We've all seen fab's spiffy page listing the weird and wonderful things that you'll come across exclusively in the MegaMan Legends Beta demo disc. But I (and I'm sure many of you) have stumbled upon some screenshots that differ quite drastically from the ones provided by fab, which would suggest that there is more than one type of demo disc available. Example: Not only is the layout of the health and special weapon gauges significantly different, you'll notice that the Feldinaut bears resemblance to Capcom's prototype version, pictured here. ...And I did have a front view screenshot of the Feldinaut to reinforce that, but I've gone and lost it. Everyone: Well, that's convenient, isn't it? Yes, it is. Do we have a possible Beta Beta demo release here? Thoughts, everyone. Thoughts. From your head.

I'm not one 100% sure, but if those labels are in game and not just added for a screenshot, then this is indeed a VERY early beta. If the testers do not yet know what every meter is for, OR they are testing how each meter reacts then this is very early into the development cycle.
The fact that the labels are in English make me think that they were added later on.
The road layout looks a bit different from the actual one in that screen, which also made me think that this may be an very early beta.
I would say that it was an alpha, but it has all the models and buildings done, so it is apparently not.

I've always been curious about this myself, and also at one point had the screenshot you speak of showing the front of the beta Feldynaught... Unfortunately I can't seem to find it either. For me that was several computers ago, so I don't want to spend anymore time looking for something I can't even be sure I still have. I'm sure it could be found around the web somewhere with enough time and effort. It definitely looks early-early, though somehow I'm doubting there was a demo release of the game this far back. As I recall, the source of the screenshots I've found from this stage in the game were from really old gaming website articles, so they were probably just screens shown in magazines or at game shows. That English text really makes you wonder though... But I suppose there's never been a screen with these health bars shown in Japanese to confirm that they weren't English right from the start. That's quite possible, since there's a lot of English used in Japan.

Wow. You'd think that screen captures from that early on would look a lot uglier, wouldn't you? Then again, I'm no video game programmer. It's interesting to see the weird changes they decide to make - I don't think I can remember seeing that bit of pavement jutt out like that in the final version of the game. Don't hold me on that, though. It makes sense to think that the labels were in English from the start when you consider how much it's used in Japan...but yup, I'd always assumed the labels were in-game. They don't look out of place there. Ah, I hadn't thought of that! That's probably where they're from then. If they screen captures were from a magazine, it would be kicking if we could get hold of it.

What I don't get is how he has the Spread Buster so early on. Two of the parts for that were behind breakable walls, and the other was aquired after doing the Inspector's last subquest mission... o.o
The english labels aren't really that out of place, even in a Japanese game. I've noticed a bit of English usage here or there in the DASH ports(Weapon Names seem to be the same in DASH1, for instance). Nothing to see there.
Oddly enough, I've seen the beta screen with a Feldynaught frontal view, myself, too... Can't say I'd know where to find it, but I think it may've been on IGN at some point.

Ah, thanks, Rage. I knew I remembered seeing them there, I wasn't sure where to look for them, though.
I wanna know what the Ex Gauge would be for. If not for Special Weapons, then I'd wonder what the two Arm Gauges were for.. o.o Sounds interesting.

Maybe the Ex Gauge was for other weapons that weren't on your arm. Also: in one of the screenshots, you can see a lock-on symbol. Maybe, it was originally supposed to be like how the lock-on function acted in MML2, where there's a seeable lock-on target, and you could move around. Oh, and here's the picture of the prototype Feldynaut with eyes, if you're interested:

For example like the Ratchet and Clank games, where the more you use it, the more powerful it gets. If they took a system like that out of the game, I'm going to kick them in the family jewels. Unless they just couldn't fit it in the game. The aiming thing always confused me. I don't see why they didn't keep that in.

I know that it's been a year since anyone posted on this but in the first screen shot it looks like he's running through a small parking lot

Looking at the old screenshots, I'm glad that the developers changed the style. I just can't imagine the best RockMan games ever with that kiddy look.
