@mlt, You got my vote. For something as rushed as you make it sound, this is probably one of the better platform games I've played in awhile. I love how you handled the graphics ( I swear to god you stole my idea). I'd seen them before, but not in-game, and I'm amazed how well they fit. It's perfect. I'd also love to pick at the engine, if you'd be willing to share it. That would be really generous of you. My anti-virus was having a fit when I downloaded this, and I had to shut it off along with my internet connection just to play it. Not really an issue, but I'm sad that I had to delete it just so my computer would stfu.

All right, finally got through the other submissions. You guys definitely get a 10/10 for diversity. From the top: Fab: Yours probably addressed the passage of time thing the most directly of any of the other entries. Simple, but effective. It also relaxed me a lot more than any of the other entries, which I give bonus points for. Pitch: I told you when you gave me that sneak preview, but these new ones are definitely an improvement over the old, mods or not. I’m split between Roll and Yuna as my favorite of the bunch... Both have a sort of high-contrast thing going that makes them stand out. Also, never noticed before, but Pokemon hair is amazingly similar to Legends hair... And I see “Phun” is making a comeback. o.o Raven: The gift-giving idea is quite adorable, and your explanation does give it added depth. The lack of dialogue was also a nice choice, as was using the same medium you used for the original with the new. Blues: I was never really a lego person (my friends all loved the stuff, but I was a bit more of a Knex guy), but that almost makes me wish I had a set. That’s pretty keen. And a really good likeness... It’s instantly recognizable. Raijin: Well, THAT’S convenient. Great art as always. You’ve definitely got the strongest contrast between old and new here imo. And of course, bonus points for it being of Juno. Darfox: I feel as though I need to have played LBP to get the full impact here. o.o The visuals are definitely good though. I found the whole thing wonderfully surreal, especially the Unmade Games bit. Overall, really creative angle to take with this thing... Don’t think doing a game level based on Inafune trying to make Legends 3 with Capcom taking the form of an obstacle course would have ever occurred to me. TronBonne: HELL YES Naite Ii Yo. I still pop that track now and then, and it was lovely hearing your flute rendition. Flutter theme was also good. I’m not much of a music guy, but it’s always a treat for me to hear people I know perform. (Also, kudos on knowing so many different instruments. If I could learn to play just one, I’d consider it a miracle). Dashe: HA. I loved it. Great portrait of a fandork. Liked the self-deprecating humor, liked the use of the forums as bookends, liked that one line about Capcom making a sequel cause that’s how they go, et cetera. Never heard the original, and not sure if that would have helped or hurt my impression, but it does stand nicely on its own. It’s a shame more time wasn’t spent on it though, given how much attention that video ended up getting. But such is life, I guess. :15: Buster: Gave you some of my thoughts already, but again, nice work putting the site together, especially considering it was your first time and all. I’ve actually been finding use for it already, as I needed some info recently and couldn’t get any decent references for some of the weapons from MMLS. Trege: Alas, it would not load for me. :03: I’ll try again later. Mlt: Your game sucks. You suck. Shut up. Get out of my sight. And don’t you dare make any long