I've currently started a MML fangame using rpg maker xp and the XAS action battle system. It's got a steep learning curve (especially because its all in darned portugese...), but I've gotten the basic battle system worked out (i think), and I'm continuing to program in the specific weapons and features that will ultimately make it legends.
I don't have much of an idea of how I want the STORY to go or when I want it to occur, I guess I'll come up with all that later. I'm mostly focusing on how I can encorporate as much from the original games as possible to make it look and feel like a legends game. IE; same health bar, reaverbot eye that tracks when enemies see you, upgradeable special weapons, and so on.
Currently, the biggest roadblock I'm going to have are graphics. There is a distinct lack of custom mml sprites of any variety. I am trying ot style my custom graphics off of the sprites included in the rmxp RTP set (basically EXTREME editing from them). That way they all look uniform and I can even use a lot of the environment graphics as they are now.
Still, a LOT needs to be made from scratch. I haven't been working on it for more than a couple months (without too much to show for it either), and the only graphics I've tried my hand at so far are megaman, and he's a long ways from being done. Though I do have a few directions of his movement done.
If anyone is interested in helping to make sprites or environments, the assistance would be greatly appreciated. Pretty much any and all resources would be useful, even if I just had someone else start on something for me to finish or touch up. Even if THIS project doesn't get off the ground, placing a lot of MML sprites into circulation could encourage other people to use them for their own projects. Please let me know if anyone's interested in lending me a hand.
Also, nice to meet you all. XD; It's good to see other people as crazy about mml as I am..
*Edit: also, if anyone out there is a RGSS pro that could also be very helpful. @_@

Cool to see others getting into game making, but I gotta say I'm a little skeptical. It's probably better to wait until you have something to show before starting a thread and expecting others to even notice. You can use any of the sprites posted here if you like. The beta looks like utter shite and I'm redoing all of the graphics, so they're up for grabs if you don't mind printed midriff tops, iPods or irremovable Drill Arms. And yeah, these sub forums need a stickied game resources thread. Original OST can be downloaded from legends-station.com, but SFX and other things are much, much less easy to come by.

You're taking this game far too bass ackwards for my liking. You need to come up with a story and some game mechanics before you ask for this kind of help. You need a purpose first of all, and then some clever and original ideas that will excite people to help you. Then you can start asking for art. Then you can start programming. You need a game concept! People will be more interested in hearing about your game concept than about a XAS.
"I don't have much of an idea of how I want the STORY to go or when I want it to occur, I guess I'll come up with all that later. I'm mostly focusing on how I can encorporate as much from the original games as possible to make it look and feel like a legends game." = wrong approach
Don't start talking about your custom paint job if you dont' have a car yet. You should start working on a concept first. If you are only interested in programming, volunteer to help someone with their project.

Wow. PMD actually looks very pretty. I've never seen a game styled like that before, it's very visually appealing. Not sure it's the style I'm going for but it looks very nice. Why are you going with different graphics if you don't mind my asking? I think it's very original. The dancing iPod data is awesome XD Even if I can't use the graphics there were a couple sfx I didn't have already(though I STILL can't find the darned sf of megaman running).
As for my approach, if you don't want to help or support then don't. O-o I'm not really asking for a lot, in fact if no one else does any sprites I'm sure I'll live and do them myself EVENTUALLY. I was most concerned with if I could encorporate all the features I wanted into the game or not. I didn't want to start making something and find that I couldn't actually finish it after I made tons of events and cut scenes and areas just because I can't program it right.
When I first think of what I would want if a new legends game comes out, I think I would want it to be like the games I love that came out almost ten years ago. I want all the old weapons back, I want a lot of the same themes and concepts intergrated. Some new features would be nice, but I want it to mesh with the series. That's my biggest fear is if they make a MML3 that it won't feel or be remeniscent of the old games at all.
I'm not saying the story isn't important or that I haven't given it ANY thought at all. I'm just not decided. I actually have a MML3 idea, but I don't know if I want to go with that or not. At the moment I'm figuring out how many of the original features I can encorporate. It's not like I'm asking people to put together a team of mighty morphin game makers or anything, I was just curious and I thought I might be more inspired to work on it as a project if other people knew about it and maybe wanted to contribute.
It's nothing fancy now and that's why I only just posted about it instead of submitting what I have as a demo. Hopefully soon I will have something more substantial and much more interesting to share. I suppose until then I will just keep my thoughts to myself?

Haha, no, we'd be really happy if you shared your ideas on forums, just don't announce a game before you have a game. Chickens, and hatching, and stuff like that, right? We would really like to hear your game plans, and appreciate any other contributions you have.

Eh, sorry if I was a little defensive. I just have a specific thought process I suppose. Anyway, I've made some more progress on it but nothing fancy... Which isn't exactly what anyone wants to hear I suppose... I DO have a story. I gave it some thought and I decided that if I really wanted to do a fangame it needed to be a MML3 story. I didn't want to copy->paste something into the middle of the MML universe that all the characters would inevitably have to forget or just agree not to talk about ever again. So... I don't really have an awful lot else to show for it yet but I'm still alive and tinkering. I've gotten more of the engine and I actually started the script. Though ultimately I need to break down and finish Megaman and a few reaverbots before I have anything pretty to show off though. If I could get the sprites together I could at least make a playable demo. I'll let yall know when I have something more interesting to share. PS: I noticed the new thread for fangame resources. I would be happy to share my rmxp styled sprites once they're done. It's probably one of the game makers a lot of people are really comfortable with and since it's in the same style as the rtp sprites you can easily intergrate it with them.

It's good that you want to share, once we have a lot of resources we can start making meshes out of them. Also, we have an official fangames ideas thread now, so if you'd like to visit to drop off your mind feelf ree too. PS: I hope to see those sprites soon!
