Well, in April, I think, I bought a 4 DVD boxset of all the Studio Ghibli movies in Japanese (except The Cat Returns, I believe) with English Subtitles. Thanks to the common sense of Feldi, I learned it was a bootleg @_@, but nontheless, it's still good. Yesterday, I watched On Your Mark, this music video that Studio Ghibli made. It was so good, it could be extended into a feature length film. Even though they didn't have subtitles on it, I could understand the story. Then I watched Spirited Away in Japanese. There were a lot of differences I noticed in the dialogue translations. And I came to a conclusion that the American voice cast was WAY WAY WAY better. Sorry, but it was the truth.
Today, I watched Ocean Waves (or, as they translated it, I can Hear the Ocean) and Grave of the Fireflies. Ocean Waves was really good. I loved the characters and, even though it was subtitled, felt dearly for them. The narrating style looking on the past made it really nice and dramatic. But Grave of the Fireflies is now my favorite Studio Ghibli movie. It was so sad. Depressing even. I can't believe they'd show that to kids.
Tonight, I plan on watching on Pom Poko. Tomorrow I plan on watching Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday.
So, does anyone have anything else to add? I especially wanna discuss Grave of the Fireflies. It was just so good and so sad...
EDIT: Sorry I can't categorize threads @_@. I just think of them as movies.

YOU MISPOSTED! YOU MISPOSTED! I'M GIVING YOU A SPAM WARNING, PHARAOHMAN! YOU DISGRACE THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE MODS!
But on topic, My Neighbor Totoro was one of my early experiences with anime and I LOVE IT. What a great movie. If you haven't seen it yet, go hang yourself, and if you survive, GET THE HECK OUT OF THAT NOOSE AND WATCH THE MOVIE!! Kiki's Delivery Service is also killer, and all these are like, the absolute kiddiest movies, but in a way that the whole family can enjoy. GOSH, I just love those movies.
And people keep giving me a hard time that I haven't seen more Ghibli movies, and I really should anyway, so I'll probably go to Blockbuster and just go on a Ghibli marathon one of these nights.

No idea what Ghibli is... anyone care to e'splain?
Oh, but I've seen that Kiki movie before. It was pretty good in an innocent way. Maybe not really the stuff for me really, but my sister - a year younger than myself - sure loved it. She was Kiki for Halloween last year. ;D I dunno, I thought that it was okay. =/ Certainly not bad.

Ghibli ROCKS!!!! They did Grave of the Fireflys!!?? That is a great film! It is also one of the most depressing ones.
Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, and Spirited Away are great. Heck they all are!

Studio Ghibli is a Japanese movie company that made Kiki's Delievery Service, Spirited Away, Grave of the fireflies, and many more. They've also made the recently released in American theaters "Howl's Moving Castle" (which was AWESOME!!). But I just got finished watching Pom Poko. It was alright but DISGUSTING. The racoons used their testicles (and I bet that's gonna get editted) to beat people up and transform and stuff. Freaky freaky freaky. And it kinda had a forced, blatent message . But yeah, Studio Ghibli rules...

Rock on, Studio Ghibli!! Hail to Master Miyazaki!! ;D ;D ....sorry about that. I just got a little too excited. I remember getting started on SG movies with Castle in the Sky . I was thinking, "WOW, that was spellbinding!. Then after I found Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away , I was hooked. The flims Ghibli made are nothing short of awesome, and it's founding directer, Hayao Miyazaki is a trailblazer. It's amazing how he and Ghibli have cranked out so many good movies and are still going strong after 20 years. According to legend, after My Neighbor Totoro , something interesting happened, the government founded a large area of forest untouched by the urban development, and made it a national preserve, they call it the Totoro Forest. Quite remarkble when something you do has that kind of impact. I remember that in Jaunuary, in honor of Miyazaki's 65th birthday, TMC had a month long marathon of SG's many films, including the rarely seen Only Yesterday . Howl's Moving Castle is a pretty cool one. I especially loved that they had Billy Crystal as the voice of Calcifer. Very funny IMO. Haven't seen Grave of the Fireflies yet, but if can find it, I'll check it out.

About that Hayao Miyazaki celebration on TCM: it was in honor of his birthday which is January 5th... the same day as mine! I thought that was so cool! Anyways, I finally watched Princess Mononoke awhile back and I must say, it was pretty bad @_@. Not only was there no mention to a princess or anyone named Mononoke, but the main character, Ashitaka, was a complete Gary-Stu. Despite that, there is one character whom I absolutely LOVED, Lady Iboshi. She was so non Mary-Sue that it was briliant. I thought that Billy-Bob Thorton was really miscast, but whatever. All of you guys are probably going to start hating me now because Princess Mononoke is liked the hardest of any Ghibli movie. I saw Only Yesterday on that bootleg I bought. It was amazing. It was kinda weird though because a lot of the movie involved periods, which is one of the reasons it was never brought to the United States. I also watched Whisper of the Heart, both subbed and dubbed and I'd have to say the American version is better. The Japanese version kinda explains some of the plot things better (for example, the main character translates a song from English to Japanese, they find this guy's name in all of these library cards, etc.), but since it's a love story, the English version had more emotion and such. BLEH!!!

I found out Miyazaki's son is making a movie based on a series of short books called Tale of Earthsea.

BLEH!!! There is, but only one. When Lady Eboshi tries to convince Ashitaka to join her cause, she brings PM up, though in in truth, it's San. She's rather ruthless, and the fact that she lives among the wolf gods must've had the villagers believe that she's a goddess of ghouls and spirits, who seeks her vengence upon Irontown. That's what I think, anyway.

PM was my least favorite too, so don't worry too much about it. Though I must say that the guy's name was Acrapaka, not Acrapaka. At least I think that's what his name was. EDIT: Never mind. Dang censors. I meant A s h i t a k a. Obviously you meant the exact same thing.

Wow, that's pretty powerful stuff, GotF, I'll have to see it myself sometime. I understand that "eyes unclouded" thing. It's sort of something I try to do. Things have gotten frustrating for me lately so it helps me to calm down when things get rough. I like Pom Poko, especially the "battle" between the red and blue factions, that was so funny I forgot thery were being serious ;D And all those pranks they pulled, like the spooky voices, was pretty good.
