I'm on the go more than anything, but running is something I haven't committed to doing since my track and field yesteryears in elementary school. I don't mind posting a general playlist of what I listen to as I'm out.
Current Playlist:
1. Deacon Blues - Steely Dan.
From the 1977 Grammy Award-Winning Album 'Aja', one of my favorite albums of all time. First thing you should know about my musical preference, the artists that tower above all else in my lauded tier of 'Good Taste', are Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, ergo, the songwriting and performing duo of the group Steely Dan.
2. Misunderstood - Incognito.
From the 1996 album 'Beneath The Surface'. I can't pinpoint exactly when this whole 'Acid Jazz' movement from the U.K. happened, but I've gotta say, I'm loving every bit of it! I'll admit, this group's somewhat of an acquired taste, like most of what's on this list.
3. All You Need - Jacksoul.
From the 2009 album 'SOULmate'. Hot diggity! Modern music ahoy! This Canadian soul group is something I discovered during a rather fertile period of my lifetime, so needless to say I'm quite attached to them. Regardless, these guys are so hip, that James Brown, Mr. Please Please Please himself did his last tour ever OPENING with them. Yeah, they're that good. Such a shame the lead singer past away two years ago. Hayden Neale, RIP, you will be missed.
4. Just For You - Sharel Cassity.
From her '08 album of the same name. I saw this young woman performing many moons ago, and I've been infatuated with the sound of her woodwind ever since. (No innuendous asides, please. ) This song has a very 'Boplicity'-esque feel to it, and when a song sounds like Miles himself wrote it, you dun' good in my book.
5. Only A Fool Would Say That - Steely Dan.
From their '72 album 'Can't Buy A Thrill.' This song, methinks, captures the essence of the current war between Anon and the Capitalist Regime-, I mean, the United States Government. I don't want any flame wars sparking, so I'll leave it at that.
6. Shout - Miles Davis.
From the '81 album 'The Man With The Horn. As much as I love the whole 'Birth of The Cool' scene, I didn't take Miles seriously until I listened to the album that practically cemented the fusion genre, which was 'Bitches' Brew'. This album came much later, of course. But at this point, the sound he spent a lifetime crafting was full-fledged. This instrumental is blood-pumping, therefore, it is awesome.
7. Every Little Step I Take - George Duke.
From the '79 album 'Master of The Game'. Dude. He mastered THE GAME. All I can do is lose it. Bonus brownie points there. Also, this guy's the king of Electronic R&B. Seriously. I can listen to this puppy-love song until death, if need be.
8. You Make My Dreams - Hall & Oates.
From the 1980 album 'Voices'. Yeah. I like Hall & Oates, so sue me.
9. Trippin' At The Disco - People Under The Stairs.
From the 2009 album 'Carried Away'. Modern Hip-Hop? Well, it sounds like it was played in an eighties discotheque (yes, they still existed then, do your homework) and furthermore I don't think there's a single being who could not like this song. I dare you to not like it.
10. Something Cool - Jane Monheit.
From the 2008 album 'The Lovers, The Dreamers And Me.' There's something about Alto Jazz singers that makes me more sprung than a coil from Spring Man.
11. Am I Blue - Kevin Conroy (Batman.)
It's Batman. He's singing. It's like dividing by zero. And no, I don't have the full copy, stop asking me... *Grins maliciously*
12. Painted From Memory - Elvis Costello.
From the 1998 album of the same name. I absolutely adore each time Delcan (Elvis Costello) and Burt Bacharach collaborate, because it always ends up being pure gold. The album this piece comes from is without a doubt my absolute favorite.
13. We're Both In Love With A Sexy Lady - Flight of The Conchords.
As a hipster, I knew about Flight of the Conchords before everyone else watched the popular HBO program. Given that, oh, Brit and Jermaine, you never cease to keep me pissing with laughter. This is actually from the second season of the show, so good luck trying to find a copy of it unless you like ripping audio from DVDs.
14. Let's Do It Again - The Brand New Heavies.
From the 2006 album 'Get Used To It'. Another U.K. Acid Jazz group. Gotta love the funk vibe that this piece gives; and the lyrics are nostalgic and inspirational if you've come off a few bad relationships like I have.
15. Summertime - Sex Bob-Omb.
Gotta keep the indie side of my brain sane. So, what better to keep myself caught in a modern rut than with a song from the Scott Pilgrim film?
16. Variety Speak - The Animaniacs.
Yes. I have the OST of EVERY Animaniacs song. But this song is legendary to me, even more than Yakko's world. Because it predicts Rocky Balboa (or Rocky VI!) No joking. The Cinema Snob side of me also grooves well to this one. Huh, lots of WB is popping up on here. I think I'm trolling Disney after the whole High School Musical and Hannah Montana schpeel.
Oh, and my Game Tracks:
The ENTIRE Sonic R OST.
Historic Soldier and The Position Light - Gradius Rebirth.
Inoa Village - Alundra.
The Rockman X Jazz Album by Alph-Lyra.
And too many tracks to list from Xenogears, Chrono Cross, and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3.
