Anyone know a good program that rips music off of PS1 games? I mean, I own the game, I should be able to listen to the music whenever I want. I've tried PSXMC, but when I ripped Ape Escape, all I got were the voice segments. I just want the music! But Feldi said that when she ripped MAOTB, she said she didn't get anything. Also, DDR and DDR: Konamix didn't give her any music. I WANT GAME MUSIC. ESPECIALLY APE ESCAPE. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I've done some sound/music ripping from the PS2 (which, ya know, plays PS1 games) but I didn't use just a program...
What I did was connected the audio-out cord from the PS2 into my Line In jack on my sound card, through a number of wires and whatnot that I could find throughout the house. At the time, I was recording on a Win95 machine, so the highest bitrate was 44800 (?) but that was pretty good for back then...don't know why but there wasn't a lot of sound loss, even if I was at times using wires I found in an old science kit (ya know those little flimsy wires). And since you're using the actual hardware of the system, there's no worrying about faulty emulators that sound emulation is the last thing on their mind... Through this method I've ripped stuff from the following systems... NES, N64, PS1, PS2...and even GBC (if you get a male-to-male wire)
That should work...with programs nowandays that can record at a 320k bitrate...
EDIT: Of course, you'll need the actual disc or a "legal backup" of a disc to rip the music.

The problem with that method, other than it being a hassle, is that often times game noises get in the way. I once listened to a recording of the Spirit Temple theme from The Legends of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and not only could you hear Link's footsteps as he stepped in the door, but the constant "SCHWING!" sound effect from a blade trap in the next room over. Your method works well for a good number of games, but some of them definitely have that problem... Ripping directly from the CD just gets you the straight music, but apparently some games encode it in some weird non-standard format, making programs like PSXMC a shot in the dark. I just wish more games had soundtracks...

I use that recording method, and it has suited me quite well. But yes, background noises are a problem at times. Recording music requires you to find a place where you can stop and record without interruption. Games like Legends are easiest because you can simply pause the game and the music continues to play normally. Then, there are times that this just isn’t possible, such as with the Fockewolf, where there was a horrible jet effect in the background. Sometimes, little clicks may also come up. This is when you have to break out a sound editing program and work with it a little. I use SoundForge myself, given I’m not very good at it...
Overall, it’s a huge pain in the neck, and most of the time you can’t get it to sound just right. I would love to have a program that can rip music files directly off of the disk, but I have yet to come across one...
Never tried the emulation method though. As for OSTs, many leave out some of the best music. I don’t know why, but they do. There is some music you just can’t get without ripping I guess.

^ PSXMC is a program like what you're talking about, not an emulator. I don't even know how you'd attempt to get game music from an emulator, honestly... www.zophar.net/utilities/psxutil.htmlThere are a few similar programs listed there, but the ones I've tried either don't work for me or have the same issues as PSXMC. >_<
