(Apologies for creating the thread late. I've been traveling and sick.)

It's time for the annual Secret Santa art exchange. As always, this is strictly for fun, and everyone is invited to participate regardless of their level of artistic skill.

For those who've participated previously, this should all be very familiar.

How It Works

Anyone here or in the Discord server may participate.

1. Declare your intention to participate by providing us with a Legends-related art prompt that is at most five words long.
2. When signups close, you'll randomly receive someone else's prompt via DM.
3. Create a piece of art based on your prompt and DM it to me.
4. On the 25th, we will post everyone's creations up for the world to enjoy.


The Timeline

Note that these are all soft deadlines, and exceptions can be made if you ask.

Dec. 20th - Dec. 24th

Dec. 25th

If you have any questions not addressed here, feel free to ask.

- Do I need to be good at art?
No. This is not a contest, it's about sharing with the community, and no one will be judging you over the quality of your submission. In fact, we encourage people who don't have an art background to participate. We hope you'll consider this to be an opportunity to try something new while making someone else's day a little brighter.

- What kind of art is allowed?
In terms of media, there are no restrictions. For context, we've accepted submissions in the form of ASCII art, live videos, and playable games in the past. There are also no rules against non-visual media such as music or fiction, although this event has traditionally been more focused on visual art.

In terms of subject matter, anything within the scope of the forum rules is permissible. This means no mature content. We don't have a hard and fast definition for this, but ask that you use your judgement. If you're uncertain whether or not something is acceptable, err on the side of keeping it PG-rated. If you have any specific concerns related to subject matter, please let us know.

- Why the five-word prompt?
The goal is to allow each recipient to suggest a direction for the artist without strictly dictating what gets made. Our hope is that this will make the process more enjoyable for everyone involved. The artist will have more creative freedom, and the recipient is more likely to receive something unexpected.

- What should(n't) be in the prompt?
As mentioned above, part of the goal of the prompt is to give the artist more freedom. As such, we ask that you not go out of your way to craft prompts that are too specific. We also ask that you limit your prompt to game canon and not request things like fan characters or crossovers.

- What happens if I can't complete my art?
Don't worry about it. It's a busy time of the year for everyone, and we understand that sometimes plans don't work out. If you happen to be on the other end of this and don't receive something, please try not to take it personally.

Also, although we would like all of the art in by the 25th so that it can all go up together, you are free to submit your work late. We have no reason to reject it, and we're certainly not going to tell you that you can't give someone gift art just because our arbitrary deadline has passed.

The schedule's been slipping later and later every year so I don't blame you. I kind of wish proboards had a scheduled post feature.

Took a little time for me to wrap my head on my assignment, but I'm happy to say the rough sketch is hewn out ahead of schedule.

Results have been added to the first post. Apologies for the delay. I mentioned to a few people (and on Discord) that I wasn't going to be able to put this together until late today, although I didn't expect it to be quite this late. It's not even still the 25th in my timezone, which is usually my out in these scenarios.

wingin: This one's really sweet with Roll and Data on the way. Volnut doesn't look too worried with the cannon fodder reaverbots closing in.

@emeltee: Nice approach to this one- I really like the chamelon net and birtbot armors.. the Bon Drill headis pretty silly... and I can't help but remember that
brief bit in the MMX Manga where Dr. Cain muses over adding buster cannons on X like some kinda frankenstein gunpla. Hilarious.

abethgrimshaw: "Those machines aren't cheap, you know...!" How true that is. Even in the underworld, one needs zenny,these days.

Dragge: This one's pretty cute. Roll's tired after designing more work on the rocket.


Not a bad crop this year. Kinda wish I didn't lose track of my stylus for a while while working on mine.. ^^;

Bluehat got their gift to wingin in, so I've added that to the results album. That means everyone this year was able to get their submissions in, good effort.

I used my piece as an opportunity to try Krita, which I've been meaning to learn. It appears to have all the features I would want but it stutters a lot when doing certain things, which might be a dealbreaker. Need to play with the settings more and see if I can fix that.

@emeltee: Triple cannons...Is Megaman Volnutt a lego minifig? Maybe he can hold five fires same time XD. His birdbot overall is pretty.

I've spent six hours of three nights to finish this painting. At first, I have no idea how to draw "Running Late". So I thought roll driving Flutter to rescue Megaman from a tower ruin, or a Christmas party waiting for her. This painting had feature of both.
I have no Christmas holiday, just a weekend. But I'd like to enjoy the New Year, and the Spring Festival after one month.

wingin : This is very cute and friendly. I never would have thought of a reaverbot hosted Christmas party, but it was definitely the cherry! Good colors and speed blurring.

Santa Melty : Oh this is hilarious. Brings flashes of what MML might have devolved into during the 'crafting craze' that modern games went through. Catch me in my Bon-Helmet-Only run.

abethgrimshaw : Hahaha! Oh Tron as a waitress is definitely unexpected but oh what a pleasant surprise! On that note, is this referencing a certain fanfiction? Thank you for the piece.

ravenf6 : Oh I would have payed money to be able to smack down Glyde himself in the base raid. Glad to see the rules being broken and mayhem fully unleashed!

Dragge : This piece tells a very human story with very few but informative setpieces: the sticky notes, and self encouraging scribble said a lot. The poor girl is determined to work herself ragged!

As for my piece, this was my first full page art piece with backgrounds--so thanks for the motivation y'all. While I did end up submitting it late (what can you do?) I like what I came out with. But I am doubly glad you liked the piece Wingin! Hope you have a better New Year than your Christmas.

bluehat: All these shots bring how just what it is the Master saw in the carbons, and everything Sera blinds herself to. Really drives home a lot is riding on Volnutt winning this battle. Well done.

The fact that you guys have continued to keep this tradition alive to this day is nothing short of astonishing. That kind of commitment is exceedingly rare to see. Nothing short of a round of applause for all the participants, the submissions and the love that went into 'em!
