Anyone else here played Paper Mario 2: The Thousand-Year Door? That is seriously one of the most fun games I've played in quite some time. It's a blast, even if you don't like Mario games that much.
Also, it features the coolest video game character possibly ever, Goombella, who is both cute and sassy, much like myself.
Hmmph. Take that how you will.

OMG! I love Paper Mario! The first one and the second one are kind of tied with me. My favorite characters EVER are from the PM series! My favorite is Watt, the daughter of Li'l Sparky and then it would have to be Vivian. You like Goombella? Well I say Goombario could beat her in a heart beat! I LOVE PAPER MARIO! P.S.: I beat both

Good games, but I agree that the original was much better then the second. PM2 lacked in plot as compared to the first.
Goombario > Goombella

Heh, I’ve played both as well. As with most of you guys I liked the first better, my reasons being because the music was better and it had more originality (you have to admit that a lot of things in PM1 where simply carried over to PM2, such as several of your chars’ abilities). Still, how they used paper in the second game (A paper Mario airplane ) was intresting, as was the bowser versions of the classic mario levels, and smashing all those toads during the Glitzville chapter was almost as fun as throwing Johnny off Nino Island. BTW, anybody remember the original Mario RPG (Legend of the Seven Stars) that Square made? You know, the one that inspired Nintendo to go and make a Mario RPG themselves which eventually evolved into Paper Mario...

Yeah, I have that game, too. Nintendo couldn't re-use any of the characters or concepts from that because Square owned all the original characters and such.
I've never played the first PaPEr Mario, though. I still think Goombella is awesome.

Yay!!! It's my 300th post!!! I've only played the first Paper Mario, and I loved it to pieces. Come to think of it, I don't know why I ever neglected to pick up the second.
As far as favorite characters go, mine are Watt, Bombette, and Jr. Troopa.
My favorite "dungeon" was Shy Guy's Toy Box, and favorite town was the snow one at the end, where you had to find Herringway.

Wow, I didn’t really elaborate on my first post, did I? Best clarify a little. That poor post doesn’t give the game justice. Yes, the first game has better music, better story, and awfully good graphics for an N64 game. The second one seemed much more generic and repetitive. There was really nothing new added to it. And Jr. Troopa, my favorite Mario character ever, was not even in it. He got replaced by that General idiot working for the X-Nauts. I’ll tell you something though. The second was a huge jump from the first graphically, and the chapter with Doopliss was done excellently. Either way, it just wasn’t the same. The characters were new and made me uncomfortably itchy. They also made some things far, far too obvious. The dungeons and areas weren’t as complicated either, although the second game did have Bonetail. Nifty little guy that. But then, it also degraded Bowser to the rank of a side-story lackey. I hated that he was nothing more then a minor boss with just about no story, although playing as him in the minigame was sort of entertaining. Either way, I would suggest playing it if you liked the first one. Sure, it may not be as good, but it’s still Paper Mario. Which reminds me, I have to get around to playing Super Mario RPG...

The thing that makes me the most mad about the Paper Mario series is all the haters who say "BLEH, THIS IS NOTHING LIKE SUPER MARIO RPG!!!" Who said it was going to be?! Super Mario RPG is great and all, but give me Peach in a giant floating castle with a star as her only companion any day. The greatest thing that Paper Mario has going for it is definately the main town areas. There's so much to do and so many cool side characters, my personal favorite being Tayce T. After reading mlt's post, I think Paper Mario 1 was a better game. I loved the penguin world with the little ninja guys from Super Mario 2. I also liked star way and the star cards and the star rod and all the stars *_*. I hope and pray for a third one on the revolution .

Actually, I hate to admit, but the part where you release the star spirits and get to see the millions of little sparks everywhere was my favorite part. =_=
I’ve yet to get all of Tayce T.’s recipes right. According to my list, I’m missing one, but I can’t imagine what it is. One complaint I have about both games is that they’re far too simple. It is a very long game, but you still breeze through most of it with ease. That’s not to say that they should have just made it like the hundreds of other RPGs out there with tens of thousands of HP on each character and attacks capable of blasting planets into breadcrumbs. But they could have made it so that you have to think about things and not make them so straightforward. Good for story progression. Bad for gameplay.
Will they make a third one? I’m counting on it. The entire line of Mario-based RPGs have been insanely popular. Even better, it’s going to be coming from Nintendo. I have more faith in them then in other companies that they know when to kill a series and not try to milk it.
Then again, TTYD wasn’t exceptional... Perhaps this is the last one in the line... Hopefully, if they do bring out another, it will be a fresh breath to the series with a bit of a more recognizable location. For example, the first PM was one of the few that let you explore the many different regions of the world. In PM2, you were confined to an area that you’ve never heard of before, with a much different look from the Mushroom Kingdom. Some people may like that, but I like it when they expand slowly instead of tossing you into an unknown world. I would love it if they made a third game that brought the story back to the Kingdom, or, even better, created some geographical link between the worlds from the two games so that you could explore both.
Also, PM had a much better credit roll then PM2 with the parade, and Tubba Blubba had the best music out of either games. Just a couple of thoughts.

Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga kind of graphically imitates Paper Mario...except the characters are more 3D-ish and there aren't any paper references. It was a good game, and it kind of reminded me of PM. I think this is where Miyamoto's heading though--more of the MLSS direction, with the new DS title (the one with baby Mario & Luigi) approaching.
I can personally say that from playing through MLSS, I feel more comfortable in the Mushroom Kingdom, so the fact that you play in another kingdom in the Thousand Year Door disappoints me. The Mushroom Kingdom feels more like home, you know?

Yes, the bean kingdom was TERRIBLY annoying.... But I thought that the first Paper Mario was very challenging. Almost all of the bosses required you do something special to defeat them. And the last boss on PM2 was quite hard as well. The main thing that disappointed me in PM2 was the last (I believe it was the last @_@ Correct me if I'm wrong, which I think I am) crystal star you had to get where instead of having to explore a whole world, you had to do the whole stupid train mystery and then you get to the city and the star is practically handed to you without a cool dungeon to explore. But I really did like the tree level and the little slug things that lived there (I've completely forgotten their names ). Oh, and one more thing that disappointed me in Paper Mario 2: the fact that after you defeat the final boss, go through all the ending stuff, and are able to explore freely after you beat everything and the only character that you see from the first game is Bow (and her butler too, I guess) is REALLY disappointing..... I SINCERELY HOPE THAT THEY MAKE PAPER LUIGI. READING THAT THING WAS HILARIOUS. SOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY!!!

^ Punis! That's what they were called! I love the way the Elder always grows to like 10x her size when she's yelling, and how it even scared Bowser senseless... Yeah, I got TTYD for my birthday ;D. So now, I guess I will take the time to discuss what I like and don't like about the game so far, and compare it to PM. I really liked the part where you go to Glitzville and solve the mysteries surrounding the Glitz Pit, which kind of reminded me of the mystery in Shiver City (I think that was what it was called), except it was more drawn-out. I like Zess T.'s personality better than Tayce T.'s, but with Tayce T. I remember being able to make more recipes before she expanded her repertoire. The new moves (like the paper airplane, etc.) add to the game, and I personally enjoyed being able to custom-name my own Yoshi. ;D After getting the Emerald Star, I liked the part where you got to play as Bowser in a 1985 Mario Bros-esque world too...whenever you ate the meat, he kept getting bigger, and bigger, and BIGGER... However, some things weren't as great when compared to the original Paper Mario. For me, the most annoying thing was the Refund Badge. In Paper Mario, when you put that badge on and used items (especiallly Tayce T.'s dishes) in battle, you got coins upon coins upon coins. Now, you get like three. Which means you have to actually fight to make any money, and many of those badges do NOT come cheap. Also, I have played up to Twilight Town and HAVE NOT DIED EVEN ONCE. In Paper Mario I can at least say I had lost some battles. And the X-nauts annoy the living crap out of me. Seriously. They're that bad. I don't know about you guys, but they...aaaurgh, I'd better not even say it. I'd probably get myself banned. Rogueport wasn't as bad as I thought, and nowhere near the awfulness that was the BeanBean Kingdom. It seemed like just a slummy section of the Mushroom Kingdom to me, and fortunately the only bean I've seen so far was in the Juice Bar in my favorite town, Glitzville. I also like the star spirits better than the crystal stars, because the crystal stars are just that, whereas the star spirits had some personality. However, I liked the "Journal" section in the Main Menu, which kind of made you want to collect EVERY recipe, badge, and tattle in the entire game. And if you sold a badge, it would still be on your list and in your "collection", so you don't have to walk around with like a thousand seemingly-useless badges and about five decent ones.
