Let me tell you something about MMLEx at this point. The only staff member I can say currently working on it... is nobody. For the first time ever I can fully admit to myself the project is going nowhere fast. There is a glimmer of hope with the new modeler joining the team, but I've yet to see what I can do with this.
This isn't a "feel sorry for me" thread. This is perhaps an admittance of defeat more than anything else. MMLEx is perhaps most hampered by its timing throughout the years. When MMLEx was popular, and had people wanting to join it left and right, I was unable to take care of it, I wasn't experienced enough, right through until almost to the beginning of 2007.
As for the staff of MMLEx, they've great to me for many years, as well as MMLS (being my first forum as well), you guys have really cradled this project from its infancy, through its many dips, deaths, and etc. MMLEx was doomed by the start, headed by two of the most inexperienced fan game developers of all time. I actually like that fact though
MMLEx was rewritten several times, completely scrapped 3 times, and I'd say the last 7 months are all that have gone to the last version of the game. For a fan game headed by the biggest n00b of all time, I'd have to say if fared well due to a well placed stream of luck constantly keeping it afloat no matter the odds or the problems.
Before the final split in the staff leaving MMLEx down to me, I was told by a staff member to let MMLEx die, end it as it didn't have a great life anyway, and keeping it alive any longer is just kicking a dead horse. I can see the point they are making, and could understand the logic in letting it be, starting fresh with a new game, a new team, without dragging MMLEx over.
Rather than stating MMLEx is dead, I stated it was postponed, but really, that was a ploy to avoid the fact that I was alone on MMLEx, and I am not a modeler, I'm not a level designer, and I'm not a coder, meaning I'm completely useless alone. I can do bits and pieces of each one, but alone, I cannot put them together.
I could rant on and on about its past, but as of now, MMLEx of old should be forgotten, along with a majority of the team that powered it. If MMLEx should rise from this certain death (as it did SEVERAL other times) I will contact secondary staff members (people that are not modelers, level designers, or coders) that did not abandon the project before its collapse.
I don't think I can get the proper staff for a MML project without paying money I don't have to develop a game that will earn me no money in return, therefore I may have to move to other communities to gather staff, but most communities would not care about a MML project in the first place. So that brings me to the conclusion of this post with two points.
I will be starting my own community dedicated to 3D fan game (and non fan game) development, where ideas like MMLEx will meet the necessary staff so that they don't go down a terrible path like MMLEx did. MMLEx will always be a part of MMLS, and I will not take it from it, but my new community will support similar projects to MMLEx, in their ambition, their impossible goals, and their great ideals that make them so special.
Who still cares for MMLEx any longer after 2.5 years? I know I do, but I don't think there is enough of a base for it to develop it for at this point in time.
I'd really hope to get a response off of everyone who reads this topic. This forum has meant a lot to me over the years, and I'm never going to leave it, but a large part of my connection to MMLS is tied into the work put into MMLEx, and the people who believed that the project can happen. Thanks to every single person, who ever cared about MMLEx, even if you've never posted, or never joined the team, I know you guys are out there too, supporting me with emails.
