Often times, when we play through our favorite games, eventually the games throws us a cheap shot, forcing us to either backtrack, or start over completely [hence the name].
Does anyone want to share some cheap shots their games have thrown them or other friends?
Just so nobody feels nervous, I'll start off.
I was playing MoTB, running through Course 1(Strength), and the Servbot who tosses bombs {and the occasional plate of #21's curry} didn't toss the curry until the timer reached 00:00. Hoo, boy I was ticked (Level 3-3, for crying OUT LOUD!!!...... I feel better now).
Like I said earlier, the cheap shot you've been thrown can come from any game on any system. If you find one that really got under your skin, feel free to post here.

I don't know if this qualifies at all, but in Final Fantasy X, you need the sigils and crests for each character to get their ultimate weapon and you have to do something particularly hard to get each crest and sigil. I got every one except for one of Wakka's. To get it, you had to play a Blitzball (for the unenlightened, Blitzball is this sport in Final Fantasy X that's kind of like underwater soccer/ football and you can actually play full games of it in the game) tournament that had the sigil offered as one of the prizes for winning. Well, about 20 tournaments (and these tournaments are about 3-5 games each and Blitzball is not the most fun sport to play) later, NO SIGIL! So I just decided to give that up and settle for the second best weapon . Still, though, I wasted a good 4 hours on just playing boring boring blitzball. A couple of the guys here can attest to how tedious it can get. Man, that sucks. It's like a big fat slap in the face, bola. I hope you tortured that servbot afterwards .

Well it doesn't really count, per se, but in MMBN two there were chips ONLY attainable through Multiplayer Netbattles. And in order to get the chips, BOTH players had to have three stars, and the odds are ONE in fricken THIRTY-TWO. Some were REALLY cool chips too. And I know NO ONE ELSE who has the game. Made me very angry. I never could get the chips I wanted in that game.
I dunno, it's a cheap shot, but it doesn't affect your path throughout the game's storyline.
Oh, but there's another kinda lame thing in MMBN three that really kinda sticks it to ya. Right before you fight Plantman, you have to burn a bunch of plants and stuff in his area to get to him, and to do that you have to sacrifice a Fire Battle Chip for EACH plant. Ant it's like a puzzle and you have to find the right one, a BUNCH of times. By the time you get to Plantman himself you're outta Fire Chips and you have to fight him with no elemental advantage... well you could gather two or three chips prior to the battle. Plantman's a bit of a pushover anyway.... but yeah, you often run out of Fire Chips a lot while you're burning plants, but the OilBody NCP hepls with that. Pretty cheap, though.

Oh my gracious, I'm sure I have several of these, but the most recent is this: I was playing The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Really fun game, though it's on the short side. I had been playing off and on for about a week, nearing the end of the game. I don't remember what the location was called, but I was playing the dungeon in the clouds. Now I had nearly gotten to the end of it, past the minibosses and all that, and was in a rather large room with a couple of doors. I had one key. I entered the only door that appeared accessible, which led to an outside ledge with cracked floors, a few enemies, AND, UH, THAT'S IT. There is nothing special behind that door. I've looked in FAQs. Nothing about it. I've explored it myself. It's just a waste of a key. I found the door I was SUPPOSED to go through, but guess what? I CAN'T FIND ANOTHER KEY!! So I'm completely stuck. I really hope I don't have to start all over. EDIT: AND I GUESS THAT STORY OF ME PAYING $150 FOR KINGDOM HEARTS DOESN'T COUNT AS A CHEAP SHOT, SINCE IT WAS VOLUNTARY, BUT GEEZ. DANGLE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY A REALLY HYPED UP GAME A WEEK EARLY IN FRONT OF MY FACE, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO? I HATE YOU, DISNEY AUCTIONS. AND I HATE KINGDOM HEARTS. LOUSY MELODRAMATIC SAP GAME WITH LITTLE TO NO PLOT DEPTH AND HORRIFICALLY BORING GAMEPLAY!!

The biggest cheated feeling that comes to mind in all of video game history for me, is the fact that even if you buy each and every version of Pokémon, there's some legendary Pokémon that you can't get except by stupid special events! I don't care about most Legendary Pokémon, but it is annoying to know that your Pokédex isn't really full. And though I hate using uber Pokémon, I can't help but be crazy about Mew, it's one of my favorites! I guess you can get it in Emerald these days, but that certainly didn't help back when I wanted it in Red. All you can do is use a cheat device, and then you feel like some scum of the universe. >_<

I hear ya, fab. I remember waaaaaay back in those days. Though, if I recall correctly that was only a problem in the US versions of the games. Couldn't you get all one fifty pokemon in the Japanese games, then get a Mew at the end or something? But yeah. Mew and the plant one from G/S were my favorites and I couldn't get them. Drove me insane.

