I don't deserve a custom title. I haven't been too active on here lately.

One day I'll have a custom title. On that same day, I'm going to turn someone else into a fan of Point and Click Adventure Games (again)!

I don't deserve a custom title. I haven't been too active on here lately. Well it's a good thing you mentioned it. I'm sure the admins have just been racking their brains to come up with custom titles for every member that hasn't been too active. At least you chimed in to let them know they didn't have to worry about it. If only the other 600 such members would follow that example. If it's one thing this forum needs more of, it's people posting to let everyone know they have nothing important to post about.

I don't deserve a custom title. I haven't been too active on here lately. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that they only give custom titles to those that have been quite active here and gained a reputation of sorts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that they only give custom titles to those that have been quite active here and gained a reputation of sorts. Reputation seems to take priority... If you do something 'significant' they title you... One member had like less than 20 post and badge and was dubbed "fastest badge earner ever" On the flip-side, some of us have been majorly active without a rep, and due to activity w/o rep get some bleak but relevant title...Ie: "too cool to not have a custom title" - while that one belongs to a member with a good rep, their rep is rather basic (no offense, man) compared to reps to get CTs like "invented the blade nose" NOTES: It's been so long since i even look at another member's title i dont know whose is whose but i remember the titles.

@a guy: Now that you mention it, it does seem that reputation takes priority. If I remember correctly, I think it was Press Start that had contributed to the Sky Pirates Arcade; and he had a few posts then.
I wouldn't be surprised that it can be quite difficult to make unique custom titles for everyone as there are over 600 members on the board already. Imagine if every single one of them were very active?

IF they were... CTs would be easier imho...
Activity bolsters rep... and the more people to be active to/with bolsters it even further, in fact because we have some few opinions and ideas, is why CTs are hard to conjure.

I got my custom title just from something I've posted in this thread. Go find it. and don't push Dashe to think harder for CTs, she's been busy with other things, like certain revival research.

I'm thinking maybe the intense sarcasm of my last post wasn't detected. I'm trying to express my disdain for people needling the staff to get a custom title, and that's pretty much what the entirety of this 5-page thread is. Yes, that applies to rivers as well, and Chao and Adrian. When you come into this thread just to say "I probably don't deserve a custom title yet", it's pretty transparent code for "please give me a custom title now!". You're drawing attention to yourself while trying to act nonchalant about it because you at least realize that directly asking for a title is in poor taste. It's not endearing. Sure, it worked for Mikey earlier on, but it helped that he was already endearing otherwise.
Like I said earlier, forums tend to approach appointed custom titles as either a reward for meeting a set achievement (the impersonal method), purely by request (the pointless method), or as unsolicited personalized recognition (the good method). This forum uses the latter, and I would like to stress the "unsolicited" part. Nearly everyone in this thread is defeating the purpose of that and trying to make it work like the pointless method. If you're trying to bring about a custom title by yourself, you may as well skip the middleman and play with the "Personal Text" field in your Profile because it's basically the same thing.
If my griping comes off as insensitive and selfish because I've already been "blessed" with a highly-coveted custom title, then staff, go ahead and remove it. I care much less about having a custom title than I do about convincing other members not to post like superficial sycophants.
Having a custom title doesn't make you special. Being special might earn you a custom title. Forget about recognition and just try to be the best poster you can be.

I completely agree, asking for a costume title is ridiculous. It's not important anyhow, it's just a little sentence under your name, don't be concerned about it.

Great. I scroll to the first page of the thread and feel the fond memories yet slight embarrassment rush forward. I guess it's something I'm going to have to adapt to with time. Heh. :41: remind me via PM instead and save me some minor embarrassment, please.

I agree 100% with Raijin. People who ask me for a custom title tend to get on my nerves a lot when they ask for one. Especially if they've asked me for a custom title in the past and want it changed. If you really want some sort of quantitative way to gauge when you're due for a custom title, think of it this way. You get one when you've assimilated yourself well enough into this board's culture and made the effort to get to know us and show us something about yourself in return. Like the difference between a casual acquaintance you'd call for homework help and a close friend you'd call to gossip and chat, back when people used phones for that stuff. Becoming grounded within a community is never something you should rush--usually when you do, you just look silly, or like you're obviously trying too hard. Some people are more naturally adept at finding their place than others. Some people have very obvious accomplishments, or consistently do things that make it very easy to give them a custom title. With others, it felt right to give them a title because of how well they got along and the quality of their contributions, even if I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was that made them fit so well. There is definitely an element of give and take involved, as with any sort of relationship, so just be yourself. Contribute something. Give us some way to get to know you better, so you're more like a person than a screenname*--in most cases, that's the point when I give a custom title out. I hope that helps clear things up for all parties involved. *Giving yourself a screenname that could pass for a normal name or word, while nice for making it easier to directly address you, doesn't automatically make you seem more personable and is not a deciding factor in how quickly you get a custom title. Your actions are what matter the most.

Rai, Dashe I for one have to at least say I'm not greedy/picky when it comes to one...These latest few posts in here have been to see if I've yet earned the rights to a new one...not asking for it. ---------------------I admit/acknowledge I initially asked for a few, and the one I've got now is via my request. And apologize for the dissent both actions caused. However hollow or full you take my apology is in your hands.
As for those saying they probably don't deserve one: That's simply being modest...but as with IRL examples of modesty: Others will insult and abuse you for it. Modesty is nice but the one who don't like it will either use your modesty to gain from you or make insults to/about you.
As with me, I can't say I'm 'showing it' but I've learned: don't ask for them. Like I Said...I simply wanted to know if I've yet reached a new one. That is not 'asking' for a new one.

These latest few posts in here have been to see if I've yet earned the rights to a new one...not asking for it. That statement in itself is a contradiction, you know.
