Well, here it is....the new Myspace.
My sister discovered it a few months ago and urged me to join just so she could have more friends on it. She has since been obsessed with it.
My profile was constructed as a joke at first, only so she could add me as a friend. I have sinced checked up on my profile a few more times to add some nonsensical interests and such...and I think I may have actually developped a thing for it....its disgusting, I know.
Incidentally, if anyone here is on there, feel free to add me as a friend. Or we could just talk about it on this topic.
My facebook name is Laloush Featherbottom, by the way...

facebook has actually been around for a while now. Originally it was just like, a MySpace for College Students. Just this past year I believe, it was opened up for everybody. There is one major technical difference between Facebook and MySpace. Facebook is coded in PHP, while MySpace is coded in Macromedia(/Adobe) Coldfusion. Coldfusion is a proprietary language, while PHP is available to everyone under the GPL. Why that matters, I don't know, but I figured I should mention it. Plus, for those reasons and many many others I greatly prefer Facebook over MySpace.
I have a Facebook somewhere.. I don't use it though because unfortunately very very few people I know do. Just about all my friends are on MySpace, not Facebook, so I kinda just let it die. I like Facebook though. Before the movie 300 came out, Facebook had an infinite capacity for photos on pages while MySpace could only have like 15(MySpace now actually from what I hear has space for up to 300 now). Also, not allowing users to use CSS to alter the page, or any HTML at all for that matter is just awesome. Not only do MySpace's ridiculous layouts put major drains on their servers.. but they're ugly as sin and they take forever to load on my computer. ..man, I wish my friends would get smart and get Facebooks. (Of course, who am I to talk? I taught myself webdesign using my MySpace..)
I'm not even sure if this is really even on topic, but I've been sitting around doing nothing for hours and I needed to ramble about something.

I'm on Facebook right now. Oh Facebook, why are you so addicting.....
I've never had a Myspace, so I can't compare the two, but all I know is that Facebook has consumed my life. So many people from my school has facebook it's not even funny. And we're on it all the time. I can walk into the school library and several kids will be on facebook. It's really fun, but it takes up too much time...and sometimes I feel stalker-ish when looking at others profiles, reading about their likes/interests, and everything else that's listed. XD
One good thing I'm happy about is at least I'll have some way to talk to the friends who are going away to university next year. Although, picking up a phone would be better...but it's so much harder to keep in touch that way.

I'm surprised they let you go on in school. At my school all social networking websites(MySpace, Facebook, etc) are strictly prohibited. I'd be banned from the lab forever if I were caught on one of those.

Well, I heard on the news that they banned Facebook from Ontario schools. Maybe it hasn't taken effect yet, because anyone can access Facebook from all computers at the school. But it's not like they let us go on it, like every other kid out there we have at least 2 windows open at once. The librarians do tell some people to get off of it though...
Some website are prohibited already at my school, like RateMyTeacher.com, so Facebook will eventually follow.

lol, that's what we do at my school too. I'm surprised they let you go on in school. At my school all social networking websites(MySpace, Facebook, etc) are strictly prohibited. I'd be banned from the lab forever if I were caught on one of those. My school computers already have a program installed that prevents you to go to sites like facebook. So, even if I wanted to, I couldn't go. That's not to say I actually wanted to go. *Scoffs*, the only reason I would go would be to add several nonsensical jokes to my profile. ***Remember: Username is Laloush feather bottom.***

I've got a facebook that I use to keep in touch with my schoolmates during breaks. It's a pretty nifty thing, actually, considering I've had one since before it got opened to the general public as opposed to just college students and people with job networks. My school actually plans a lot of events on Facebook, so it's not banned there...then again, my school isn't a high school, and you can access pretty much any social networking site from its computers without penalty.

I have one of those face book things. Just like Myspace, I don't understand it. I think its a breeding ground for random pedophiles and nobody can type in some what decent English.

It does get quite annoying at times, the urge to check your account every now and then. I think all these public networks get quite entertaining at times, meeting people & customizing your profile to your liking, even including a playlist for whoever wishes to listen to what kind of music you prefer. Point is, it gets addicting and it does get in the way, plus most of these sites are simply imitations with a variety of different faces. It also shows how much the public craves for social contact (online-wise that is), the world isn't too kind & there are alot of people out there who want something/someplace to feel secure in & the most convenient solution could be these sites & in a wider viewpoint, the internet. Also, look at how big myspace.com has become, it's even hit the advertisement boards & sponsors big events such as concerts & underground shows. Yet i can see how in a general sense, that it is purely a hunting ground for pedophiles, impersonaters & napsters. All in all, it does have it's good sides, keeping in touch with friends, in a less boring way than hotmail i guess. Oh & I do own accounts on both sites facebook and myspace, add me if you wish: and at the time that I created my myspace account, I pretty much wasn't too inspired to think of anything better than - www.myspace.com/spritegivesmegas (and it doesn't haha)

Hah. .. so I went to login to my Facebook account. After struggling to remember my password and eventually being able to retrieve it, I found that my account had been Disabled. I had to send an email requesting clarification on why I was disabled, and when I did I received this message: “Your account has been disabled because your affiliation with your High School network was not successfully confirmed within 60 days of joining Facebook. We take this policy very seriously, because network verification is one of the best ways to ensure that our site remains safe from abuse. Unfortunately, you will not be able to regain access to your account. This decision is final.” ...X.x as it turns out, I actually got locked out of my account permanently because I joined my high school's network, but neglected to actually add anybody from my high school as a friend. I didn't have anyone added really, except my cousin, my sister and her boyfriend. Hahah. No harm done, though. Having multiple email addresses, I just re-registered and now I'm set up, and I gotta say.. I love it. ^^; I mostly plan on using it strictly for people I know personally.. but I suppose if anyone here wants to add me, you can go right ahead and do so.

To add to the flurry of initial reactions, I first heard about facebook when my aunt was given an invite via e-mail and was asking me for help registering for it. I was like "Why would you really go on with that? Can't you look for him/her on friendster instead?" on my head because she's scary when she's angry. I ended up registering from it too when some of my friends are asking me to add them on facebook.
Today, I don't regret having a facebook account, especially now that friendster pulled out from social networking by being a social gaming site and I don't a MySpace because I know like only two people or so that has it. I am gonna miss the custom CSS layouts, though.

I've had a Facebook account for a couple of years now. It's helped me keep in touch with both old friends in real life and a couple of ones from message board days that have long since faded. Honestly, my only hesitance with this is when it comes to posting on people's profiles that keep their info totally public. I guess I just don't want my real name out there on the net for everyone to see... just the people I'm close to. Does that make sense? I think it does.
Yeah, I suppose I could make a fake account, but eh. I don't use the site all that much outside of keeping in touch and liking a few pages here and there anyway.
