Hey guys! Here are my sub gate design ideas: no.1: Chizz Island I thought it would be cool to find a ruin nearly disappering in the sand. maybe you have to dig out a key or the entrance itself Edit by EC: Link to image fixedno.2: Buscan Island this sub gate was discovered in a cave by miners. it is surrounded by basalt pillars. the top was destroyed by some diggers who didnt notice it wasn't a basalt pillar(the "eye wasn't glowing yet, it was covered in dust ect..) no.3: Tronne island This gate lies underwater in one of the islands seas. you need to drain the water by opening an ancient dam or something..heres a sketch of how it could look like: no.4: dashe island this one is hidden in a forest. the tree like thing on top of it matches the landmark of the island...it also has the appearance of a stub:) no.5: maybe malt island i wasn't sure about this one. it suddenly came to my mind and because i have no certain idea for a malt island sub gate i gave it the color scheme of the malt island tower... thats it, i really hope you like them.

Entry #1 This sub-gate is shaped like an old tree. The sub-gate itself has energy swirls around its' "branches", two "roots" that go into the ground, and a small spire with a glowing object that emits streams of light in the sky. The surroundings include two dead trees to reflect the sub-gate design and stones leading up to the entrance. Entry #2 The window-like ring around the sub-gate is used to absorb the light that creates the solar emissions coming out of the roof. Entry #3

Okay here we go, time for my last few entries. Buscan Island: At one point the settlers tried building a power plant and when they started digging down they revealed ruins. The power plant has been deserted and remains inoperable. Numerous warning signs surround the area. The red light on the front means it's not safe to go in (the plant itself not the ruins). To be honest Buscan Island reminded me a lot of The Old City and I had heard rumors that the power plant turned into a subgate or that there was a refractor inside or something and decided to give this a whirl. (The white is supposed to represent snow, my airbrush stinks) Tronne Island: This subgate calmly sits far away from the city and is surrounded by a wood fence (it goes all the way around but I was lazy here). It's shows it's age through some deteriorating colors and even one of the lights is broken. Honestly this one baffled me more than Malt Island did then thought of the ranch and thought a fence would be cool. Dashe Island: A hut like structure surrounded by some totem poles (like in Pokte) and sits on a small island. Since it resides in a remote area, the surrounding ivy has grown up onto the poles and gate damaging the structures just a bit. I really tried to fit the feel of the town on the island with somewhat Japanese themes.

The only reason for a double post is because the forums only take 3 file uploads per post. Malt Island: I wasn't sure what to do with this at first until I thought of how the city looks pretty central and has some monuments so I whipped up a cathedral (still useable) . I really hope it isn't too much details. With people explaining some things I kinda wanted to explain how I thought of some of the subgate ideas I created.

Just a skim through the thread tells me we've got some cool entries already, with three days left to go!
Late though it is, Blyka and I have upped the entries per person limit from five to eight. Those of you who may have had to leave out alternative ideas in favor of putting in one design for each island, can now enter them.

Huh. Guess I've only used up half the allocated slots, then. Cool.

here's another idea for a subgate(2 Ideas in one;): An ancient lighthouse subgate maybe there were ancients traveling with ships or giant water reaverbots and for that they needed Lighthouses...i guess:) The people from the island also use the lighthouse for orientation. It stood on a cliff for long time but one day the cliff collapsed and the gate couldn't be reached anymore. Here are some sketches for the lighthouse The idea of a collapsed cliff could also be used with a normal subgate. or the lighthouse could stand on a solid cliff or in a harbor...

I think that if avallon1 's lighthouse sub-gate ends up being chosen, there should be some water down at the bottom to clarify that the chasm used to be filled with water. Just my two cents.

_________ Island:Did you feel ripped off going into the sewer on Kattelox and realizing it was just a little strip of hallway leading back into ruins you've already visited? Were you expecting to find something better down there? Like awesome treasure, or a sub-gate? So yeah, I made a sewer sub-gate. Here's the gist of it: In one of the major cities, the work crew who'd been in charge of digging the sewer system out accidentally stumbled upon an entrance to that island's sub-gate buried underground. Maybe during whatever calamity put that crater in the middle of the ocean, there was some kind of major cave-in that buried the sub-gate entrance Anyway, the crew uncovered this weird door and checked it out, only to find that it was a ridiculously dangerous ruin full of Reaverbots. The mayor of the island had them bar it off to keep people from going inside. Tuttle'd either have to break in using a lever or switch elsewhere in the sewer or get the local authorities to grant him access.
I could see this working for Malt or Tronne, especially. Maybe one of the smaller towns if all of them have developed sewer systems. It's hard to say which ones do just by looking at the concept art.

Alright, two submissions at the last minute. | Submission #1 Image by MLT
This entrance is inspired by MC Escher's Relativity - with platforms and staircases going in various directions along all 3 axes, entrance appears to require a complete disregard for gravity. Ideally in the final version, Tuttle should be able to walk along walls and overhangs to reach the upside-down entrance with a little bit of thought. Alternatively, it's nothing a well placed ladder and a crowbar can't take care of. | | Submission #2 Image by Dashe
This unsettling ruin entrance is covered with clusters of reaverbot eyes. The reaverbot eyes still glow to some degree, look toward the player (as opposed to Tuttle), and occasionally blink. While it looks diseased and unsettling, it's still entirely mechanical and contains no organic parts. |

Ninja entry. I conceived this as the entrance to the network of snake-like ruins partially exposed on the surface of Chizz. Wanted it to look somewhat bestial, so I modeled it after a spider. I realize this may be crossing beyond the scope of what's being asked for here (trying to pull in an idea from the landmark event and such), but I figured I'd give it a try. Greyscale here for lack of time.
