I'd be really glad if you'll let me join in on helping out with ideas. The developers were talking about the roof caving in, so it seems unthinkable to have something like that without the classic rocks falling down with their shadows showing where they're going to fall. Also, when I first heard about the drilling, the first thing I thought of was the Servbots' drilling machines from the Misadventures of Tron Bonne drilling through the roof with Tron. I don't think they could be used in this type of situation though with all of the water around unless they can double as submarines. Also, if the machine they're using is destroyed, and they are in the water, they could start splashing around trying to keep above the surface. If they're on the machine, after you hit them, or their weapon explodes, they could fall off and land in the water with the same effect. I believe the Serbots have to look cute in some way just as the robot needs to be BIG. Man, this stuff leaves room for a lot of ideas. If we wanted to go vertical about the fight there could always be spiral stairs so Volnutt can run up while the water and the Bonne mech are rising, depending on how big the Bonne machine is it could also it could also take the room's water inside itself to use it (as a pressurized water attack) and thus lower or up the level of water in the room. And if the room was flooded and there were servbots with little machines in the water you might even be able of using those machines as stepping stones to get around the room in the fight... Wait, do ideas for the battle count too or only ideas for the mech's design itself? @everyone who also talked about shurukurusus: Large invisible shurukurusus with their own AI, you know you'd love 'em. The developers said they wanted ideas on the setting, so i'm guessing ideas on the whole battle. I liked the ideas of pressurized water so far since I was thinking around that area as well. I also like the idea of the water level rising and dropping based on this post.

Damn, Raijin, that's some cool art right there. Love the mech. It's a nice fresh spin on a familiar idea. o__o Very cool.

I'm in, too. Added the second staircase, bigger debris chunks (in case you decide you'd rather shoot close-up instead of sniping), and the wall patterns.

You may want to get on the paintchat right now. Wow! This looks amazing! I like the drill on the bottom for getting through in the first place as well! Also, if that's where the fight first starts, there probably needs to be a place where the treasure is located if you'll want to add that. Since the focus is on the battle though, I don't think that's a detail that needs to be worried about.

Pitch and I were thinking the fight could actually start in the room directly below this one a few nights ago. You'd fight it normally for about five minutes, until the Bonnes blow a water main and the room starts flooding. Megs has to ride the debris on the floor up through the ceiling, following the mech into the flume above it...though it looks like that drill's just hit rock bottom in the drawing. Ah well, there's always room for editing and the like.

Mm-hmm. I was thinking it would be cool if the escape/battle sequence featured some awesome jetskates action: jetting across debris, launching yourself from platform to platform, weaving in between shots from the Bonnes and trying to keep above the water... all the while trying to take any opportunity to fight back. Those stairs would just about do it, except maybe more like, if massive chunks of them were missing, or if they were falling apart in real-time. It might be cool if the Bonnes' mech were able to inflict the zap/paralyze status too, in order to slow you down and keep you from escaping/let them catch up to you; not to mention in order to keep you still so they can pound on you. >=) (Too sadistic? Nah...)

The mech picture's been updated for anyone who isn't refreshing like mad and only got to see the first draft so far.

The pic is updated. Dashe said I should still have the WIP version I posted earlier, so here it is. If the image above still looks like this one, refresh a couple times or empty your cache. The final version has the name on it.

Oy! That looks very similar to my first rough. I was going to clean it up, but the days went by and I started working on other things. My ideas: Wet environment -> Squid. First thing which came to mind. The Bonnes already have the Feldynaut and I didn't want to do something which was too close to that. Maybe it doesn't matter though, it's plausible that Tron would modify her Feldynaut design. I decided to change the head, segment the arms, and color it light purple. Each arm could have some kind of weapon, and the head could pop off like a Wily Saucer. The Servbots ski around on these... water surface robot bugs, and... bug Megaman. To avoid backtracking, and add a little Tron-Roll antagonism, I was thinking that the Boss door is found immediately inside the ruin, but Roll tells Megaman that she can't hack it (it has some puzzle lock). So Megaman has to find a way around, and when he finally enters the boss room using a secret backdoor, voices can be heard outside of the main door. It's Tiesel telling Tron to hurry up with the door. When Tron gets the door open (maybe she cheated), there's some gloating from Tron and jealousy/excuses from Roll. And then there's the boss fight of course, because Tron brought her squid thing.

I have a feeling a Squid or Octopus like design is going to be a very common one. I like your take on it, though Arne. Particularly the Wily saucer bit. Got a chuckle out of that — it would be pretty cool though. Maybe it could be like a specialized Drache. (just a thought) I imagine you've got enough crazy talent to make an entry for this event and win yourself, Arne, but it would be awesome if you wanted to get on-board with us here at Team MMLS. Just putting it out there. Raijin/Miss Dashe-- I said it in the paintchat thread, but I love how you guys finished up that piece. The ruin design looks awesome: the waterfalls, the cool patterns and lights on the walls, the highlights on the mech to match, even.. Turned out awesomely.

(just a thought) From what I've seen over in the Devroom from the guys who've publicly posted their ideas so far, most of them are going for emphasis on the drills. There was a turtle, too, but not very many squidlike bots at the moment, oddly enough. So far it's just been Arne and us. And, for the record, I have seen absolutely nothing involving electricity at all, aside from the zappers on the ends of the pointy tentacles. [/stillinfavorofpimpingoutthatpartofthedesignfurther] And Arne, if you are interested in joining forces with us, I can guarantee this team will have the snazziest uniforms out of everyone. Get out of our heads*! *Actually, it's somewhat reassuring that you've been thinking on similar lines as we have, since you're awesome and all.

