I was using Isobuster to rip isos of some of my PSX games when I noticed something odd about Mega Man Legends 2. Whereas most PSX discs just have one data track, my copy of Mega Man Legends 2 has two tracks, a data track and an audio track. So I decided to rip the audio track as a wav to see what it was, and it was just three and a half minutes of silence. What's the deal with that?

It's probably not the real audio track. That sounds kinda like what happens if you pop a Playstation disc into a regular CD player. If you want the actual audio track it's all there in a folder marked "XA", I believe. There should be an easy conversion program over at Zophar's Domain.

Yeah, I know. But in this case it was a bona fide audio track (albeit silent) in addition to the data track. I thought it would be kinda like the playable audio track on Monster Rancher, but it wasn't. I dunno, maybe it was just padding?

Have you (or anyone else) searched the 'audio' track for any interpretable data? EDIT: I'm looking at a .cue file from a rip of the disc and it does report an audio track: FILE "IMAGE.img" BINARY TRACK 1 MODE2/2352 INDEX 1 00:00:00 TRACK 2 AUDIO INDEX 0 58:10:17 INDEX 1 58:12:17 EDIT: Doing some math here, 700MB / 80Min = 8.75MB per minute. 8.75MB * 3.5 = 30.6MB, which is curiously close to the size of ZNULL.DAT... EDIT: Checked out ISOBuster - the length of the audio data is exactly that of ZNULL.DAT. (35.3MiB) EDIT: A WAV extraction of this audio track compresses to 36KiB. It is, sadly, just padding. If you want to download the WAV file for yourself, copy & paste this URL into your browser, changing 'hxxp' to 'http'. The archive has no password. Link removed 'cause it died The only thing of interest is a little click just before 2:17 - most like generated by an imperfection on the disc. EDIT: Playing the silent track backwards doesn't result in any hidden messages, satanic or otherwise.

Naa... The audio track is nothing. It happens with other games too (as Questionmark mentioned). I think it's only data (like the first track), but without static. Without the noise, I still think it's bad to play such a file on a CD player...
