Finally got around to making this video demonstrating my favorite MML glitch. In preparation for it I ended up spending the last few weeks playing through MML in each mode for the first time in a few years. It was worth it though, so I could re-learn the Auto-Vaccuum trick and throw in a demonstration of that. Now it's there for posterity forever. Enjoy!
(Second YouTube video I've ever uploaded. That account doesn't get a lot of use.)
Pasting in my ridiculously long in-depth description:
This is a demonstration of one of my favorite exploitable bugs in the first MML game. I found one other video on YouTube that features this, but the quality on that one was just unbearably awful and it wasn't very helpful in showing how the trick works or how to make the best use of it. So I figured it was time to take matters into my own hands.
This takes place in the area of the sub-ruins network that connects to the Lake Jyun Sub-Gate. The first minute of the video is me entering from the eastern Jyun exit and clearing out all the enemies in the east side of the area. It's actually not necessary to kill the Mimics, but I do it anyway just for the extra zenny.
Then we get to the door connecting the east and west halves of the area. I believe the intended function of passing through the door is to remove enemies from the area you're leaving while loading enemies from the area you're approaching. For this particular door, it seems they forgot the "remove" step. So every time you pass through the door, any Golbesh that hasn't been killed yet will be cloned and loaded into the same spot. These guys will be "sleeping" by default, but the arrival of a new clone disturbs it so each previous one gets up and starts moving and shooting and only the most recently created clone will be resting when you arrive.
There can be up to 12 Golbeshes loaded at a time. If there are already 12 and you pass through the door once more, the most recent clone will start moving as if another warped into place, but there won't be new arrival there. Technically it IS there, but it's sort of invisible. Once you bring the number of clones down to below 12 and pass through the door again, the previously invisible new arrival will be there sleeping as if nothing happened.
You can keep cloning Golbeshes by passing through this door endlessly as long as the most recent arrival is alive. Killing whichever Golbesh is sleeping when you enter the room stops clones from appearing in that spot. If you clone up to the max amount and go through the door again so the sleeping one is invisible, then you can kill everything in the room without worrying about leaving the right one alive.
The glitch affects every Golbesh in the area, including the four on the east side, but I prefer to kill those four at the beginning and concentrate the effect on the two in the west since they're closest to the door and there's a lot of room to maneuver, which is nice when there's a swarm of fireballs constantly chasing you. You could also try killing all but the southmost one in the east so that makes them all bunch together against a corner as you approach, and if you position yourself right, you can shoot at them while they can't shoot back because the fireballs are blocked by the wall. If you're not worried about your dodging ability though, the method I demonstrate is fastest. Kill all but the two in the west, do seven laps through the door, head through and kill all 12 clones, return to the door and do another 12 laps, repeat. In the video I do two cycles like that before demonstrating what happens if you kill the sleeping ones by heading through early.
This happens to be one of the best zenny-farming methods in the game, if not THE best.
Works well with the Auto-Vaccuum trick, which I also demonstrate here. In case you're wondering how I can suck up refractor shards while running and shooting, here's what you do: Start up the Vaccuum Arm, then while holding left or right, plus L or R, plus the Buster button, let go of the Special Weapon button. If successful, you should start running/turning and shooting before the Vaccuum Arm actually stops and so it will continue to pick up shards while you multi-task. The effect seems to be mainly dependent on your bullet stream. When your buster fire is interrupted, you may hear a little puff from your Vaccuum Arm indicating the effect has ended. So to start off, having a maxed-out Buster Energy stat is necessary to keep this going indefinitely, and on top of that you should avoid running backwards, getting hit, standing still, letting go of the buster button, or jumping. Occasionally I've kept the Vaccuum going despite jumping or getting hit, but better safe than sorry. Thankfully, constant circle-strafing is safe, including changing direction, and that's all you really need to do anyway.
