So there's one thing that's been on my mind lately. And that is, of course, The Lego Movie. Now this whole concept of Lego being a movie might sound ridiculous to you, but I think the filmmakers ( Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the guys behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the 21 Jump Street film) have really made it work. Here, have a trailer for proof. Still not convinced? Try watching this great 'behind the scenes'-type video. ...And if that doesn't make you laugh even a little bit then I don't know what would. From the perspective of a Lego fan such as myself, it seems the creators are making all the right moves- retaining that trademark Lego humor and including all the essential worlds (like western and space and town plus more)/characters, presented in an interesting story with uniquely appropriate animation. And think about the talent involved, with voices by Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, et. al., and music by DEVO's Mark Mothersbaugh! This is, safe to say, the only movie that's really captured and kept my interest in years. But what do you guys think?

My fellow members weren’t optimistic this thread could be posted in, but I didn’t take “weren’t optimistic this thread could be posted in” for an answer! (Somebody better get this. ) I'm thinking Lego must've been plotting this for years, especially given all the video-game collaborations they've done with multiple IPs; Batman, Star Wars, Indy, LoTR, etc. Now, what I'm REALLY curious about, is if they'll play homage to all the old-school Lego trademarks. Like Lego Island, Lego Racers or even Lego Alpha Team.

Before this Thread is forgotten, just want to say. Good movie overall, great humour, and very enjoyable if you don't mind the ending being a bit weak like certain other films. *cough*ToyStory3*cough*

I saw it on monday, and I liked it- good comedy, the story was unusual, but appropriate, and I found a few endearing moments to it. Emmet turned out to be one of the most oddball characters I've seen in quite some time. In a way , this movie reminded me of an idea I brought up during a discussion of the System- the idea of Perfection and Order contrasting with Chaos and Freedom.
Last saturday, the local toy store were promoting this film, and had a good number of sets at a discount. On top of that was a prize raffle. While I didn't win anything in said raffle, I did get to take home two mini versions of Emmet's car- standard, and flying. I also bought the Metalbeard Duel set (8 bucks off, not bad) .

I saw it yesterday, and I want an obscenely large flamethrower helmet with coffee mugs on it now. Lord Business is the best evil overlord, no doubt about it!

I'm certain that you and Lord Biz would make excellent friends.

If by "friends" you mean bitter archrivals who are constantly threatening to kragle the plastic crap out of each other and pour coffee into each other's hats to sabotage the flamethrowers, then yes. We would make EXCELLENT friends.

The movie came out on dvd/blu ray, last week, so it had me thinking a bit- makes me wonder what thought processes Metalbeard had when he built his ship, the Sea Cow. That ship's almost a steampunk Geselshaft, minus the fact it doesn't fly.