posts on the way out, I’m sick of reading those things. Many thanks. (And I rather dislike those instructions myself, looking at them now. I really shouldn't be allowed around Photoshop when I haven't slept. >_>) Afraid not. It's one of those programs that represents everything as visuals within the program itself. There's no actual text code or anything that can be copied. So no go. I'll send you a link that may help, though. Thanks. It definitely was rushed, though. Don't doubt that. For the record, this is the early version that Dashe, Pitch, and a few others got. (Hit space to generate an enemy at the mouse). That was basically where things stood last Thursday. No visuals, no levels, glitchy controls, and only one half-finished enemy. At that point I was still being naive and working out the events for all the other classes, thinking I could finish rough versions of all of them by Saturday. It wasn't until Friday I decided that was a terrible idea, and that I ought to focus on just polishing up one class for now. From there, it was basically 2.5 days of doing nothing but sprites, 1 day doing last-minute bug fixes, and then half a day of figuring out how to put the actual level together. >_> It was less than pleasant. Anyway, yeah, I remember us discussing 2D game visuals a while back. Our ideas were definitely similar, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't take some inspiration from the stuff you linked to. Though I thought everything came out just a little TOO smooth and clean-looking and not really natural enough, personally. Too much like it could have been made in nothing but Flash. I had a more painterly look in mind originally (see the background in that old version there, for instance). It's grown on me a bit, though. Well, I've got a one-room version here, if you guys want. linkSame controls, but hit Z to spawn a Zakoban at the mouse, X for a FooRoo, and C for the boss (you can only have one of him though, or stuff gets messed up). Having a lot of FooRoo around is pretty safe, but the Zakoban aren't as well made, so put 20 of them out at your own risk. I cleaned it up a little so it wouldn't be quite as embarrassing, but I should note, it's still terribly messy. I mentioned this to Pitch already... The events for the Digger and Zakoban were some of the oldest stuff I made in MMF, and they are inelegant and badly documented. My general method of working was basically to first implement a feature in the most straightforward way possible. Then when I found an error, rather than going back in and trying to figure out a cleaner way of doing the same thing, I'd just add more events to cover for that new contingency I found. Basically, every time I found a problem, I'd just keep throwing more code at it until it worked how I wanted it to. And then I'd just add an addendum to the end of my comments for the section saying to disregard some of what I wrote previously and do this instead. So you can imagine, it got really, really messy. Then there was this whole slew of problems like Qualifiers not working as I expected them to and objects having a limit on the number of variables you could attach to them, which I didn’t know about at first and which tripped me up later. The movement system is probably the worst thing in there. If you’re willing to dig through it though, more power to you. I’ll probably end up redoing all the older stuff later, so I can give a cleaner version then if you like. Ah, yeah. Sorry about that. Can't help you guys there. Just one reason why MMF2 sucks. I had a similar problem with mine, where the compiler kept getting read as a virus every time I tried to build. It was not fun.

