Lately I've been listening to a lot of Wicked songs(Ya know, the musical ) like Defying gravity, or What is this Feeling, and even Popular... Something about those songs, I dunno what though... Maybe liking Pete Burns and Wicked makes me weird or somethin'. Well, whatever.

Oh gosh, those youtube videos say I have messages from a secret lover, how exciting. Does everyone else have them too? In terms of genres, I used to think Hip Hop was utter shite, but over a relatively short amount of time I've come across some really decent groups - stuff like Why?, Dälek, Deltron 3030, Ugly Duckling, and M.I.A. I still don't listen to much comparatively, but enough that I'd stop making sweeping negative remarks. As far as "listening to stuff I really shouldn't be listening to" goes, I'd have to nominate Jonathan Richman. I mean my god. Jonathan Richman. One of these days he'll be swallowed by his own gushing wholesomeness. In general, I've been obsessing over The Wild Swans for a good few weeks now, although I don't really feel guilty about that. Maybe I should? @ B-R-E-T: I may be wrong, but did I read on your devArt profile page a while back that you liked the Cocteau Twins?

I heard "Kiss Me Deadly" by Reel Big Fish on my friend's Ipod a few days ago.
...can't get it out of my head now.

Hmm, I don't think I've had any recent obsessions with a band. This whole summer I've just left my Zune on shuffle. I am a HUGE metal head, and I listen to metal & hard rock almost exclusivly. Some techno has made it's way into my playlist, but I don't know how that got in there... *shifty eyes*
The last band I really got into was Axxis. It's a speed metal / traditional metal band from germany, with a bit of pop as well. The singer is just amazing, and able to hit such high notes that you think he'd come straight from the 80's... and he did! He also does duets with a very talented young lady who's name I can't remember at the momment, but those are some of their best songs. I'd highly recommend anyone here to find their "Doom of Destiny" and "Time Machine" cd's online.
For the rest of this post, I'll just list some of my favorite bands (in no particular order):
-Crush 40* -Hardline* -Axel Rudi Pell* (all three of these bands have my favorite singer, Johnny Gioeli) -Poweman 5000 -Rob Zombie -Axxis -Magna-Fi -Julien-K -Metallica -All Ends -Iron Maiden -Sebastian Bach / Skid Row -Stone Temple Pilots -Showtaro Morikubo# -High and Mighty Color# -Beat Crusaders# (all three of these bands are japanese, and quite amazing)
Okay, this is admittedly more than I meant to post. Oh well.

Hey, LegendaryEmerald, I was thinking about checking out Hardline and Axel Rudi Pell for just that reason. I was wondering if they match up to Crush 40, especially since they're lacking Jun Senoue. If so, know anywhere where I can get some of their music?
But yeah, right now I'm still listening to They Might Be Giants, namely The Else album, which is fantastic. ...oh and Crush 40 and stuff, since Jun Senoue + Johnny Gioeli = awesomeawesomeawesome(i'm listening to It Doesn't Matter right this second)

Hey, glad to see another Johnny fan! He is simply a god-like singer, and I have almost every single song he has ever sang on in my mp3 player. Crush 40 is what got me into music in the first place, and is a great band to start with. But just so you know, "It Doesn't Matter" isn't a Crush 40 song; it's Jun on guitars, alright, but that it Tony Harnell on vocals. It was only on the "Crush 40" cd to replace one of the instrumental pieces on their original cd release, "Thrill Of the Feel".
If it'd possible, I like Hardline and Axel Rudi Pell MORE than I like Crush 40. Hardline's second album, "II", is amazingly good. Axel Rudi Pell has been consistantly great since Johnny jumped on board the band, and they've recorded songs that are easily twice as epic as the average C40 track.
Finding the albums is the problem. Almost your only choice is to look on eBay or try ordering from Amazon. Hardline just recently released a third album, "Leaving The End Open", which you just might be able to find in stores. Same with the new Axel Rudi Pell 'Best Of...' collection that is soon to be released.
I've only heard one "They Might Be Giants" song, and it's the one that plays during that one Homestar Runner music video. "My Experimental Film", I think it was called. I remember listening to it many times.

