So I dug around for a bit, and I didn't find any search results stating this had been done, and I was actually pretty curious...
How do you see Yuna and Sera? I always considered them sisters at first glance but not so much anymore. I realized recently that they don't really interact much directly, and I don't recall any information stating that they're directly related. Then there's the fact that they're technically androids, and may not have a direct concept of 'family' (whether they have DNA like reploids is unknown too... I assume they do, but that's a long LOOOOOONG, extremely lengthy topic for another ramble another time).
They're always used as opposing forces or concepts, but that doesn't mean they're ay more directly related than the real earth and moon. I think I lean toward cousins or nothing these days.
That's me, but I want to see where the rest of you define it. How are Sera and Yuna related, if at all?

Unrelated because their androids.
They are supposedly created to complement each other but at the same time they are opposite in nature.
But if they were carbons or humans I'll say they would be twin sisters, where Yuna is the good twin and Sera the bad one XP

I'd seen them more as a yin and yang deal. The black and white dresses don't help, either. It's hard to tell if they're the only two Mother Units, but if it were ever confirmed that this is the case, and that there would never be any others created with that designation, then I'd go and say they were sisters. Since, you know, they were (allegedly) the only units in all of Elysium with the "Mother" designation.
Then again, if Mother were a common designation, that'd probably rule out the yin/yang idea too.

I think a lot of people would agree with you though, since Yuna is at best a protagonist and at worst indifferent, while Sera most definietly wants to kill a bunch of really nice people and a few not so nice ones... I'm not dead set on the twins idea really, I used to think that way, but then I considered that it could be like going to an unfamiliar country for the first time, and seeing how all of the people, while still different, have a lot of the same features, and until you get used to them you have a hard time telling the difference between a passing resemblance and a familial one. To give a better example, I don't feel Gatz and Geetz are related in any way, and never did. They are two comepletely separate entities... but they do share a lot of traits. Sera and Yuna might just be harder to tell apart because of how they're modeled. (all the MML girls have the same shaped head for instance). Not arguing, though.

Agreed completely. The thing is sera is the bad girl just because she follows the system, but still she's not bad at all, Yuna gets the role of "the outer space being that comes to save the earth from it's own race" so she's the heroin and the black sheep of her race. It's all about the point of view. The way I see it, Yuna may be constantly making Sera angry.

I'm of the opinion that they were intentionally made by The Master to be twins. Maybe if there were characters that looked similar to them, or (like Dashe said) other Mother Units, then I'd feel differently. But there don't seem to be any. I also assume they were made together, which usually points to being twins, if not siblings. And, if they were made together, one can only assume they were made with the same "ingredients", which in turn points at close relation. And they do seem like yin/yang as well, which I feel was done intentionally. Yin/yang are two sides of the same coin, which also suggests being twins.
So yeah, I'm a firm believer of the twin theory.