Both have a sort of high-contrast thing going that makes them stand out. Also, never noticed before, but Pokemon hair is amazingly similar to Legends hair... Thanks. And yeah, the contrast is probably best (or most noticeable at least) on either of them, for different but equally uninteresting reasons. Pokémon trainer sprites in general make me think of Legends often — especially the ones from Heart Gold/Soul Silver. The entire time I was playing that I was constantly seeing sprites that made me think, “I have to edit these to look like Legends characters..” And I see “Phun” is making a comeback. o.o Ah yeah. It started as a bit of a joke, but it's also for super-secret ninja reasons. :14: :22: Basically, every time I found a problem, I'd just keep throwing more code at it until it worked how I wanted it to. ... So you can imagine, it got really, really messy. Take any programmer/developer beginning to work in a new language/style/etc. and you'll find a story like this one. :24:

Hoo boy, time to make the obligatory monster post where I comment on each submission individually. *clears throat* @fabI really like the concept of this one. It's simplistic, but it really makes you re-think the past 10 years. The number of releases is a lot more than I thought it was. Nice job! @green/PitchI made some comments when you'd given me a sneak peek a while back, and I still agree that these are really nice sprites! The way the reaverbots came out was pretty awesome, too! @ravenNice comic overall! The explanation really made me look at it from a different viewpoint as well; gave it a lot more personality. BluesOh man, I remember messing around with legos myself back in the day. That's a really good representation of a Gorubeshu if I do say so myself. RaijinI love the sense of power you gave Juno! Having both the old and new images really shows how you revamped an old idea. Well done! @darfoxI really loved this one. The collection of unmade Capcom games was pretty neat, and I love how Inafune's fighting against the opposition to make the game. Really nice work there! TronBonneThe flute's an awesome instrument, and hearing the Flutter tune played with it was very nice! I kinda feel ashamed as a Legends fan to not even recognize Naite Ii Yo (I don't even think I've heard it once prior). :34: DasheI think your submission speaks for all of us as Legends fans. The progression of time throughout the video was nice, and it was pretty funny, too! Who'd have thought that it'd have attracted so much attention in so little time? @buster Cannon TregeYour submission was pretty well polished IMO. It took me a while to figure out how to actually play it, but it was a nice brain-teaser! @mltWow, this has been greatly improved since the demo you showed me earlier. The best thing about this game is the challenge level; making that long jump brought me back to the X series, which had lots of stuff like that. The instruction manual's gold, too!
And now for the feedback: @buster Cannon (Yes, I did forget yours was there ) That was a great idea putting up a site for your reviews. I was actually going to suggest that to you before you ever showed me what you were working on. But yeah, you handled that really well. The layout looks pretty cool, and the formatting on the reviews looks pretty great.. So yeah. Not bad eh. Thanks! I'd actually gotten into a couple of IM convos with other members asking me if I was going to make some kind of repository or not. This actually took place while I was making it, which ended up being quite hilarious. Buster Cannon I've seen some of your reviews on the message boards before and they intimidated the heck out of me. You're a fiend for breaking things down and your website is super slick. Thanks! Intimidating, eh? That's a new one. xD BusterCannon: I really can't say anything about your reviews and guides that haven't been said already. But that you compiled them all into a website is no small task. Truly, your site is one that I'm sure all of use will remember in highest regard as an archive for the Legends Art of War. Thank you! It was time-consuming, but it's nice to know that it'll get some use! Buster Cannon: Nice archive! The little hints at the bottom of the page kept me entertained for quite some time, I just kept refreshing to see what would come up, haha. There should be more of those >=PI really do want to make more of those little hints, I just need to think of some. xD You should check out the Karma guide in the Guides section, there's something just like that there. Buster Cannon: Wow. Just...wow. The interface is easy to use and very nice looking (MML2 : D ). It's great to have all the information organized in one place. Good job! I'm glad to see that it's easy to navigate. Thanks! Buster: Gave you some of my thoughts already, but again, nice work putting the site together, especially considering it was your first time and all. I’ve actually been finding use for it already, as I needed some info recently and couldn’t get any decent references for some of the weapons from MMLS. Thanks! First time's always the hardest! ;D

