Here it is, guys, the moment of truth: Ishihara and the art team took Designs B and C, which both had a very close race on either side of the Pacific, and retooled them for a final round of voting. Who will be the victor? Poll results are open on Unity this time. I forsee some gray hairs in the more ardent fanatics' future. The team also touched on the changes made to Roll's outfit for Legends 3, and how they seem to be gearing the visual style for a slightly older audience this time around. Pretty interesting stuff. The results of the previous poll are as follows: JapanDesign B: 48% Design C: 38% Design A: 14% Everyone ElseDesign C: 44% Design B: 41% Design A: 15%

I'm more annoyed at the gray backpack than anything else to do with either design. It just feels... odd. I don't mind that they're going for the more “edgy mecha look,” personally, but you know, I just liked the color orange. Oh, I also don't like that they're calling his Buster gun the Buster Cannon, because we already have had (?) one of those. :37: My thoughts, let's see... For the most part, Design D seems about the same. They changed the crotch a bit. And darkened up the light blues (on both, apparently); combined with the weird gray backpack, I kind of don't like it, but that's a really trivial complaint, so I'll let it go.. The chest armor is a bit different too; actually it looks like they took the chest armor from C. I like it well enough. No crotch armor for design E still, and I'm not complaining. But for those who are, at least they got rid of the butt-plate. Now if Design E wins we'll all get to see Trigger's unarmored ass from behind for most of the game. And they seem to have ditched those odd shoulders all together; I wonder why they did that.. His elbow and knee joints got a bit more complicated, too; it actually looks kind of neat, I think. The chest armor perplexes me; it's just odd the way it's shaped. I honestly don't know which one I prefer at this point, but yeah. Let the Crotch Plate Warz™ begin again. :15: EDIT: I threw my vote at Design E. I like both about the same, but I don't see Design D having any trouble getting votes, so Design E gets mine.

I'm still strongly in favor of the more aesthetically balanced approach they're taking with Design D. E still feels unfinished, with the now-even-more-complete lack of lower torso armor. As for the gray backpack, I kind of felt the same way back when they introduced the orange backpack in Legends 2. I could get used to it--having a more subdued color on it draws less attention to it, since blue and orange contrast so much. While it's never been a problem for me, and while I've never heard about the orange backpack's color distracting people's attention from blasting enemies, it could make it slightly easier on players' eyes when they're trying to focus on blasting bots.
I'm not big on E's chest armor, either, and I do miss the old shoulder attachments from C...I prefer E's sleeker backpack design, but D pretty much takes it for me with every other aspect. The entire torso just looks more finished, and feels more in-touch with the Legends style I've come to know and love. It seems like a more logical evolution for the design to take.
I do like that the poll itself now has only two options, so it really almost is a 'To Crotchplate or Not To Crotchplate?' scenario. They had a lot of really acidic replies against the C option last time primarily revolving around that one missing piece of armor, which makes me wonder if the Dev Team themselves actually want the crotchplateless look to pull ahead in the end.

Design D has better looking armor, a more sense making backpack, and a crotchplate. It's got my vote.

I'm actually kinda liking these this time around. Even E; they got rid of those stupid shoulders and added some joints here and there. The knee/elbow hinges remind me of Russel and Glyde's designs a bit. Cool cool. I especially like the backpacks ( D's in particular). I never liked Volnutt's orange backpack. I always thought it would have been better as a blue or sort of metallic off-black. And they seem to have ditched those odd shoulders all together; I wonder why they did that.. For design C, it seems to me like they just took Volnutt's old ball joint shoulder and hacked away at it, just to show it wasn't a ball-joint. It looked lazy and pointless. That was my biggest gripe with C, not his crotch. Looks awful. E gets my vote this time. (EDIT- Voted D here by mistake. Oh well. Gonna see if I remember my CU password...)

I thought it over for a while- while E had more of an 'traditonal suit of armor' look to it, it seems a little restrictive, which is something you don't need if you're going to run around the ruins and reaverbots.
D had the altered cod piece, which now looks less like a pair of tights, outside that, not much has changed, save for the backback design.
In the end of it, I cast my vote with D.

Hmm, interesting changes, but I'm going with D. I like how they added ribbing to Trigger's torso in E which adds some depth to an otherwise black void. The deletion of the butt plate is also quite welcome. However. I strongly dislike his chest armor on E this time, it looks very bland to me and it is monotone. So now he has a monotone chest and monotone abdomen. For design D, not much has changed, but the wider hips and smaller crotch plate make him look more balanced. In the end I have to go with D, it's just hard to imagine Trigger otherwise. If this was a new megaman franchise I might be more willing to go with E.
Some speculation. I believe that D will win. If I were to guess all votes for A will go to D and I don't foresee huge amounts of B votes going to E or C votes going for D. This would put D in a clean lead. Also, while C won in the English devroom (which also has fewer members) it only did so by 3% while in the Japanes devroom B won by 10%; over 3 times the margin.
At this point in time the vote is a 60/40 D/E split.

Alright, the poll's finally up, and the two new designs...well, D's barely changed from B; the gray backpack is interesting, or really, the color change present in general here is- didn't the Devs say they were trying more for MML1's feel? Taking the orange off the backpack and making Volnutt's armor parts darker seems to go against that philosophy, but other than that there's not much to say about it. Similarly, E also consists of small changes. E's new breastplate, however, feels out-of-style. I'd say that and the half-belt (which now pretty much frames Trigger's butt * D : ) make E seem inferior to C. * Incidental thought: based on that, choice E feels very much like a' fanservice for fangirls' kind of design. *stays away from any possible implications previous statement has*Weird how in Japan, B was more popular than C; it really seemed a design more suited for appeal there, but it's the opposite. The people in Japan who seem to like the C/E 'school of thought' the most is Ishihara: Sounds innocuous and fair on the surface, but it's the subtext that really gives it away here. :22: Also, a lot of C/E voters seem to be bringing up the fact that design C looks like a MMBN desgin as a positive note. Opinions are opinions, but I thought Legends was its own game and not one trying to cop another series' style. A shame a large portion of E voters seem to think along that line... I'm still sticking to my old thoughts on the design philosophies of MML (writing them here would be an exercise in redundantcy; instead you get two links here: :F8: :F9: ) So, a vote for D here.