I thought the Crush 40 album version of 'It Doesn't Matter' has Johnny for the vocals, huh. I knew that the Sonic Adventure version doesn't, but...
Anyway, that's awesome! I'll try and see if I can find any of their albums for cheap(I have no money at the moment, spent it all on a Dreamcast...).

Edit: THIS SONG IS HORRENDOUSLY CATCHY. I recommend it highly. Just when I thought my taste in music couldn't get any worse...I have been listening to Dream Street for about a day now. The truly sad part is that I thought they were annoying when they were popular.

Powerman 5000 is one of my all-time favorite bands, and they happen to be releasing a new CD in the coming months. As expected, my excitment is through the roof. I've been listening to the two tracks already released almost constantly, and at the same time listening through all of their older CD's once more. Anyways, here's their new single, "Super Villain"! www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz3INbsSRD8

@ B-R-E-T: I may be wrong, but did I read on your devArt profile page a while back that you liked the Cocteau Twins? i7ftrk6Ikiygk yes. LOVE THEM. Along with Amiina, I'd say they're among my favorite dreampop/ethereal wave bands. If I can't bake to it or it doesn't make mah bodeh move all rhythmic like, it's probably not worth listening to. Deltron 3030 is great, found that through The Gorillaz a while ago (which is also good listenin', if a tad overrated). Never heard The Wild Swans, but I can't imagine why you'd feel guilty about listening to them. I'll definitely check those guys out.

B-R-E-T: So, is Cocteau Twins about it for shoegaze, or do you like, say MBV as well?
Have you heard of Deerhunter?
Also, I listened to that RATATAT song. Have you heard of Animal Collective?
---
Anyways, right now, I've been listening to a lot of Wire (mostly the albums "Chairs Missing" and "154").
I really do not like The Clash, but "Spanish Bombs" and "Should I Stay or Should I Go" keeps finding their way into my playlists.
I hadn't listen to them in a while, but I was on a Buzzcocks binge during the last week.
Oh, and I found out about this new band called I Was A Teenage Satan Worshipper, this kind of mellow (but still energetic) like synth-oriented (but with guitars) band.

B-R-E-T: So, is Cocteau Twins about it for shoegaze, or do you like, say MBV as well? Nah, I listen to Slowdive and other stuff. I tried listening to MBV years ago and it just gave me a headache ( which is kind of the opposite of what I was expecting). Not really a fan of Animal Collective, but to each his own. Oh! Y'know what's great? Godspeed You! Black Emperor is great. My bro forced me to listen to Kicking Horse on Broken Hill way back in the day and it turned me onto more prgressive stuff. I recommend Monheim, but if you've got the attention span of a two year old you could just skip to 3:02 where the song picks up. If I ever direct a spaghetti western, this'd be the band I'd want for the BG score. www.myspace.com/mooncakeband Also Mooncake is good.

Nice. That whole album's good. I think I currently have "In Our Angelhood", "Multifoiled" and "Sugar Hiccup" on my PSP, so they'll be the ones I listen to most. Amiina sounds beautiful, I'll look into them. The Gorillaz were a bit hyped (I was one of the many that found "Demon Days" disappointing...) but there were some real gems on that first album. The Spacemonkeyz remix album is great, too. But coming from someone who only picked up the CD in the first place because of the bloody Jamie Hewlett art, it's all good! Have you heard of Deerhunter? Oh, fab. "Cryptograms" is lovely. Anyways, right now, I've been listening to a lot of Wire (mostly the albums "Chairs Missing" and "154"). Praise be, a WIRE fan! "Chairs Missing" is a personal favourite too, along with bits of "It's Beginning To And Back Again". Someone just lent me "154", so I'll have to give that a proper listen. Colin Newman's solo stuff is also worth checking out if you haven't already (and his wife's, for that matter...). In terms of recent flights of fancy, I've been mooning over The The for some time now. :B

I've been listening to a lot of 60's through 80's British rock bands, namely The Kinks, Pink Floyd, and David Bowie.