I was going to wait for all the entries to comment, but I'm beginning to see the value of getting the thoughts down fast and picking up the stragglers later. I'll try to be concise though.
Fab: A nice and serene trip down memory lane. I felt like the timeline could have been beefed up a bit by counting more than just the english releases of other MM games though. The whole story of the wait would include the games' announcements and other vaguely-Legends related news. This was a good layout for the limited time available though.
Green: I haven't touched Pokémon since its first iteration, but I still remember enough about it to picture battle scenes with those characters. It's a subtle and indirect approach to the nostalgia aspect of the theme and a nice use of your talent. I know the kind of effort that goes into getting all the right details into sprites, so good work.
Raven: You certainly win the improvement award. The old example is literally unreadable (I tried reading it a bit without the accompanied script, bad idea). You've clearly had practice over the years though. Judging from the new example as well as your sketchbook thread, you continue to improve. Right now I think you have a solid style but it remains difficult to make out some details where the linework get dense. That could just be a limiation of the pencil medium though.
Blues: Ahh Lego, now that's how to take us back. I like the unique approach to the concept. Impressive work capturing the Reaverbot's details in both the minimalistic original and the bigass new guy.
Darfox: I remember earlier when the idea of this "making of" game was brought up. I thought it sounded too awesome to be true, but you made it happen. My favorite part was IntiCreates offering to do MML3 from way at the end of the path but Inafune insisting on doing it himself, followed by all the hardship and agony that entails. Maybe it was just seeing fab's entry first that got this in my head, but I was wondering if the gem things you pick up on the way could have been spaced to represent the timeline. i.e. start off with 200101 in the counter, and collect 201010 by the end. I'm not too familiar with LBP so I can't comment on the work that went into it.
TronBonne: I'm an orchestra guy, but I never had to fight for the music education I wanted. I went with trombone since that was what I clicked with the most and never felt any burning desire to learn another instrument or go any farther with the hobby. I'm always impressed with those more driven and passionate about their instruments though. I know how hard it can be getting to know just one, so going through three or more of them is pretty inspirational. Your performances were extra heartwarming because of that.
Dashe: Having the only entry that people felt worthy to share with the rest of the fandom through the top MM news sites says a lot about how outclassed the rest of us are. I (and everyone else) have already given plenty of compliments, so I'll focus here on the things I felt had room for improvement. Having more than three days to work on it obviously would have helped. If time were not an issue, then I would have liked to see more cutaways like at "Trigger's stranded on Elysium" or "Inafune needs some money", so it's not just the same shot of you singing at your desk for 30 seconds at a time. In some cases you could keep the animated Dashe and just swap out the background momentarily to an appropriate illustrative image just to spice things up. Also, I got that the animation starts out choppy and gets better to simulate your artistic skills developing over the years, but while there's a noticable increase in framerate between verses 1 and 2, I didn't notice much difference at all between 2 and 3.
Buster Cannon: The great thing about a website like this as a submission is that you get to keep adding to it. I made sure to look at each page even though much of it I've already read here. So much information in one place is a great way to express the time you've dedicated to your fandom. Looking forward to seeing this grow as you eventually tackle the MML3 stuff. Also, bonus points for using my Mirumijee pic.
Trege: This was a very clever and amusing piece. I was able to guess the real perp as soon as I knew the type of crime it was though. So much for suspense. Still, fun interactive story, great tribute.
MLT: This was well worth the wait. The evidence of the rush is there, but it's built on clever level design that looks like it could be easily expanded on. The lack of recovery or continue can be maddening at times, but there's a certain learning curve in there such that what might take you 5 minutes and then death on one attempt will take 30 seconds without a scratch on the next one, and then you just have to worry about the next five minutes and death that lie beyond the point you made it to last time. I ended up dying more times than I cared to count, but could eventually breeze through the whole thing. I agree that it needs a Reaverbot counter now so I could try for a higher challenge.
Me: Thanks for the comments, everybody. I have to admit I felt like my approach was relatively mundane next to the more creative entries in this gallery, but taken all together I guess it fits in just perfectly. Like MLT said, we've put together a really diverse exhibition already. We've covered drawing, coloring, spriting, 3D modeling, animating, singing, music, programming, game design, web design, writing, even lego-building. If this thread has tought me anything, it's that the members of this form combined can master every form of creative expression known to man. I mean what's left? Poetry? Sculpture? Interpretive dance? We still have a few more stragglers, don't we?

