I'll be honest. I originally came here only to entertain myself during PMM's downtime. However, after spending some time browsing both the site and the forum, I have come to the conclusion that this site is highly underrated. Nowhere else can you find such a superb and comprehensive Mega Man Legends site.
So why wasn't the site more famous as it rightfully should be? I have thought for a good while why this might be so, and then it hit me. It's the forum.
First of all, the custom forum graphics don't display on my computer, and I assume the same holds true for others as well. But the biggest problem is the lack of members.
I'm not saying we should turn this into a spamfest like GameFAQ's, but this forum needs more members to give it the spark of life it so desperately needs. Now I know this is easier said than done. For this reason I have created this thread-- to come up with ways to increase activity on these forums.
When PMM comes back, I will advertise this site in my signature. Seeing as I am the most active poster by about 2000 posts, it should draw a fair amount of attention.
It is said that a website is only as good as its fans. The fans form a community which manifests itself in the forum. By increasing the activity of the forum, perhaps the entire site can gain more recognition, which it certainly deserves.
So, does anyone else have any ideas?
EDIT: If the staff feels I am intruding, I greatly apologize and feel free to lock this topic.[/b]

You have a nice point, X, but the problem isn't just the lack of members here, but the lack of Legends fans in general. Legends is an underrated series. And unfortunately... things don't look so good for the future either(from what I've heard the PSP ports of DASH have kinda sucked). Advertisement would certainly help, to an extent. Still the lack of fans is the main problem, in my opinion.
Personally, I don't really mind the "lack" of members here. It's kinda nice. Everyone knows everyone. It's like Cheers! ;D Naw, but more people would certainly be nice. I don't know really how we could GET any more members apart from advertising, unless by some miracle, DASH sells really well, makes the turn around of the decade and develops a huge fanbase. ...of course there're the cons to that, but yeah.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
When I want to determine the quality of a site, I don't visit the forums. I look at the site itself. Anyone who’s played Legends and has glanced over the site has surely realized what a great resource it is. The problem is that no one bothers to glance over the site, what with the small fanbase and all. No one is interested, and thus, not as many people come to the forums. Anyone who wants to look up information on Legends has probably found this site by now, and anyone who hasn't probably isn't interested enough to post on the forums anyway. The site is appreciated by about as many people that care to appreciate it. The only way we'll be getting new members that actually bother to make a few good posts is to wait for old fans to trickle in, or hold out for a new game. But do we even want that?
The flood of members I mean. Not the game.
That’s my opinion anyway.

And unfortunately... things don't look so good for the future either(from what I've heard the PSP ports of DASH have kinda sucked). What are you talking about? The port to the PSP is great! I have it and can guarantee its quality myself. On the PSone, the graphics looked blocky and akward. Althought they were good for the time, by today's standards they just don't cut it. But on the PSP, because everything is reduced in size, the characters have a more defined look and the smooth appearance of their motion is absolutely stunning. And you've gotta love the new artwork on the cover (even if the original Dash already had a great cover, it's nice that they showed some originality). Anyway, as for the lack of Dash fans, I think advertising is the way to go. If everyone here brought in just one person, it'd be perfect.

Eh, well 1up.com gave it a bad review(well, in my opinion the review was pretty just, but still).
Anyway, advertise all ya want, but right now it won't do any good since new members seem to have been disabled? o.o Has fab put his cooky plan into action afterall? o.O

This forum is quiet some days. This forum becoming a big forum would be great, the site is definetely worth it. This website has a lot of great fans, so if a website is only as good as its fans, then this website gets very high marks.

OMG. The most...interesting things pop up when fab and I are away.
I don't really have the time to post my personal view on the matter right now, but I thank Rockman X for his good intentions, but also need to ask that you wait until fab comes back and can make a statement on this before taking any actions. I hope you understand.

There is a huge lack of legends fans in england, there were about three in the capcom-europe forums, and i only know of three me, my dad, my brother and that one english legends fan that used to be a member but left.

*Cough* I'm English, so that's one more...unless when you spoke of the traiturous, board-abandoning lonely-poster you were referring to me. If that is the case then all I can say is "HA--I have nothing of interest to say." Which is true. I am trying to get people into Legends over here. ^_^; Very few of my friends are into games much, and while I have won one of my closest friends over (mostly through non-stop references to cut-scenes and continual reciting of quotes), we don't share the same gooey smile whenever the name "Teisel Bonne" is mentioned...and neither does she spit on the floor whenever the name "Susan Roman" is mentioned. But yes, MMLS may not have members coming out it's ears, but that does make it relatively cosy, mmm?

Well... I do agree that the current number of members is due more to lack of Legends fans rather than lack of interest in the site or lack of advertising. Personally I'm pretty happy with the level of activity around here, all things considered. We have our slow periods, surely, but there are just as many times where I can hardly keep up with all the notification e-mails pouring into my inbox. Still, I have no problem with anyone trying to promote growth around here. The more the merrier, and there will always be the need for newcomers because sooner or later it seems many people lose interest in hanging around forums.
As for the disabling of new members mentioned by Pitch (cooky plan?), it was only temporary. Feldinaut and I were both away for awhile and didn't want to leave the lower level mods alone to deal with (or be unable to deal with) the possible troubles that sometimes come with the arrival of new members. Newcomers will be able to sign up again tomorrow.
If I'm forgetting to address something here or missing a point, whatever, it's 'cause I'm rushing to do a lot of catching up. So, let me know.

lol you said a while back you were questioning whether or not you should disable new members. I'd have guessed this was because of that one incident a shorter while back though.
but yeah, I agree. The activity here's fine as is, but it can stand to get better. *nod*

I've seen a lot of people at the Mega Man Legends 2 forum at Gamefaqs who don't want to come here because the rules are too strict. Why does everyone think the rules are so bad here? It's probably SIM. He's bitter toward MMLS because he couldn't say whatever he wanted, and so he tells everyone who might join us that the rules are too strict and that MMLS isn't user friendly.

Come now, #42, let's not say things about people who have no power to defend themselves here.
Honestly, I don't really see why people think this place is strict, but if ANYTHING I'd say it's because they're GameFAQers. GameFAQs has no rules about spamming. Flaming yes, illegal content yes, but there're no rules about having content in your posts or anything like that. But people can post as many stupid pointless annoying messages as they want. Those at GameFAQs who are worth having here at MMLS are those who don't mind actually posting something of substance. Simply put, if they don't wanna be here, we don't wanna have 'em here.
