This is pretty cool. According to Protodude's Rockman Corner, MegaMan Legends 3 may very well end up using a portable version of the Dead Rising/Lost Planet engine. (Not confirmed, but it does appear that they are making a portable version of the engine, so it may be likely) I don't know if that necessarily should make people who insist Legends belongs on a home console feel better, but it should be pretty cool, besides. I've only played them a little bit myself, but Dead Rising and Lost Planet look awesome and Legends would totally fit. (of course, we've known that for a while) Geez, if Capcom keeps making good on their teases over the years, I'm gonna end up looking pretty foolish for doubting them! They're doing so good now, I'm half expecting them to build a time machine and send Legends 3 back in time six years to the first time Inafune said it was going to happen.. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. Hah. Nice, and I think that they probably would use it, since it seems like they've supposedly designed the MT Framework engine with Legends in mind... However, in Inafune's earlier video, he stated that "this time around, we are going to try a new style of game development..." Wonder what that could mean? That could be anywhere from making a new game engine, to somehow making Legends 3 and 3D support work together, to whatever. Vague.

Well I'm pretty sure the "new type of game development" is referring to the fan feedback system that they haven't detailed yet. Although you are right in that it is a vague thing for him to say. I hope we really do get new info this comic con and not just more "stay tuned" talk.

(once again, I am too slow) Err... When Inafune said that I think he was referring to the whole deal about getting input from the fans during the development process to produce a game that everybody wants. We're expecting more details one what that meant at the New York Comic Con which is about one week from today. I don't think he's going to let the fans pick everything right down to the game's engine though. That would be just crazy — in fact I hope he means much much less than that.

Oh I see, so he was referring to the feedback input from fans.
Alright, in that case, they most likely will be using the MT Frameworks engine, huh?
My mistake!
I wonder how fan feedback works anyway?
Is it just a giant suggestion box where anyone and everyone claiming to be a Legends fan could throw their two cents in?

We don't know that yet. There will apparently be more information at New York Comic Con on either the 8th, 9th, or 10th.

We aren't going to know about the fan feedback really until at least NYCC next week. The only thing we do know is that there is a board on Capcom Unity specifically for it.
I'm trying to work out the best way to go about bringing Legends Station into that fan-input camp without making us all looking totally elitist and snobby, but without sacrificing the community we've built while Unity was ignoring the series. I was thinking something like identical signatures and making sure our Unity display names matched the (non-Halloween) ones we have on Legends Station. However, like I said, a lot of the direction we'll most likely take regarding that will probably depend on what they choose to reveal to us next week.
Right now I've been trying to figure some stuff out regarding that with the rest of the staff, but if any of you have ideas that would help keep our forum rep alive and really show the rest of the Mega Man Legends community out there that we devoted a lot of time and a lot of posts to this series even through its bleakest days, you're welcome to put them on the table.
(And yes, K-dog, I got your note on this just as I was talking with fab about it and will get back to you once we figure out a plan we can work with.)

Shouldn't there be an announcement for this? if any of you have ideas that would help keep our forum rep alive and really show the rest of the Mega Man Legends community out there that we devoted a lot of time and a lot of posts to this series even through its bleakest days, you're welcome to put them on the table. Well, if the community could help me with my fan game… ;D

The Halloween thread is in Mumbo Jumbo like it is every year. And please for the love of god keep your fan game out of the Development room.

Also, I'm assuming Dash 3 won't be apart of the initial launch... but maybe if I cross my fingers reeeally hard... :24: Oh I really doubt you'll have to worry about MML3 being a launch title. February is merely 5 months away. That's very little time in game development terms. The implication is that MML3 is still mostly on paper. The only way it could be done by February is if it were extremely rushed and slapped together, the exact opposite of what Inafune said he wanted to do with it. I'm pretty sure we're a good year away from even seeing screenshots. In fact, I think it's important to remind everyone that what they announced this week was the "Megaman Legends 3 Project", not technically Legends 3 itself. It's really just getting started. I don't mean to scare anyone with the prospect of MML3 getting stuck in ten more years of development hell à la Duke Nukem Forever, but we still shouldn't pack away our imfamous Legends Fan Patiences just yet. A year to a year-and-a-half of waiting still lies ahead.

Right, Raijin. And from the way it looks, it'll be a year and a half of waiting like we've never waited before. We might even get all-access backstage passes.

I'm pretty sure we're a good year away from even seeing screenshots. Yiiikes, are you serious? I mean, I know I'm not expecting the game to come out at 3DS launch, but I didn't think we had that long a wait ahead of us. And I'm not sure how important the emphasis on the word “Project” is, but you may be right on that one. Wow. Hah. We may just beat those Classic MegaMan fans in terms of the longest wait for a sequel. And there may just be time to wait for whatever revamped 3DS Nintendo decides to release before Legends 3 comes out.

February? I thought the 3DS wasn't coming out until March.
Oh, it's February for Japan. I just realized, I probably won't be able to own the game in English for an even longer time than it takes to make the game. Just as long as the localization is better than last time.

3DS comes out in late February in Japan (really, like February 26) and March everywhere else.. I don't know why they're even spacing them out if they're that close together really.