Ladies and Gentlemen, THE POLLS ARE OPEN!I trust that none of you are going to run around voting for yourselves...and I'm adjusting the poll closing date to Friday, November 5th, to allow for the time the stragglers had to come in. I also included Snowman's entry on the poll. He never got back to me on whether his entry was intended as a submission or not, so I put it up there. The concept was really awesome, and I'm not just saying that because I practically did the same thing. :01: I kind of did this already in the first post, but I'll go through all the entries all the same. Sorry if my responses aren't as eloquent as everyone else's...I'm not that great with words. fAB: I really enjoyed that it put the literal amount of time we'd been spending sitting around waiting for this game into perspective. I know I told you this before, but thirty Mega Man games--not one of them Legends--is really, REALLY ridiculous. Pitch: Looking at your sprites makes me realize how much the Pokemon series has evolved, pun intended, since 2000. In fact, it serves as a great reminder of how much Nintendo's handhelds have changed since then. Back in 2000 all we had was the Game Boy Color...now the 3DS is coming up, and it's powerful enough to bring us a Legends 3 that can look and play better than any of the old Playstation games. Technology's a really mind-blowing thing, eh? Raven: I agree with everyone who says you've improved the most from your first entry, especially considering the contrast between your first piece, which was a small part of a huge, complex, entry, and your second, which was simple, succinct and stood well on its own, no dialogue or anything. A lot of writers and aspiring comic artists make the mistake of trying to go too big right off the bat, and you've clearly learned the value of simplicity here. Some people never do. Well done. Blues: LEEEEEEEEEEEEEGOS. Okay, now that that's out of my system, you were another hefty contender for "most improved," admittedly. That tiny little Gorubeshu you started with wouldn't last ten seconds in a fight with the bigger one. I'd hate to see what you wind up building five years from now...your current model would be toast. No contest. Garudoriten, anyone? Darfox: I am so glad you wound up seeing this to fruition! It was very well executed--I too liked the dialogue with the NPCs, and the hype train at the end was the icing on the cake. It's times like these when I wish I actually had LittleBigPlanet so I could play it through for myself! I really hope you go back and put in all the stuff you'd originally wanted to put in later, because you've got me really curious as to what you couldn't squeeze in before the deadline! Tronbonne: Because of your name, I almost put you in on the poll as a trombonist. :01: But like I did tell you before, it takes a lot of guts to stick with something when other people are trying to convince you that it isn't worth your time. No matter how you managed to get it done in the end, sticking to your guns was absolutely something Mega Man would have done in that situation, and it clearly paid off in the end. Brava! Dashe: Stop hogging everyone else's spotlight. Stupid diva. Buster: I said in the first post that your entry really speaks for itself, and honestly, I don't think there's any higher praise I could have possibly given. Truly strong work always speaks for itself. It took a lot of time, effort, and dedication to write up all those reviews, collect and create all those resources, and open up a website. You have my utmost respect and admiration for putting this together so professionally. Trege: I never knew you could make your own Phoenix Wright cases! Although guessing the arsonist was a bit too easy--I mean, there's only one real arsonist in the Legends universe--you've really captured the spirit of both Legends and Phoenix Wright in this! MLT: This is awesome, plain and simple. It makes me a bit disappointed that I'm just not a good enough gamer to get any more than just the blue refractor...that jump everyone's talking about is killing me. :01: Not to mention the Reaverbots...the character moves very smoothly, though. I like the way he handles. I never really had much of a problem moving around, it was just the Reaverbots kicking my butt again and again and again. But it's easy to see the time and dedication you put into this entry! Snowman: Like I said before, I will do whatever I can to make sure this one gets finished. Legends just plain needs more musical numbers. Even if I have to do all the voices myself...*gulp* Also, I'd like to extend a personal thanks to Raijin. Out of all those views and all those comments, his constructive criticism was the most helpful by far, and I will definitely take it into consideration next time--and believe me, there will be a next time for sure!

Oh, the dreaded moment of making a choice. I almost feel like it would be more appropriate to vote everybody for their own category. This is like comparing apples and oranges...and grapefruits, and limes, and pumpkins, and seven other fruits. It'll be tough. I'll mull it over for a day or two.
In the meantime, I wanna comment on the Tensai Bonne theme. I got into Yatterman a bit after TvC, so the whole thing made me smile a lot. It's really a shame you couldn't get the audio finished, but I agree that just the score alone is worthy of a submission and potential votes.

@buster Cannon and Raijin Thanks ×2. Glad you guys liked my sprites. I could say more, but I think I've rambled enough. Pitch: ... etc ... Technology's a really mind-blowing thing, eh? Yes indeed. Way back when — maybe not as early as 2000, but pretty damn close — I remember dreaming that one day there'd be a portable system I could go around playing Legends on, and now not only do we have that, we've got Legends 3 coming out on 3DS! All this cool stuff from the past few years was once stuff I could only dream about. I still don't believe some of it. What a time to live... And now the polls are open. This is gonna be a tough one.. >__<

Just wanted to say how proud I am of all of your work. Seriously, everyone did such a fantastic job... If I wasn't so preoccupied I'd have contributed a song or two in DASH's honor. Once again, great work gang

Shift If you have time, we'd still love to hear a song or two in DASH's honor. Wow. Poll time is nearly over and we have a three way tie. I hope it stays that way. Just for lols. Also some of the other entries could really use some votes, because they were awesome. (Get voting if you haven't!) Oh. Whoever voted for my submission is too kind. (and I swear it wasn't me!) I was happy with mine, but I don't think it's nearly cool enough to deserve a vote. All the same, thanks. =)

Voting was tough especially since the late entries were pretty damn cool. But I think my initial choice is still the best.
I almost didn't vote since I found out about the poll yesterday. I wonder if there are other like me.