So here's the full idea behind last night's Paintchat. I took everyone's ideas from this thread and started drawing it out. In theory, people would start logging on to suggest changes and help out as convenient. As fate would have it, only Dashe appeared to contribute while the night was still young. She did bring in her own ideas (and Pitch's) such as the debris platforms, the second staircase, and most of the background detail. So we still got some real-time collab going on. The grey segment on the bottom is the floatation device, patterned after the boats from Lake Jyun. It would be mostly submerged as the water level rises. In this pic the flume has only begun to pour in and the water is only a couple inches deep. Servbot skimmers would only be deployed once the water filled up a bit more. We'll be sure to depict that in the next pic we do like this. It seems like a lot of people want to emphasize drills on the design, like they interpreted the Devs' description of it crashing through the ceiling to mean it had to be digging through with drills. I'm thinking that ramming a mech through a wall with brute force alone is sufficient. When more people came into the chat they suggested the drill could be on the bottom and I said "sure, whatever", either way I think emphasizing the aquatic aspects of the machine rather than the digging aspect would be best. The name: It's good to have a working title, and of course I'm going to go for the WWII German artillery reference. Seeteufel was a midget sub and the name means "Sea Devil", it really jumped out at me. I chose it relatively quickly though (it was only the second name we seriously considered after "Tintenfisch" meaning "octopus") so suggestions for better names are welcome. Notes on the things everyone suggested: Dashe's electrical zappers are the longer, thinner tentacles with sparking spikes on the end. Specific's pressurized-water cannon is the octopus' mouth. The turrets higher on the head are machine guns, since if Tron's piloting it, it needs to have machine guns. As Rockxas suggested - spiral stairs. As Striker suggested, the big tentacles are wide and long enough to allow Megaman to run up them for close-quarters combat. As Hirovoid suggetsed, falling debris. Servbots could be deployed through the big tentacles. I originally pictured the opening only as big as the Servbot's head, but since everyone feels they should be piloting mini-mechs, the larger opening works fine. Blues did pop in near the end, and BC, Trege, and MLT showed up after the pic was published. Blues had his own ideas (including the Servbot skimmer idea that Arne just posted) which we'll fit in next time. Though we want to try this as a collab, it doesn't necessarily mean we'll be able to combine every idea mentioned here. It's more likely we'll have to cut some things for simplicity's sake. Less is more sometimes, and it will be better to have a cohesive idea to submit rather than a big mess. For instance, one thing suggested near the end last night was Reaverbots to join in the fray. I'm pretty sure this fight will be hectic enough without Reavers. Arne: If you posted this yesterday, I might not have bothered. A lot of us were just waiting for you to show up anyway. I agree that it shouldn't look too Ferdinand-like. Despite the final result, I actually tried to avoid that. I thought that twistier arms, a bigger head with lower eyes, and redistributed weaponry would dispel the illusion, but in the end people still can't help but point out the Ferdinand similarity. Changing the color would likely help, but I've got a thing for the tradition of Tron mechs being reddish in color, and octopi have that hue anyway. We were discussing ways to adjust the color to look more original without straying too far from the Bonnes' style. I guess one thing to keep in mind is that it's not necessarily a Tron mech. It could be like Bruno or Balkon and have its own visual style (and wouldn't need to have machine guns either, for that matter.) The next pic we plan to work on was going to depict a later stage of the battle and from a higher angle to get a look at both spiral staircases and the catwalks between them. There'll also be some Servbot mini-mech presence. Hopefully more people show up a little earlier next time.

I'm not crazy about the drill idea myself. When I first saw the drawing, it never occurred to me that the dealy on the bottom was a drill. When people were posting that, I was like, “Wait, what?” I believe it more as a flotation device; that's what came to mind immediately when I saw it anyway. o__o; (or is the actual drill not pictured here?) I think it's going to be hard to avoid being compared to Ferdinand/Feldynaught. It was the first thing I thought when I saw that posted on the boards. I think it might be best to either abandon the Squid-like design altogether or embrace the similarity, rather than trying to make it seem more original. I love the name too, especially after hearing the description. It fits in with the other mech names very nicely. Very cool. One thing I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around is the need for two spiral staircases. It makes the place look more interesting, sure, but... They couldn't go to the same place, could they? Are there two exits to the flume? (btw, flume?) Does that mean there are to be two possible conclusions to this sequence? Or is my understanding of this just off completely...? Hopefully more people show up a little earlier next time. I'm avoiding paintchat in the interest of actually getting some sleep. >.< I love chatting with you guys, but the all-nighters I think have finally broken me. I'll be happy to bounce ideas off you guys here or over AIM, though.

Two spiral staircases would allow for catwalks to span across the center of the battlefield and allow Megs to snipe at the mech from a higher altitude...and there could very well be two (or more) potential exits. There's nothing that says in stone that this is, without question, the first time you enter this room. Maybe they could destroy the other doors in the fray, or maybe the ruin's got a security system that activates and locks all of the doors when the water main breaks or something. It'd make more sense if I drew it out. Raijin, I'd totally be game for more iScribble later. 8LST sound good to you?
