Why did they get rid of that Beta town?! Man, now I wonder how different their plans for Legends 2 were at the start of production compared with what we wound up with in the end.

Well Prototype Yosyonke didn't seem to look that different, but that prototype Nino should have been kept and expanded on. The Calbania prototype (Giant Horokko) didn't look too different either, it was just missing the fallen satellite things. I for one am glad the weird blue hair girls didn't make it in

Whoa, didn't get to the Calbania video. I'm willing to bet that gaint Horokko became Rush Mamoo, judging by its size and attack. Pretty uncanny. Great use of the SOTC soundtrack. Very appropriate.

I'd like to see those text boxes translated. Some of them look interesting. Would it be much trouble to get screenshots of everything those Proto-Ruminoa townspeople say? The words I caught a glimpse of in the video: 3:07 - "Hanashi kakenjane~yo!! Odoroita?" - Something about a "conversation", then "Surprised?" 3:09 - "............Atashi ga nani ka iu to omotta?" - "What do I say and think?" I think... 3:12 - "Game ga stop shitara, sugu ni soft no hito ni renrakushinakya... ...masaka sonna koto naito omoukedo..." - something about in-game communication? Not being able to think of anything? 3:16 - "Roll-chan to Tron-chan to docchi ga suki?" ->Roll-chan ->Tron-chan "Which one do you like? Roll or Tron?" picked Roll - "'DASH2' tanoshi najano~" - "DASH2 is fun, isn't it?" 3:20 - "Mousugu fuyunasumi... Nani shite asobaukana? Sousou, anata mo rainen kara suggoku iso ga shikunaru to omou kara, yukkuri yasundene" - something about "winter vacation", "next year", and "rest"? I think these conversations are indicators that the developers were being worked way too hard for this (especially considering how little of it made it to release). 5:51 - "Bar no naka niaru kanban ga hikatteru no shitteru?" ->Hai ->Iie "Do you know (something about 'light' and 'dry plate') inside the bar?" Picked No - "Okkureteru~" I think she says you're annoying? Picked Yes - "Hee~ monoshiri da ne" - "Ooh, you know a lot, don't you." 5:59 - "Nani ka ki no kiita serifu o ii tain dakedo omoi tsukanai no...gomenne" - apologizing about...something else about "saying" "words" and "think" That decorative airship flying around the cieling in " Restaurant" says " Kyain". Wonder what that's aboot. Doesn't it say "Kyain" in the final version too? Seems familiar, anyway. I could never figure out what Kyain meant...until just now, oddly enough. I followed one of the related video links to OKeiji's MML Animal Abuse video, and noticed that "Kyaiiiiiiiiiiiiiin" is exactly what Paprika howls when Rock kicks her in the Japanese version (2:10). Wonder if that's actually what that little airship is supposed to reference?

These are superb findings indeed.
I just realized something. Episode 1 is in the PSP version of DASH 2. Is it possible to hack into the town in that port?

I don't think It's possible as cheat engines for computers only and I don't know how to convert these to gameshark and I don't think theres a gameshark for the PSP.

First off I gotta say this is a cool find, I never knew that much stuff was in the beta (I wonder what's in the English release). I for one am glad the weird blue hair girls didn't make it in Wasn't she in the Yosyonke cemetery commenting about how odd it is to look at your own grave or something (apparently she was rescued from forbidden island)? I always thought she never looked like any of those decidedly male diggers you found frozen on the island.

Wow Trege nice work this stuff is awesome. Though my internet was being a pain and I didn't get to see everything it was still awesome. Nice videos and screens!
That beta town was nice looking, I think we need a Mega Man Legends Official Complete Works. That would be something nice to thumb through.
The blue haired girl is in the cemetary. That would be wierd seeing your own grave.

Turns out there was only one text box in that scene I didn't see in the video. I thought there were more girls in there the first time that you weren't talking to at all, but I guess I was just seeing the same ones from different angles and losing track. That happens to me all the time in game environments like this. By the way, I'm just noticing this now, but there are no males in Episode 1 besides Rock, are there? (Kobuns hardly count). Even in Betaville, it must be located on Terra's island of the Amazons. Or maybe this is just another example of the DASH Devteam's long-standing insistence on focusing on female characters before all else.Gonna copy my half-assed translations into a quote of your screenshots, plus the answer to the Tron choice. I'd still like to see someone with a better grasp of Japanese clarify, but for the most part I think they're Devteam in-jokes about having to come up with random things for these girls to say for testing purposes. Yellow Shirt :"Bar no naka niaru kanban ga hikatteru no shitteru?" ->Hai ->Iie "Do you know (something about 'light' and 'dry plate') inside the bar?" choice 1Picked Yes - "Hee~ monoshiri da ne" - "Ooh, you know a lot, don't you." choice 2Picked No - "Okkureteru~" I think she says you're annoying? Blue shu recolor :"Nani ka ki no kiita serifu o ii tain dakedo omoi tsukanai no...gomenne" - apologizing about...something else about "saying" "words" and "think" Red Shu Recolor :2"Mousugu fuyunasumi... Pink Girl"Roll-chan to Tron-chan to docchi ga suki?" ->Roll-chan ->Tron-chan "Which one do you like? Roll or Tron?" choice 1 :picked Roll - "'DASH2' tanoshimi jano~" - "DASH2 is fun, isn't it?" choice 2 :picked Tron - "'Tron ni Kobun' o tanoshimi ni ne!" - "MoTB is fun too!" Blue girl 12"Hanashi kakenjane~yo!! Odoroita?" - Something about a "conversation", then "Surprised?" Blue Girl 2"............Atashi ga nani ka iu to omotta?" - "What do I say and think?" I think... blue shirt 2"Game ga stop shitara, sugu ni soft no hito ni renrakushinakya... ...masaka sonna koto naito omoukedo..." - something about in-game communication? Not being able to think of anything?

Really impressive find! Maybe you didn´t notice it, but there´s a different shader in that beta town, look closely to the shades on the character´s clothes, those are actual shades, not just fake shades drawn on the textures as in the final product: i88.photobucket.com/albums/k185/Alecsandar1111/Beta%20NPCs/yellowshirtchoice2.png(Compare) Demo: MML2: This shading looks nicer in my opinion. I just realized that was Shu´s rich missing sister! She doesn´t wear old clothes.

Oh no sorry I was using an advanced cartoon shader for EPSXE it makes it look more cel shaded. The beta looks the same as the final game in terms of shading.

Why did they get rid of that Beta town?! Same reasons why developers remove or drastically change stuff in the betas. As such, the world will never know.

Hey Trege (and Raijin kind of), did you know this got translated over at the Reploid Research Lavatory? I'm not seeing any mention of it here, so I'm guessing no? Go check it out; it's nothing terribly interesting, but it's nice to see what they've got there. And that last quote is neat. XD This was quite a find, I must say. o__o

Seems to me that the town might have been nothing more than to test things, and was not intended for the final game, judging by the dialogue they're saying. That might also explain why they're referring to Mega as "the player" instead of Volnutt, "the player" could mean to refer to whoever was testing the area, in short, the staff.
And then some of you may be wondering "Well, why was it included as a screenshot then?" Well it happens to A LOT of games actually. Such as the Pokemon Red/Blue manual having a screen that says "The Brock would like to fight" instead of "Brock". It's a common thing for beta screenshots to slip out. I think there might have been some beta screens in Nintendo Power's Banjo-Tooie guide as well.
Whoever designed the packaging was probably just using stock they were given and threw out everything they found interesting instead of what is in the actual game. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's the entire reason why these things get out so frequently.
