I cringed when I read this. Gotta have equal representation for the people who've been waiting for this game since it was announced a month ago, right? Seriously, Capcom? Just make the game yourself... This is getting old fast.

What makes me cringe are the people responding saying they want to help write the story. :01:

I think I died a little inside when I read that. Mainly the part about the people who've never played a Legends game in their life. I'm worried now. :18:

Well we already know that Capcom does want some help from the fans writing the story in some way, shape or form. So I guess it's not surprising that fans (or non-fans) are expressing interest in that. Disappointing? Yeah... It probably would've been unrealistic to hope that all the fans would just want Capcom to write it themselves I guess, though. Every time I get to thinking fan input sounds like a cool idea, one of these blog-posts/interviews pops up. I hope they've got something cool to show us after these polls are over at least. I'm tired of hearing how they want the fans to ruin help with the game; I want to see what they have to show us. (Is that such an odd request?) And apparently the next update is October 29. So I'm gonna hang in there for that; fingers crossed and whatnot. EDIT: @buster Cannon Just keep telling yourself it's too soon to be worried. >.< That's what I'm doing. It helps.

Well, I wrote the boys at Capcom a nice book.

Well, Capcom has pretty much already sold the game to all of us and most who are vocal in the CU Devroom. That's a whopping 100 people or so. I can understand if they're worried about getting a skew image of what their potential MML3 buyers want. MML is a decade old, so there will be a lot of people who haven't played the original games, but might be interested in in taking a look at MML3. Understandably, Capcom want to engage and poll this group, which might very well be a majority.

Understandably, Capcom want to engage and poll this group [people who've never played the games], which might very well be a majority. Indeed, this is most likely the case. I've been saying this from day one: as Legends fans, we're still in the minority. Fan input is a sales mechanism; it isn't here to do us any favors — it's there for the people who didn't like MegaMan Legends in the first place. (and the people who've never heard of it) This is why I wish Capcom could just make the game themselves, the way they want to make it. I don't mind if the game is lousy, but it's the way Capcom wanted it to be. But if the game is ruined by the fan-input, from people who aren't even fans in the first place, that would just be awful. :11: It's too soon to be worried. It's too soon to be worried. It's too soon to be worried...!

Seriously, someone really ought to bring that up about non-Legends fans influencing the development. They ought to try waiting ten years for a game. It might give 'em some perspective. >_<

I believe their 'fan involvement' is partly marketing and partly sincere query. I definitely believe that they will be influenced by opinions voiced in the devroom about minor issues, like can kicking, or perhaps dungeon connectivity. I doubt they're gonna grab a totally new idea about ... uh, having a League of Pirates which extort islands for money and show up with a fleet when this huge artificial... underwater reaverbot island surfaces. Then the digger 'Yellow Devil' is hired by the villagers to check out the island but the LoP are... oh wait... I'm giving the story away for my fan comic here!!! >_<
And I don't think that non-fans will actually bother to be vocal about their ideas. One guy stated that he would simply want to be able to get into the game without having to played the old ones, which is pretty reasonable. Put a recap in and make it accessible enough. Non-fan input would probably mostly be generic stuff like... make the game fun! Fun characters - put them in the game!

Also interesting to note...what if they're doing this specifically to get a head count? It's probably beneficial for all parties involved (both the developers AND the fans) to know where a lot of this fan input, whether it's a sincere request, a marketing ploy, or some combination of the two, is coming from...so if someone who barely knows the characters starts voicing opinions on which way they should go, at the very least we know they're not coming from our fanbase and can respond appropriately.

I'm rather concerned myself, although most of the diehards over there, including us, are doing our part to point out stupid ideas that would really ruin the game. Much of this is just going to be marketing, if we've learned anything from pretty much every game company that has ever gone through with this. Much of it will be up to the team, if their method of flagging certain threads for review tells me anything.
I won't deny it: they need plenty of new purchasers to get any profit for this game, and this includes grabbing the interest of potential gamers willing to try out the new installment. It should work out fine for us, but it's possible that there will be compromises--nasty ones, maybe.

I, for one, think it's pretty cool they're listening to us, I don't think they'll go out of their way too much with the provided ideas, they just want to know what we liked so they can work on that and avoid what we didn't like, no big deal... Or so I hope after some of the stuff I read in that topic. But if the game is ruined by the fan-input, from people who aren't even fans in the first place, that would just be awful. :11: It's too soon to be worried. It's too soon to be worried. It's too soon to be worried...! Please don't be so negative, now you're making me worried! If this keeps up I'll have to take up that "it's too soon to be worried" mantra myself. :24:

... I don't think they'll go out of their way too much with the provided ideas, they just want to know what we liked so they can work on that and avoid what we didn't like, no big deal ... This is what I'd been telling myself, but every time I got to thinking that, they'd come along and give me more reason to doubt. I figured they'd keep fan input nice and simple, trivial little things, like character designs and such, but it just keeps getting bigger than that. (Or so they say; we haven't seen any other polls/etc. yet, that I know of — except this thing today) When I heard they actually want the fans to go anywhere near the plot, that was the last straw for me. Now they're saying they're especially interested in the opinions of people who've never played the games. It's not looking good. But it's still too early to panic. I'm uneasy but I'm not panicked yet. I'm still thrilled we're getting our game, don't get me wrong, but I wish Capcom would just make the game themselves. As much as I'd love to take up a pathologically optimistic, passive stance on this, I think it's time to get serious. We're not talking about hypothetical situations here. This is for real. It still doesn't feel real, but it is. Again, don't panic, though; it's waaay too early to be panicking, and it won't help a damn thing if you do. I just think it's time to start looking at this a bit more critically. (just a bit)

I've never liked the idea of Capcom or another company asking for the fans help. I want to play a game that came from a bunch of people's minds I've never met or heard of. If I wanted to create MML3 my way or certain type of way, I would get off my lazy butt and do something about it. (I.E. writing a fan fiction, admit at video game creating, drawing, etc)
I see it as if I'm going to make something I'm not going to give anybody my ideas so they could use it later. That's plagiarism.
On the other hand, I would be pretty interesting if Capcom did use of the fan's good ideas and placed them in the game. I would give it more of a sense of "belonging" and "ownership."
Then again you could have bragging rights and everybody loves that.
Group 1 is probably going to underrepresented for the simple fact that most people haven't said with the series as long as we have. Most of them decided since we are not getting a sequel, lets move on already. Along with the age difference between now and ten years ago. Peoples opinions and beliefs change over time.
I did get the original game back in '97, but that's because I remembered the Mega man cartoon, which helped give Capcom their money that love so dearly.
I didn't play the game until 2001 though because I got spooked out by it at first. I was a fragile child then. Now 21 years old and I still have to wait for the 3ds to come and then MML3 to come out. I'm rather inpatient at this point.
They should still take their time though. I wouldn't want the game to become a complete failure.
