As I mentioned in another thread, Inafune wasn't going to turn down any beneficial offers from Capcom, should they ask to publish Mighty No. 9. Now, humour me this. What exactly would Inafune classify as "beneficial"? Money clearly isn't the issue. Mighty No. 9 has enough funding to self-publish, and various online distribution websites like Steam would gladly accept it into their stock. Hell, Capcom is a sinking ship in terms of finance. Something Inafune is no doubt aware of. Lastly, Comcept has shown itself to be a competent company, easily capable of standing on its own without Capcom. No, I'd like to believe Inafune is trying to secure something else. Something more dear to our hearts. Perhaps... something to do with the Mega Man IP? I mean, there is absolutely no other reason for Inafune to even consider the idea of working with Capcom. Just something for you folks to discuss and think about.

I'd certainly like to think that's the case. I remember, some time ago, wondering whether the entire devroom itself wasn't just a gambit to see to it that either Legends 3 ended up put on the market, or most of the Mega Man fans out there would see Capcom for the sort of company they really are--the kind of company that forced guys like Kamiya and Inafune to quit and landed Ono in the hospital.
It'd be really epic if MN9 were actually the second stage of that gambit he might've started with the Devroom in the first place. Either way, gambit or otherwise, Inafune definitely has the upper hand in this situation.
I mean, Legends 3 is the guy's dream project. I wouldn't put it past him to do something sneaky to make sure it happens and happens RIGHT. Hell, he sounded more apologetic about it in the MN9 reveal video than anyone at Capcom combined, and I don't even speak Japanese!

It'd be funny if the stretch goals were going to be in the game all along, and in reality Inafune just wanted the extra money to purchase Megaman's IP.

But if Inafune did something that was proving to Capcom that he's a money maker, not because he likes to launch more than 3 versions of the same game but for having creativity and humility. The message for Capcom is that he can bring lots of money to the company if they forget their pride and let him make Megaman games.

There is a song in Wicked about how it's usually either the masses or history book authors who tend to decide who's the good guy and who's the bad guy in situations like this. I'm pretty sure both are firmly entrenched in Inafune's camp right now. He isn't the one who's blatantly ignoring their primary source of income. In fact, he's being downright polite about all this. Kind of like a nicer Mega Man Juno. If this were anyone else it would almost be unsettling.
I wonder if Capcom would even make an offer, though. They seem to have enormous sticks up their asses from where I'm sitting. Either way though, if Capcom doesn't make an offer and goes out of business, Inafune wins anyway. Unless I'm wrong, it'll mean Mega Man'd be for sale. Which could very well be his goal from the start. I don't see any way this situation could work in Capcom's favor.
Oh, how I've missed having something like this to theorize over!
