Secret Santa Art Exchange 2019: Now With 0% More Prizes!
Are you an artist? You should participate in our annual holiday art exchange. Are you not an artist? You should also participate in our annual holiday art exchange! The Short VersionAnyone with an account here or in our Discord server is allowed to enter. 1. Make your intention to participate known by posting here or contacting me directly during the signup period. Please also provide us with a Legends-related art prompt that is at most five words long. 2. When signups close, you'll randomly receive someone else's prompt via DM. 3. Create a piece of art based on your prompt and DM it to me. 4. On the 25th, we will post everyone's creations up for the world to enjoy. The TimelineNote that these are all soft deadlines, and exceptions can be made if you ask. - Signups:Any time through Dec. 19th - Arting:Dec. 19th - Dec. 24th - Results posted:Dec. 25th Frequently Questioned AnswersIf you have any questions not addressed here, feel free to ask. - Do I need to be good at art?No. This is not a contest, it's about sharing with the community, and no one will be judging you over the quality of your submission. In fact, we encourage people who don't have an art background to throw their hat into the ring. This is an excellent opportunity to try something new while making someone else's day a little brighter. - What kind of art is allowed? In terms of media, just about anything will fly. For context, we've accepted such things as ASCII art, live video, and playable games in the past. There are also no rules against non-visual media such as music or fiction, although this event has traditionally been more focused on visual art forms. In terms of subject matter, anything within the scope of the forum rules is permissible. This means no mature content. We don't have a hard and fast definition for this, but ask that you use your judgement. Please also keep the comfort zone of your recipient in mind. If you're uncertain whether or not they would be alright with your gift, err on the side of keeping it PG-rated. If you have any specific concerns related to subject matter, please let us know. - Why the five-word prompt? The goal is to allow each recipient to suggest a direction for the artist without strictly dictating what gets drawn. Our hope is that this will make the process more enjoyable for everyone involved. The artist will have more latitude to experiment, and the recipient is more likely to receive something unexpected. - What should be in the prompt? As mentioned above, part of the goal of limiting the length of the prompt is to give the artist more freedom to interpret it as they like. As such, we ask that you not go out of your way to craft an extremely limiting prompt. We'd also like to keep things strictly canon, and ask that you not request things like fan characters or crossovers. - What happens if I can't complete my art?Don't worry about it. It's a busy time of the year for everyone, and we understand that sometimes plans don't work out. If you happen to be on the other end of this and don't receive something, please try not to take it personally. Also, although we would like all of the art in by the 25th so that it can all go up together, you are free to submit your work late. We have no reason to reject it, and we're certainly not going to tell you that you can't give someone gift art just because our arbitrary deadline has passed. I wasn't up to get into the fray this late but... you know it's tradition and I feel like I want to keep up the combo. I do miss the badges though but I can't ask for what I don't make.
Anyway here's my promt: Super Adventure Rockman DASH

First post is updated. Glad to see there's still some interest despite the late start. I wasn't up to get into the fray this late but... you know it's tradition and I feel like I want to keep up the combo This is my fault and I apologize. In my defense, I did try opening signups on Discord last week, but that turned out to be a bad idea. I think my posts were mostly overlooked. To compensate, the signup period was extended slightly beyond what was originally planned, meaning there's a couple of days less time than normal for actually making art. Thankfully for me I only need the last day. :VI do miss the badges though but I can't ask for what I don't make. Thank you for understanding. We would still like to rework the existing badges at some point, but it's not exactly high priority. OwO

Welp, this will be interesting. While deciding what to give to someone is generally not a problem for me deciding what I want is not my strong suit. I'm generally the type who never asks for anything at all during the holidays, and even if I ever do so, it's usually for some relatively cheap and practical item that sees definite use in the future. The irony - I come up with all these ideas I put towards my gallery and yet I have no idea what kind of art I want made for me. I'm almost always the commissioner, never the commissionee, but, whatever. I'm really in it this year to make something nice for at least one of you folks here on MMLS, but as for myself personally though, it's... Not Worth The Risk

A round of applause for Santa Melty for keeping this going!
Feels weird not being in on it this year, but I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. I'll be around when I can to add the new art to the main site, naturally.

I'm with fAB on all fronts on this. Congrats for getting this going again this year Melty. I kept checking the forums up until the 14th to see if it was going down this year but I didn't want to pressure anyone if it didn't. Figures I would miss entering but I'm still excited to see what comes of it. Merry Christmas everyone!
