So, I was doing a little fanfic research, and came across this problem. I can't tell whether Glyde and Loath are related or not. I always thought Glyde was the hired thug* type, not the "family business" pirating type. That's what I got from the game, anyway, but the manual kind of threw me off, saying things about the "Loath family." I'd really appreciate any help with this. Opinions, facts, translations of the Japanese manual ( )... Anything! Thanks a bunch! *The thought of Glyde being a thug sort of cracks me up... ;D EDIT 1: Just read the same thing in the MML2 instruction manual. I have no idea what the relation could be, though. Probably an uncle or something. That seems pretty classic. EDIT 2: ...And yet throughout Misadventures of Tron Bonne, he calls Loathe "sir" and and reminds Teisel that he "works for Mr. Loath." So I'm thinking either the family thing was invented by the U.S. manual or they're seriously estranged. I guess it really doesn't matter so much, but it's driving me crazy!

don't forget that in the whole organized crime situation, it usually comes up one of two things, 1)All of the thugs ARE family or 2)the thugs are so close that they feel like family. My guess is that there probably is no real blood relation, just some sort of criminal bond.

I guess I'll post what I think on here to. (I posted what I thought on Gfaqs)
Maybe he calls them family because he doesn't have any "real" family left. Like maybe his real family all died or something and Glyde and the birdbots are the closest things Mr. Loath has to family....but as I said before it was just a thought =P

They could be related, but I'm not positive about. It's been awhile since I played it. After all, many people do have the same last name sometimes.

Ooh, I forgot about this. www.megspace.com/entertainment/fab/megaman/legends/mml2/screens/screen-058.txtSo, Loath is either still in jail at this time, or Glyde is STILL working for him, and he's behind the scenes sponsoring him or something. Confusing. Kind of weird to think of Glyde as still working for/idolizing Loath. I guess he's not as indepent as I thought. Kind of screws up my fanfic too! Anyway, thanks for the feedback! I think this is finally starting to get pieced together together...

Well, I'm not sure if they are still, but maybe they have the same last name. Just because they have the same last name though, doesn't mean they are related. glad to give my answer though ^_~.

There's one thing I should warn everybody about.
EVERY MegaMan manual is supposed to have some error in it somewhere. Like in the MML2 manual, Bon's name is Bomb Bonne. And Glyde has "a bad luck."
Capcom of America doesn't really put much thought into the translations of their manuals. I highly doubt that Glyde is part of the Loath family.
What do I think? I think he's a mercenary hired by Loath. Based upon how Glyde talks to Loath, he doesn't seem to have any relation. "Mr. Loath" and "sir" are the keys to understanding this issue.
It's probably a lot like the mafia. Glyde is treated like family under Loath's godfather-like appearance. That's probably why he has such a funny voice. The godfather himself is sterotyped to have a wheezy kinda voice. Loath has a similar voice actor that makes his voice kinda wheezy.
Anyways, I've played Grand Theft Auto and done some some research on the side. The old mafia treated all of its members like family. Glyde works for Loath, so he's a lot like Loath's main hitman. Only toned down for a MegaMan game.

Personally, I think the relation between Glyde and Loath as family was made up by the fans. I doubt they're family, though.

When they say Glyde is part of the Loath family, they mean "family" like as in "the family"---the mafia.
It's an organized crime thing. You're considered part of the family even if you're not physically related.
Same way the Servbots are considered part of the Bonne family. (sort of)

I believe it's called the "Glyder" if you're talking about the one he uses in this game. I don't think it's named in the game, but certain strategy guides name it as such.
