protected. That giant mess of negative space was really awkward.
And it may just be Google Translate being weird, but I think Yuji mentioned something about Barrett getting a redesign for the final game, but I'm not sure. Google Translate is weird.

Indeed Google Translate is weird. There was that one about someone commenting about Trigger having bulging chest hair, and apparently now there is a "director of safety from the machine translation" at Capcom. But any way here it is for those who want to read it before Greg translates it.

そんなわけで、バレットのデザインは現在のものから大きく変更される予定です! さて、一時はどうなるかと思いましたが、締め切りギリギリでなんとかコレだというものができ、無事ディレクターらのOKも戴きました。 日米の開発室会員さんは、現在1万人以上いらっしゃいますが、そんなに大勢のみなさんから具体的な意見やツッコミを受けるなんて、なかなか無い体験です。もちろん全てを取り入れようとしたわけではなく、耳に入れつつも自分の中で選んで消化していき、ディレクターの「ウラシマンみたいだから変えて」等の謎のオーダーには対応しながら完成に持っていくわけですが、大事なものは何なのか、を常に忘れないように気をつけました。大変でしたが、面白かったです。
以下は細部に関する解説です。長くてめんどくさいので興味のあるコブンさんだけどうぞ!
<色> 前回さすがに渋くし過ぎたので少し戻しました。イラストやゲーム画面においてギラギラし過ぎないところに落としてあります。もちろんロールなど他のキャラクターも同じ調子に調整します。 <精悍さ> 頭身を少しだけ上げ、目を小さくするなど、精悍な印象を与えるよう調整しました。肩幅も拡がっています。また、主線を細くして、ややもったりした印象だった前回までよりスッキリさせました。デザインとは直接関係はありませんが、プレゼンという側面もある以上、大事なところです。 <パンツ> 履かせました!全身をメカテイストでまとめる上でやはり必要だと考えました。 全身のディティールのバランスに注意しながら、更にかっこいいパンツにしてみました。左右の円盤は足の開き方によってある程度動くイメージです。まあ接続部はどうなるねんとも思ったりしますが、ここは現実性よりも、かたちの面白さを優先しました。どう考えても干渉しそうだけど強引に動いてしまいます。アクションフィギュア化を考慮したご意見もいくつかありましたが、あくまで二次的な事柄だと考えます。もしフィギュア化の機会があり、それが可動性の重要なコンセプトの商品であれば、担当の方が上手い解釈とアレンジでなんとかしてくれると信じています。あるといいですね。
<関節> 隠すのではなく逆に大きくして、ボディがメカであることを前向きにアピールしています。ただし色はグレー一色として、煩くならないよう注意しました。
<髪> 昔の設定では、絵を描く上での前髪の房の数は「左右合わせて6本」と決められていたのですが、クセを減らすため今回は拘らないことにしました。クセとは言い方を変えれば特徴でもありますが、この場合はイメージが変わり過ぎない範囲でより受け入れやすいボサボサ頭にできていると思っています。気づいてた人は、鋭い。
<リュック> DASH2のリュックは背面のアクセントであり、またディグアウターっぽさの記号のつもりでしたが(容量のリアリティは無視)、今回は企画マンと相談してステータス異常やライフなどの状態を示すシグナルとしての機能を盛り込みました。更に特殊武器のマウントも用意。まあ実際ゲーム中にデカイ武器がくっついてたらうっとうしいかもしれませんが・・・。

Well I don't have any quirks with this design, I like it. I am however dissapointed by the total lack of flame decals, a mohawk and nose ring. :21:
Though I'm wondering if will get to see his purifier form in this game...
Google translate makes the development process sound so entertaining. ;D

Those joints give off such power, and the color balance is practically perfect now—they brightened the hues of blues! Say that 5 times fast.

I LOVE IT I LOVE IT. They've made so many pointless attempts at downplaying the joints instead of just embracing it like they should have. I'm glad they caved in and just elaborated on the old instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. Joy. ~sigh.Aside from the awesome rough concept, stylistically this looks like shit.

Ooh, the final design's out, eh? Well, overall I like it. Seems the Devs tried to make Trigger look more 'powerful'/'masculine', and the results look good, though the best part is it manages to create that feeling while also looking like a natural evolution of Volnutt's previous MML/MML2 design. (Listmania! Seems like something I've been doing a lot of these days...I have no idea why, but hey, it works, right? : o )- The thicker armor takes some getting used to, but nothing that can't be very quickly overcome.
- Similarly, the mechanical-ish joints are also very different, yet they're very cool looking regardless, so it balances out.
- Did anyone notice that Mega Man's 'waist' is now much more human looking, like designs C/E? It's actually a nice touch, a fine compromise for those who liked that design.
- The helmet looks much slicker; what's interesting is that Rock's hair is now viewable from more angles, thus making full use of that aspect of his design. Very smart on their end.
The overall increase of level of detail (the arms, the front of the foot) Can't wait to see it in-game! ;D