I have a few... MMBN3 I agree with Pitch about MMBN3 and how you had to use up your fire chips to burn all the plants. The problem for me was..I didn't have more than 5 fire chips at the time! I also didn't like the part where I had to use up Aqua chips. I had to go to Hades and get Iceball M's(White Version) over and over again, because for some reason I have Bubbler chips in my folder and I wasn't going to waste them.
MMBN4: Red Sun Ok, if you've played MMBN4 you might have been annoyed with the same task....does Castillo ring a bell to anyone? You had to go around the real world, and the cyberworld to find 50 points. All of that trouble to enter the tournament....@_@
GTA:SA This one is just me, because most people don't have this problem. I've only played for a few hours, so that could be the problem. When I'm done a mission, I can't find C.J.'s house!!!! They put it in such a random place..XP I'm not used to the map so it takes me at least 5 minutes to find which way on the map I'm pointing, and to find a route that will take me to his house so I can save. I also don't like how I can't walk around the streets without getting shot at...that's always bugged me about the games, because I always die at the wrong time.
Digimon World 3 The. whole. game. =( Ok, I'll give one example. I was training up my digimon, and I decided to go exploring. Bad move...the digimon in one screen over were so strong I died in one hit.....and IIRC the point of the game was to get to a tournament, but they cut it out in the NA version!!

I sure I've experienced a lot of cheap shots, but the only one I can think of right now is in Tales of Symphonia.
I can hardly even remember what the storyline was, but I know I had to go to this cave and beat up a giant gopher thing. Anyway, I flew around for awhile, searching for the evil rodent's lair. I didn't take me too long to find, and when I did....I went inside!(duh) However, when I went inside, this little elf....thing stopped me! I don't remember what he said, but I found out that If I wanted to get in there, I had to give a potion to another elf....thing in a completely different place! So I searched for the other cave for about 15 MINUTES! I went inside and found the little jerk, only to find out that I didn't have any potions! I turned the game off, and I haven't touched it since. I know I could go and find a potion in a shop, or something, but I started playing a different game and forgot all about it...hmmm....

Hmm... I've experienced lots of cheap shots before, but I can't recall any particular one at the moment, though I can relate to Pitch's entire comment on MMBN, both with the multiplayer only battle chips and the wasting of Fire battle chips on plants in MMBN3. Actually, MMBN3 was a cheap game like that all around, with all the stupid errands they make you do, like going through a maze filled with powerful viruses and finally getting where you're supposed to go, only to find out that you have to completely jack-out, leaving that spot, do something in the real world, and then return to that spot... and repeat the process about 4 more times. The game was full of that kinda of stuff. >_< Oh yeah, another one, Mario Kart: Double Dash. I've played that game so much, I can do mini-turbo's constantly, make the turns right in every course, make sure I get the item blocks, etc. I'm about as good as someone could get at the game, and yet all the game has to do is throw a random Blue Shell at me as I'm going over a hole (or any other part of a course for that matter), and not only do I lose the race, I don't even get second sometimes... It's unbelievable how many times things like that have happened, and constantly throughout the race. There's only so much skill you can have, and then it's all up to the game's random items.

I have a good cheap shot from MML2
Earlier today, I was going through the Calinca ruins, and I got hit by an ice zakobon(they freeze you so you can't barely move), knocked in front of an enemy generating enemy (the big purple thing that sends out little purple things that home in on you) and there were about 5 zakobon surrounding me, and shot them, but the lockon kept selecting the enemies I didn't want to, and I was killed by a Zakobon... sad.
I share Blyka's problems in double dash, best chance is to stay right with the AI until the last few turns, then blast away though. AI get better weapons more often on 150 cc, thats cheap.

I felt kinda cheated that Beyond Good and Evil didn't have more missions. Even though it's one of the most awesome games ever.
And all fans of Brave Fencer Musashi got majorly ripped off (in my opinion) with the creation of the piece of crap known as Samauri Legend Musashi. It's cell-shaded (which I hate with a passon because of the huge glowing and unnecessary outlines), it's got the most horrible voice actors EVER, a crappy plot, repetitive gameplay, lousy music, and worst of all:
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL.
Now, this doesn't seem so bad to most people (considering other Square games), but to me, who did all but pray for a sequel to BFM for about 6 or 7 years, it was majorly disappointing.
Square managed, as they did with FFX-2, to drain all of the magic from what could have been an amazing sequel.
PS: Dobby is the Half-Blood Prince. OHOHOHOHO!

Dang you, BRG!!! I haven't read Harry Potter 6 yet, and I can't get it till my birthday next month! There's this racing minigame in Jak & Daxter that you activate by talking to a guy. Well, there's apparently a bug in the game--if you talk to the guy more than once, you can't beat the minigame, ever...and if you want to get all the Power Cells, you need to beat the minigame. Believe me, that really stunk--I only needed the one power cell to collect them all! Dang you, Jak & Daxter!!! And as for MMBN3 (yeah, yeah, I think it's a pain too)--I don't like those stupid, mandatory sidequests that require you to battle a jillion enemies on the net just so you can get one specific battle chip. It's so...pointless.
