(I had to take out "What's" at the start of the topic title because it wouldn't fit...)
I'm not going to deny it. I created this topic for the sole purpose of talking about the last theater performance I've seen, which finished around an hour ago.
It was: CHICAGO
It was a musical featuring lies, murder, adultery, corruption, deception, jazz and overall extravaganza.
It's about a married girl, Roxie, who has sex with other men because his husband can't comply very well in that department. But his lover was about to leave him, so she kills him with her gun. Then she gets sent to jail and will be on a trial with a penalty of death by hanging, but pays 50 bucks (The musical is set on old times, before major inflation occurred.) to Mama, a godfather-like girl, in order to contact a lawyer who had never lost. Billy Flinn was his name. A rich playboy who didn't care about the victim being guilty or innocent. He only cared for his 5 grand. Thanks to him, Roxie becomes the talk of the city, making her more ambitious and wanting more than just leaving scott-free. That's more than enough for the setting.
All in all the music was fantastic. Every major character represented one (or more) stereotypes, which were displayed vividly on each musical number. Costumes were great, but nothing out of this world. The musical depicted how ironic is the world we live in, and it does this wonderfully.
As you could notice, I barely left any bad comments (if any) about this musical because I'm still hyped. Though the stage was just a bit better than decent at best. I guess it's because the theater was new. I wish I could have seen it in Broadway, but that can't be helped.
Next time, if everything goes correctly, I'll go to see the musical I've been dying to watch for years: "Mamma Mia!". I skipped the movie so it wouldn't spoil the musical. I'll have to research about when and where it is going to be shown next, but I'll go even if I have to travel to another freaking continent!