The chest armor on E is kinda what sold it for me. Really, it's not any weirder than the original design if you compare them. I'm not sure what you mean by monotone, unless you're talking about that tiny grey bit below his underarms which probably aren't going to be showing very much in game. Some nitpicking: The only things I dislike about E are the fingerless glove look, and the back I just noticed looks like he's wearing chaps. I think if they did something with the back of the thighs, and got rid of that blue belt looking thing along his lower back, it wouldn't highlight his ass cheeks so much. Weird how in Japan, B was more popular than C; it really seemed a design more suited for appeal there, but it's the opposite. The people in Japan who seem to like the C/E 'school of thought' the most is Ishihara: Sounds innocuous and fair on the surface, but it's the subtext that really gives it away here. :22: This is why I don't like Ishihara; He really doesn't have Legends in mind and he pretty much admits it.

I'm not sure what you mean by monotone, unless you're talking about that tiny grey bit below his underarms which probably aren't going to be showing very much in game. I can't say I agree on that one. I'm not a huge fan of the way the roundness of the chestplate transitions into the armorless torso. For a design that's supposed to be accentuating the human aspects of Mega Man, the rounder, flattened, monochrome shape feels like it would've benefited from a more subtle taper into his bodysuit. Even though it attempts it, something's off. Something about it just doesn't feel right. The hip joints and the ass-bar seem totally unnecessary--the design would've benefited more if the devs had added a flush-to-the-bodysuit lower torso covering, just for color balance instead of keeping the front completely dark the way they did. D doesn't hide the fact that it's supposed to look much blockier, and by implementing a distinctly less subtle transition, it fits in well with the design. Then again, I am the sort of person who prefers it when game art directors try not to leap the uncanny valley, so having a blockier style more along the lines of the original designs sits well with me.

Ah, I see what you mean. I doesn't "feel" off to me, though. There is roundness in Legend's mechanical designs, and even if it weren't just an attempt to blend into his unnecessarily unarmored middle region, I think it'd look fine along with a pelvis, too.
I wish I could take every aspect I liked about each and mash 'em together. I'm really digging those hinges and the whole chest region. It's just a shame they're not on an otherwise more Legendsy design.

Love design D. No complaints here, couldn’t tell much of a difference on my first glance, besides the added detail to the crotchplate, which doesn’t add, or take anything away from the design imo. But after reading some of the posts here I see the differences on his upper armour. I think the grey backpack fits his overall colour-scheme better than the orange. I always found the orange to be a little random, it stood out too much compared to the blue. but it wasn’t bad or anything.
I kind of gawked at the chest plate when I first looked at design E. It looks very restrictive….? I can’t explain it, it just doesn’t look right to me...like his chest is being pushed down or flattened by the plate. I will admit that I really like the lines on his torso though, and some of the other little details.
I’m not sure how to feel about the back, but the band is better than the buttplate he had before. However, if this design gets chosen, I’m totally going to be looking at Mega Man’s ass all the time and I’m going to enjoy it. But that missing crotchplate...I still wish there was something there. Protect your junk, Mega Man!

I was hoping to avoid this topic before it becomes consumed with Crotch discussion, but a few more thoughts... The main thing about the chest armor in Design E that throws me off is that it doesn't flow with the design like Designs A, B, C and D. In all of the other designs, there's that trunk of the armor that encircles MegaMan's upper torso; this one just kind of juts down in the center and seems a bit awkward. It feels less awkward every time I look at it, though. And the side-view helps making sense of it; I actually like those dark gray segments under the arms. It's an interesting design. For design C, it seems to me like they just took Volnutt's old ball joint shoulder and hacked away at it, just to show it wasn't a ball-joint. It looked lazy and pointless. That was my biggest gripe with C, not his crotch. Looks awful. Yes indeed. I wasn't crazy about those weird shoulders in Design C either, but for a lot of C's supporters that was a key feature. It makes me wonder why they removed it. Personally, if they were gonna ditch the ball-joints, I think they should've just went ahead and overhauled the shoulders completely, because it just came out looking awkward. Anyway, I get that you were not griping about the crotch, but the vast majority of people were are. And on that note... Also, a lot of C/E voters seem to be bringing up the fact that design C looks like a MMBN desgin as a positive note. Opinions are opinions, but I thought Legends was its own game and not one trying to cop another series' style. A shame a large portion of E voters seem to think along that line... Whoa now. What are you talking about? Aside from the armorless crotch, Design E looks nothing like a Battle Network design. Nothing about the arms, the legs or the chest armor looks anything close to something you'd see in Battle Network. Humanoid Battle Network Navis (the less abstract ones) typically have minimal armor covering the arms and legs, limited to mostly shoulders, forearms/hands, and shins/feet; there's chest armor sometimes, but I've never seen anything much like this. The only people who would make such a connection either: a) are fixated only on MegaMan's crotch, b) have never actually played a Battle Network game or looked at anything other than a Battle Network Navi's crotch, or c) both.

Ugh, I still have no clue where they're going with the whole backpack thing, but whatever.
Honestly, I kind of liked B better than D, but I just want this charade to be over with. I vote D.
