Yeah, don't read any further than this very sentence if you don't want to ruin the ending of Harry Potter 6. Too late. You've already gone two sentences too far! I'm warning you, don't read the next paragraph...
Okay, then.
While it kind of surprised me that Professor Snape was the half-blood Prince, it did not in any way surprise me that he was eeeeee-villll.... At least, not in any huge way. He's consistently been portrayed as being horrible in the books, although much less so in the movies, which is a little odd.
What was surprising is that Draco is not. He was unable to hurt Dumbledore at the end of the narrative, and reveals to him (and to Harry, unknowingly) that the only reason he has been helping out the Death Eaters is for fear of his mother's life (and his own).
Ummm. Yeah. It's too bad that Dumbledore died. (I have now completely ruined the book's ending for anyone who hasn't read it all the way through. I warned you.) I was kind of expecting that, but not until the last book. I also would not be completely shocked if Harry himself dies at the last.
The biggest actual shocker for me, aside from Draco not being totally maleficent (now, there's a witch who could give Voldemort a run for his money!) was that Harry is going to quit school, regardless of whether or not Hogwarts reopens at the end of the summer. Fred and George quitting was a surprise, also, but not quite as pivotal, as the narrative is never from their points of view. Anyways, apparently, all of the three main characters will be forsaking their further education.
What's weird about that is, if you've noticed, all of the Harry Potter books say "Year (X) at Hogwarts" on the spine. This will obviously not be accurate if Harry does not go to school in his seventh year. Yeah, I just tend to obsess about little things like that.
Of course, for those of you who haven't figured it out yet, R.A.B., the one who has stolen Slytherin's necklace, which contains a piece of Voldemort's soul, is...Regulus Black, Sirius's brother who defected from the dark side and was later killed for it.

HOLY S****. I knew RAB was familiar (and not 'cause they're my brother's initials).
I was (and still am) kinda hoping for a fight between Lupin and Greyback. I want Greyback to die... Oh, how I want to see read of him dying horribly... And I want to see more of Lupin... ('cause, y'know, he's really cool... the actor they chose to play him in the movies can never do him justice...)
Now here's my super-retarded theory of what was going on (which seemed to fit until about 3/4 way through):
I thought that Dumbledore was already dead, and that someone was using that ring to assume his form. And that Lily Potter was the Half-Blood Prince. And that Malfoy would be killed, thus killing Snape, who was secretly instrumental to the Order of the Phoenix, and not at all a lying cheating doublecrossing filthy turncoat *insert bad word here*.
uh, yeah. I hope nobody takes what I just said for gospel or anything. Because it's just what I thought at first.
Erm, annnyway:
hehehe, Peeves making people light their pants on fire.... lolz.
Oh, hey, now I figure Harry just got set up to be the next Headmaster of Hogwarts.

My sister has this book. Mayhaps when she's done with it I can borrow it and get a little reading in. Of course, I really did spoil it now, by reading this didn't I? Ah well, I don't really care. Any word on how long this one is? Is it even longer than the 5th one?

Trying not to see the ending, it's about 652 pages long. I think a bit less pages than 5... *can't compare - doesn't have 5 XD *

It is a good chunk smaller than Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which clocked in at just over eight hundred pages.
BRG, I also suspsected Dumbledore might have been someone else for a while, because of the ring, which was later discovered to belong to Voldemort, although I guess the reason he was wearing it was because he found the Horcrux (which the ring was) and destroyed it, keeping the ring as a kind of trophy.
I think that we as readers were supposed to think that Lily was the Prince, although there was no need to throw us off the trail---there really weren't any clues to the Prince's actual identity that we could have followed on our own.
Also, I'm thinking, since Snape is a half-blood also, perhaps HE, and not Voldemort, is the Dark Lord which is mentioned in Professor Trelawney's prophecy, and perhaps we'll see Snape end up usurping Voldemort's position in the final book. And Harry will have to kill him. Probably.

