This game just seems to stray to far from what is known about the MML universe.
Its in every gameplay clip we've ever seen. Sure, the game looks great and will be great fun, but does it come at a cost?
The nostalgic effect that this game will produce after years of play will surely not be as strong. It seems they changed too much too fast(although its been many years, I dont suppose fast is the appropriate phrase lol)
Of course, this is all speculation, but that is just my personal opinion on the subject.
Your thoughts?

I think the visual style is largely the same (just high res and more bloom-y) They said any new reaverbots will look more like the ones from MML1 than those from MML2. Overall, not much comes to mind that would make me panic. There's the gang- they're just similar to Jim & friends from MML1 but with more involvement. Too many significant characters? Probably not because I doubt they'll have Glyde/Birdbots/Bola/Claymoore. There's the suit re-design, which happened between MML1 and 2 as well, and can easily have context (made changes to armor while on Elysium).

Honestly, I'm very very excited about MML3, and besides some peculiar choices from the Devs I think it looks good, BUT we have barely seen anything yet really. And this is just the Prototype, we know NOTHING about the main game, so really we're all running on good hopes here.

Dont get me wrong, i will buy the system solely for the game, but there are just a few things I have seen that are sort of... off-putting.
But then again I was put-off by some of the characters in MML2. A game cant cater to EVERY fan I suppose. I once heard a good quote from a friend on the ff7 board. "It would take an army with billions of dollars at its disposal 10 or more years to make FF7(any game in my opinion) cater to every fans need"

Oh trust me, they've done more than enough. Once Barrett's done being a celebrity, hopefully they'll move on after the Prototype Phase. Provided the North American Prototype Phase even gets here. I still can't fathom what the delay could be, and I won't care as soon as it pops up in the eShop.
I'm not worried about the graphics or the nostalgia, I'm worried about how far they've gone with keeping us waiting, and how they still get a kick out of it even now. :15:

You say it strays too far from what's known, but you don't say how so. And that it's in "every gameplay clip we've seen"? I'm not seeing it, personally. Can you be more specific? The one thing I'm seeing that really gets me riled up on occasion is Ishihara's insistence on changing the series' visual aesthetics. Not really a big concern of mine so far except for that one instance with the armour poll. Don't change the design philosophy with that, please. Elaborating on the design is fine, (it is a sequel, after all) but starting something over from scratch would make it totally unrecognizable. That isn't a welcome change. ...I'm worried about how far they've gone with keeping us waiting, and how they still get a kick out of it even now. :15: I'm the opposite. I could wait another 2 years or so as long as it means the game is good, and not shitty. I hope they take all the time they can afford.

If anyone is expecting a "classic" in the very sense, then they are asking for the physically impossible.
As for the topic in question, sequels and spin-offs will inevitably stray from what makes the story 'original'.
Even the transition from DASH 1 to DASH 2 has quite a few differences which can be considered contradictory: Case in point, for a world of endless water there sure is lots of land mass in the second game.

"It would take an army with billions of dollars at its disposal 10 or more years to make FF7(any game in my opinion) cater to every fans need" No amount of time or money can meet an impossible goal. The diversity of a fandom's tastes can't be reconciled by adding things, not when you account for fans that love the things that other fans hate. You can make a game that's appealing as possible, but you can't avoid making a large swath of fans feel alienated.

I personally believe that the developers want to cater to the Legends fans, while trying to bring in new fans as well. That's what the prototype is there for: for the new fans to bring them up to speed about what happened in the series so far.
Since the Prototype's advertised as much as possible, it does give the vibe that Legends 3 would be straying way to far from the series. But, I am almost positve that the end of the Prototype, MegaMan would be saved and the actual game wouldn't stray off-course of the Legends track.

I feel neutral about this idea. While I can agree it does stray a bit, this prototype, I can't say anything certain yet as I've not yet played it.

Well that is a given, every sequel 'strays' from the original in some way. Sometimes in a good way and sometimes in a horrendous bad way. I not worried about MML3 going to far astray though. As long as I can shoot reaverbots with my buster and jetskate through town, I'll be happy.
