(knowing my record for topic flops, yada yada yada, post condensed, etc)
So yeah, I got this game for christmas last month and well.. sorta just forgot about it actually. School and whatnot. But man.. I must say it's pretty nifty.
I myself, have never played Viewtiful Joe. Well... once in a store it was on one of the display consoles, but yeah, mean what I see, I've got like... no experience with it so I dunno how it stacks up in comparison. But it's pretty neat.
The touch screen usage is especially nifty. There's not really that much to it, but you have three VFX taht you gather throughout the game - Split, Slide(I think it's slide, I very often get these confused), and Scratch. Split will have you use the stylus to move the top half of the bottom screen left or right. Somethin you gotta really do to understand, but let's say it's like this:
You can slide the top half to jump over and get past it. Also, if there's a wall with something on the other side, you can use it to by pass said wall. It's really nifty, and they make use of it alot.
Slide changes the view to the way it is on the top screen - that is, zoomed in. You're more powerful in this mode, and if'n there're things you need to touch, button combos, etc, you can do it in this mode. There're also times when enemies will take damage touching them, and certain enemies that can only be defeated that way. and from what I hear there's a really nifty effect you can buy in-game that does something really cool in Slide, but I haven't gotten it yet. It's real nifty though.
Scratch is neat too. Say an enemy's about to attack you, and you dodge it, they'll be stunned temporarilly, you hold the R button down, and touch 'em with the stylus, move it about some so as to create that scratchy effect - don't use your nails though... >< - and objects just rain down on 'em. It's nifty, because you can do this to multiple enemies at once moving the stylus back and forth about the screen. It's also used to dislodge objects in some cases.
That's how the touch screen's used. There's other stuff too. Slow's another nifty effect, that as you might assume, slows the game down, and makes your attacks more powerful. When you dodge an attack, followed by an attack in slow, the enemies go flying in whatever direction you send them. o.o It's nifty2! There's lotsa other things this is used for too. Like when someone throws a projectile type-y weapon at you, you slow time down and knock it back at 'em. Phun stuff.
Yeah, and you buy attacks and junk with coins collected in the game between levels. I hardly use them though, which may be why I'm stuck. ><
So far from what I've seen the game's got 5 levels - there may be a sixth one, but I haven't gotten there yet. But in level 5, I'm re-battling every boss - this screams "MegaMan!" to me, but that's okay. Not sure what happens after that, mainly because I narrowly got past the bosses in their respective stages, and now taking them on one after another is tricky.. Not playing while on the road might help. <_< But yeah, eachlevel episode has a slew of different acts to it, I'm not quite sure how many(more than 10 less than 20, I think). Some are shorter, some are longer, there's a lotta phun areas to play in, and the game itself is just a ton of phun. So yeah. No multiplayer, though... but I'll admit that would be a headache and a half, so yeah.
So yeah, DSers give it a shot if you're a fan of Viewtiful Joe, or of games that make good usage of the touch screen. And that is all.