For anybody interested, here is the official timeline of the Harry Potter series. If I get the chance, I will later write a short article on why I did not like the ending of the sixth book.
Events
* 382 BC - Ollivander's goes into business making magic wands.
* c. AD 962 - Primitive broomsticks are first used for transport.
* c. 1000 - Hogwarts is founded by Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. Slytherin petitions to only enroll pure-bloods and, in disgust, leaves the school, but not before building the Chamber of Secrets.
* c. 1294 - The Triwizard Tournament is established. It will later be discontinued (date unknown) when the death toll mounts too high.
* 1473 - First Quidditch World Cup is played, during which all 700 Quidditch fouls are committed.
* c. 1891 - Albus Dumbledore begins his first year of teaching at Hogwarts.
* c. 1926 - Shortly before his birth, Tom Riddle's Muggle father leaves his wife (a witch) and she dies giving birth to her son. Riddle is raised in an orphanage.
* c. 1931 - Minerva McGonagall begins at Hogwarts.
* c. 1937 - Tom Riddle starts at Hogwarts.
* 1943 - Riddle opens the Chamber of Secrets, killing a girl who will later become Moaning Myrtle, and frames Rubeus Hagrid for the attacks.
* 1943 - Riddle murders his father and grandparents (from his father's side of the family).
* 1945 - Dumbledore defeats the dark wizard Grindelwald
* c. 1960 - Riddle murders Hepzibah Smith, stealing artifacts of Helga Hufflepuff and Salazar Slytherin.
* c. 1970 - Riddle resurfaces, calling himself "Lord Voldemort," and begins his quest for power and immortality.
* 1971 - James Potter, Lily Evans, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew and Severus Snape begin attending Hogwarts.
* c. 1979 - Sybill Trelawney predicts Voldemort's downfall.
* 1981 - Voldemort kills James and Lily Potter on October 31 but is later defeated by Harry. Harry is left with a lightning-shaped scar and is sent to live with the Dursleys. Sirius Black is arrested for the murder of Peter Pettigrew on November 1.
* 1991 - Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger start at Hogwarts.
* 1992 - Harry foils Voldemort's plans to steal the Philosopher's Stone. Ginny Weasley opens the Chamber of Secrets under the influence of Tom Riddle's diary.
* 1993 - Harry saves Ginny and defeats the memory of Tom Riddle, destroying Voldemort's first Horcrux in the process. Sirius Black escapes from Azkaban.
* 1994 - Professor Trelawney makes her second prediction. Harry learns of Sirius' true colours and Peter Pettigrew escapes. Voldemort murders Frank Bryce. The Triwizard Tournament is held for the first time in over a century.
* 1995 - With the aid of Pettigrew, Voldemort is restored to full power.
* 1996 - Voldemort fails to recover the Prophecy from the Department of Mysteries, due to the efforts of Harry and company. Harry learns of Professor Trelawney's first prediction and the wizarding world is finally alerted to Voldemort's return. Sirius Black is killed in the Department of Mysteries.
* 1997 - Albus Dumbledore is killed by Severus Snape. Harry learns of the existence of Horcruxes and sets out on his quest to destroy the remaining four that Lord Voldemort has sealed fragments of his soul in.

Indeed it was sad. Dumbledore was my favorite character, and Harry/Ginny were my favorite couple. All of this destroyed in a few mere paragraphs. I really didn't want Dumbledore to die at all, but if he had to go, it shouldn't have been like this. Throughout the entire book, Dumbledore is quite boastful, which isn't very befitting of his character. But I can overlook that, and rather liked the fresh, imposing attitude afitted to him. But it all went down hill from the moment he drank the potion. Dumbledore should NEVER whimper. No exceptions. As if that weren't bad enough, they then have him die at the hands of none other than Severus Snape. Throughout the entire book I predicted that Severus would give his life for the Order of the Phoenix. I was wrong... instead he killed my favorite character. And last but not least, Dumbledore's final words "Severus... Please..." were completely unforgivable. As the book further clarifies, Dumbledore was begging for his life. To the very last moment, I though Snape would turn around and save Dumbledore. Instead, he threw him off the tower with, a death unbefitting of such a great man, although still better than that of Sirius, which was just plain confusing (I'm hoping the movie version will clear this up, since it is mostly a lack of description). All in all, I am highly disapointed in J.K. Rowling. IMO, the first two books were great. The third book suffered from what I like to refer to as 'time-travel syndrome' and the movie version had several inacuracies; despite this, the book was good. The fourth book remains my favorite to this very day -- it was absolutely astonishing! The fifth book was rather dark and I felt that some parts of it were stupid (Harry taking the punishment from Umbridge), but it was very good nonetheless. This final book, however, is a true let down. It started great and maintained good pace throughout the entire story, until the end when all comes to ruin as explained above. Shame on you Rowling, shame on you...

Could it be possible possible that Dumbledore wasn't begging for his life? Maybe, for some odd reason, he wanted Snape to kill him? Maybe it was some sort of plan that the two worked out? Or....maybe Snape really was evil, and Dumbledore WAS begging for his life. *sigh* And Harry won't be going back to Hogwarts again, either! That isn't right! At least Ron and Hermione will be going with him... Also, I never want to read the word "ejaculated" in a Harry Potter book again!

Well, after thinking about it over and over, I have come to the conclusion that I don't think Dumbledore is not really dead.
When Dumbledore said, " Please... Severus..." I think he was indeed asking for Snape to use Avra Kadavra on him, or rather, a fake version of it. Where do I get this idea you may ask? Well, because in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J. K. Rowling went out of her way to point out how when somebody (in this case Cedric Diggory) they simply fall to the floor dead.If you recall, Dumbledore went flying through the air.
To further support my above-mentioned theory, a big part of the book was the use of nonverbal spells. Snape could have mouthed the words Avra Kadavra and been thinking of a completely different spell that made it appear as if Dumbledore was dead. This would be highly beneficial to the Order's goal as the wizarding world would think he is dead and Dumbledore would then be able to pursue his mission in secret. At the same time, Snape would have gotten Voldemort's full trust by now. It's a theory, but I think it can work.
Edit: Also, the real death of Sirius in the fifth book sets an excellent precedent to make Dumbledore's death believable, making it all the more surprising when Dumbledore makes his glorious return. Either that, or I'm looking far too deep into this. @_@

I don't think Dumbledore's death was fake, because it takes all of the validity out of the dramatic effect.
You see, even when Harry was in direct danger from Voldemort, he always had Professor Dumbledore to fall back on, even when he sometimes didn't know it. But now, he really is on his own, and there is no one, save perhaps Harry himself, of whom Voldemort is afraid.
Also, it really makes more sense for Snape to be evil, if you think about it, because what actual motivation have we seen for him not to be, other than Dumbledore's own word, throughout the entire series?
Anyone have any thoughts about my "Snape being the Dark Lord" theory?

As I said, it's just a theory. But you have to admit, that it does make some sense.

No, Snape can't be the dark lord. He didn't mark Harry as his equal like the prophecy said, did he?
