I noticed most members have been getting custom titles.
I wonder,
Do you have to have a certain amount of posts, or does it depend on your 'rank'?
This is out of curiosity, but it's something I've been meaning to ask.

I think you can request one at any time. Once upon a time we had a requirement that you be past 400 posts to get one, but I don't think we're doing that any more. Nowadays they're mostly given out based on a user's personality — that is, usually by the staff, not necessarily by the user's request.. (Mine's both!) Many of them are inside jokes.
Incidentally, your "rank" depends entirely on your post count (unless you're staff), so it would be one in the same, if obtaining a custom title were dependent on your rank. (The 400 post requirement, as I recall, corresponded with the "Hanmuru Doll" rank, though I don't think it does any more...)
On an almost completely unrelated note, I hope Legends 3 comes with some nice new reaverbot names to use for titles, because this wojigairon title is getting so very old... :22:

I didn't ask for mine (I'm not that egotistical to ask for a title like that), I just woke up one day to find out some admin thought I was 'cool'. That was a nice day.
So I think the only requirement for a custom title is that you build up a rapport with the staff to the point they feel like giving you one, and that obviously doesn't happen overnight. I like boards that distribute custom titles like that. It's a better expression of comraderie than something cold and mechanical like reaching X amount of posts, and less self-indulgent than requesting them yourself (you get Avatars, Quotes, and Sigs for customization you want to add yourself).

I see. Thank you very much. I felt like a doop, wondering how this happens. Hurr hurr
Well, if I did have a custom title, I want it to say... 'The Digital Awesome Sauce'

@pitch: The 400 post thing was the whole deal over the 'Hanmaru Doll Club' back then, right?

Blues Hah. I wouldn't really know. That whole thing went down while I was away because of computer troubles or something. It was a bit before I was ever really active here, actually. And, glancing at that topic, it looks like the requirement was 350 posts even back then. That's weird; I could've sworn it was 400. Guess I was mistaken, then. EDIT: Tracked it down. Here's an ancient ancient ancient post from fAB regarding custom titles and ranks; I guess I am just crazy or something: For those who care to wonder, the little name beneath your own name is your title, or rank. On these forums we go by the names of Reaverbots. The more you post, the higher you rank. Here are the post amounts that equal the ranks... 000-059 = Zakobon060-114 = Arukoitan115-224 = Gorubeshu225-349 = Sharukurusu350-999 = Hanmuru DollAt 400 posts you may choose your own custom title to have beneath your name, if you so desire. While post count is the key to this, don't think that SPAM will get you anywhere, because SPAM posts can and will be deleted.

...I thought that this stuff was just added to people's profiles by Dashe or fab whenever they decided someone deserved a particular title. Does this mean Pitch's "The Quintessential Yuna Fan", Blues' "MMLS NYCC Reporter Extraordinaire", Rajin's "Too Cool to Not Have a Custom Title", etc. were put up by themselves? D: EVERYTHING I KNOW IS WRONG.

D: EVERYTHING I KNOW IS WRONG. No, Jorsh, everything you know is right. Pitch put up the old system, which was essentially effective until fAB torched post count back in '06. That's when the requirement for a custom title became a matter of calling it like I see it. Or, rather, like fAB saw it, since I don't think I could modify profiles until 2007 (fAB, correct me if I'm wrong on this).

Hah. Pitch's "The Quintessential Yuna Fan" Actually, I requested Ultimate Yuna Fan, at the suggestion of fAB, if my memory serves. Back in the day, my arch-nemesis Paragon would go on to name himself “Ultimate Sera Fan,” so there was a whole symmetry going on there. Quintessential Yuna Fan is a clever joke on that title, courtesy of Dashe. Once again, this was from the staff. I think I remember Blues asked one of 'em to change it back so he could screencap his old title or something. My guess is that Dashe gave him that when she was handing out the Decade Wait Day badges, 'cause that's around the time I remember seeing it. I know for sure he didn't request it, though. Most of them aren't requested directly any more. I don't know if they're still honoring the 400 post rule, but I imagine people still can request it after that many posts. You never know. EDIT: Ninja'd kind of.

Just noticed Anima got her title after all. Well a title, and a fitting one I'd say. That's one identity (or several, as the case may be) that she's established rather quickly.

Quintessential Yuna Fan is a clever joke on that title, courtesy of Dashe. Nah, it wasn't clever. Just a really, really bad pun. Like Mother Units Spare Time. I'm not too big on the custom title requests. It gives members less incentive to stick around long enough to establish a title through their actions here. I'll take them into consideration, but probably won't stick to them like glue.

Ah. Well, I feel kinda stupid now. Maybe in a month or two I'll request something. I'm not sure I've really done anything that could "establish a title through my actions" though. I'll figure something out...:22: EDIT: oh, well now I've just noticed my "Pianoman" title. cool. I guess that fits. Thank you~

It was either that or "That guy who plays handhelds on the roof." And there is a character limit to these things.

It's nice to be known by something! ^^

I always thought custom titles were meant for the admins to assign, in any case. On an older friends-during-school kind of proboard, the title I was dubbed was "Franz Ferdinand". A really bad joke and pun, you really don't want to know, and I really don't want to say. lol
Which still- the future title makes me wonder how the superiors will think of me here. <3
