Name: ShoebafunHP: Location: Saul Kada, Elysium | |
Overview
Welcome to the 5th topic in the 'Rate that Reaver' series. This topic is about a reaver that almost scared me away from the Legends series, Shoebafun! This reaver hides out in Sal Kada's Ruins as well as Elysium, and is the bane of pretty much every Legends 2 player, waiting in pre-determined spots to catch unsuspecting diggers off guard.
Shoebafun waits beneath the ground, waiting for someone to step on it. When this happens, it quickly surfaces and proceeds to use it's body to drain the life out of anyone who dared to tread on it. They prefer to hang out in hallways, but some of them hang out in open rooms as well, particularly the Elysium variety. This can be particularly dangerous because they can hold you down while another reaver gets a free shot in. I must also note that they are quite creepy looking; scared the stuffing out of me when I was a kid.
Dealing With It
Getting these things out of you hair is more of a proactive effort than a reactive one, as staying near walls is a guaranteed way to avoid these buggers. However, some quick reflexes are also a good way to avoid being drained. When you activate one of these reavers, yellow lines begin to rise up from the ground. Jumping or rolling at this very moment will get you out of harm's way. Although part of the reaver is exposed when you are jumping, shooting it will still prove futile, as it is completely invincible. Should you get caught, mashing the jump button will get you out of Shoebafun's clutches.
Coming In For A Landing
I honestly don't like these things. On one hand, having a booby trapped ruin does give it a more realistic feel, but we already had Mimic for that job. These things get pretty annoying, especially the whole minefield of oddly-colored ones outside of the Master's House. I give Shoebafun a 5/10.
If you want to see a certain reaver next, let me know!

These things drove me crazy back when I first cleared that ruin. That said, though, these things don't leave a lot of a visual impression, do they? I remember back when I drew those 2 collections of Reaverbots that this guy is the absolute toughest to make look cool. XD
Anyhow, I'd say 5/10 sounds about right.

Apart from the initial “OMGWTF!!!1one” moment you get the first time you see one of these buggers, they're really not that bad. The damage is minimal, really. They could've been much, much worse if you ask me. 5⁄10 seems about right, for the fact that they are totally uninteresting, though.
Escaping just before it traps you feels bad-ass, too.

They really could have benefited from having subtle hints as to where they were located, y'know? It's unfair to the player to be sent out blindly into a field of invisible traps with no clues. There's no skill involved, therefore no game.
Of course that's assuming you don't have catlike reflexes. I tumble dodge these about 40% of the time, and even then they don't do much but annoy me. :/
6/10, for unnecessarily interrupting the flow of gameplay. A pretty neat idea, just executed poorly IMO.

Pretty much what everyone else said; good idea, could have been worse, could have been more interesting. 3/10 for mindless repetition. By the way I don't remember there being a minefield of them outside the masters house, do you mean the ones in the defense area?

It's pretty much a blind run when you're running towards the house; I usually jump my way over there to avoid these things. They really could have benefited from having subtle hints as to where they were located, y'know? Yeah, at least the Bonnes have enough class to give you a visual warning as to where they put their land mines.

As with everyone else I don't care for these guys. One step they could have taken to make them better was to have them pop out of the ground with a full body, chase you for a few seconds, then burrow back underground ready to pop up again in another random location. 3.5/10

These guys are the reason that Tyranobot killed me on my first run through. I'm just running through the halls and ~BAM~ low health on a boss fight.
4/ 10 for being cheap. Good thing they weren't going for insta-kills when they put these guys in the ruins, or a few TV's would f had PS controllers stickin' out of em'.

I must admit, I found them annoying. One moment you're busy fighting one of the other reaverbots (or what-ever-else), and BAM! They come to swallow all your HP.
I'll give them a 4/10.

These Reaverbots we're definitely the most annoying thing on MML2, I still remember falling into quite a few in my time and as they drained my life away I kept using healing items until I figured out a way to escape them, but to no use, eventually prompting me to ragequit the game xD. Though I remember a couple of instances on Elysium where I broke free, by getting smacked by the Juraid.
On a side note, my sig says it all xD

I gotta echo the above opinions for the most part, but, personally, I always kinda liked them because I really like their textures!

...I actually never noticed their textures before. Now I really want to see what they'd look like rendered in high definition. Or any definition that's higher than two halves of a circle.

But Data is right next to the door that leads to the Wojigairon you could had replenish your health. Any way would it cool to have Roll make shoe part that either detect them or you can walk on the trap without triggering it. So what do you think of my shoe part idea Buster Cannon? Would be a nice additional part if a remake of this MML2 is made.

Would be a nice additional part if a remake of this MML2 is made. There are quite a few things that I would change in a MML2 remake. Among them, Shoebafun would cease to exist. Creating a new foot part (and forcing the player to equip it) just to deal with a single reaverbot would be too much. There's really no reason for this reaver to exist aside from hindering movement.

Maybe if there were a co-op multiplayer element where you could have a partner spot for you on something like a Wii U screen or a second 3DS or something, they could be able to tip you off as to their position and make your life a little easier. Or if there were a weapon like the Grand Grenade or something with a shockwave that could weed them out early so you're not forced to wonder until they actually trap you, it wouldn't be so bad.
