thomas.loc.govand in the box for bill number put this: HR163 then hit search, leave the keyword box blank. it will bring up the bill that tells all about it, that was presented to the house of rep's on Jan. 7, 2003. "If this bill passes, it will include all men and ALL WOMEN from ages 18 - 26 in a draft for military action. In addition, college will no longer be an option for avoiding the draft and they will be signing an agreement with Canada which will no longer permit anyone attempting to dodge the draft to stay within its borders. This bill also includes the extension of military service for all those that are currently active. If you go to the selective service web site and read their 2004 FYI Goals you will see that the reasoning for this is to increase the size of the military in case of terrorism. This is a critical piece of legislation, this will effect our undergraduates, our children and our grandchildren." Copied from livejournal user plastikreligion

I would be glad to be drafted into the military, but I wouldn't want to volunteer.... I mean I would want to, but I'm not in the physical shape for it.
If it were up to me, I believe ALL Americans should serve at least one year in the military.

The draft is bullflop, they're trying to take away our freedoms one at a time. This thing will hopefully never fly, unless the President says "Not voting for this bill will make you un-American," in which case all the silent majority will vote for it because otherwise they will never be able to talk about how patriotic they are at their church socials.
Thank God I'm almost 26.

We have some interesting people on this forum. If the draft is instated then so be it. I can think of few people who really have something better to do with their life than serve their country, not that living isn't a something to do in and of itself, but of the few truly wretched things you can do skipping the draft would label you as a traitor.
I'm with ZFGoku, everybody should serve a year or two, after a few years of that we would have an inmobilized force of millions upon millions and only radical islamists would throw their lives away hating it. Now did you really want to start a political debate on Megaman Legends Station, because times are changing, its no longer the Regan years. That old saying of "I disagree with what you say, but will defend to the death for your right to say it," died with abortion, gay rights, and ultra liberalism. Now its,
"I will not go quietly into the night..."

What I really don't understand is the underlying Bush-bashing in this topic. Regardless of your feelings about the president, the first time I heard of this bill, a bunch of DEMOCRATS were pushing it.
Even so, I seriously doubt that bill will pass.
And I've gotta go with BM1-3. You know they say the two topics never to bring up if you don't want to start a riot are politics and religion.

To get this out of the way then for those curious, I am a Bush-basher myself. Every Bush/Cheney bumper sticker makes me want to claw out my eyes. I hate the man and his speech impediment.
With that aside, I don't feel too great about knowing that I might be shoved off to die for, ker-stabbity, someone's SUV tank. Seeing that I'll be 18 in about six-seven months, let me tell you that I am a wuss. Seriously. I never was cut out for service mentally. Physically, I could pull it off but I'm prone to snapping and breaking down. If getting my car's right side smashed in was enough to drive me into a crying-heaving fit, there would be no way I could take a mine or whatever they are using against us exploding near my Hummer in Iraq. I'd probably get discharged for mental health reasons.
Well, should the bill pass. If the Democrats are pushing this thing, then the Republican majority's probably not going to take it. At least, the last time I checked, there was a Republican majority on Congress, or was there?
On the other side of the coin, Democrats and Republicans feel more like the same animal.
Crap on me for sparking the topic further. Just vote one for Anarchy.

That was a very unwise post.
There is more to say, but I don't want to start, just remember this is MMLS.

Yeah, be careful or John Ashcroft, whose minions are currently monitoring this webpage, will destroy you instantly. I've never liked Ashcroft, ever since I visited the Governor's Mansion when I was in fourth grade and he refused to descend the stairs to meet us, even though he was on his way down. Stupid? Probably.
I did not once mention the President's name in my previous post, although I actually was a supporter of his until I learned that Halliburton is getting million-dollar contracts that they subcontract to Iraqis for fifty thousand dollars. It's not fair, but being human and not a superior Bureaucratic or Purifier model, it still makes me slightly frustrated, even though were I in Halliburton's place, I would be extraordinarily happy.

Well, I think you can be registered as a "conscience objector" or something like that, meaning that you think war is total... uh... cow poopie and that you won't join any armies.
Yeah, I know I'm 16, but... hey, I'll be 18 next year.
And even if they DO do that, you could just go to the training thing and do nothing. I mean, NOTHING. I don't know what they'd do if you showed up and refused to do anything. I've never heard of it happening, but I suppose it has at some point.
Call me whatever you want, but I think the terrorist threat is a load of crap too.
stupid idiot old guys in congress who don't care 'cause they aren't affected... I have met my congresspeople, and they're not all that bright. So, liek, write to them and tell them that it's a load of... cow poopie. Although you'll only get generic responses from them.

I did not once mention the President's name in my previous post...[etc.] If you were referring to my post, I didn't mean for you to be included in that. Actually, what I really meant was the "EVIL BILL!! MUST STOP EVIL BUSH!" option in the poll. Sorry about the confusion.

Okay, I didn't get half of that (Seconds too late, I'm reffering to Bluerobotgirls) but a few notes. First off if you show up for service and refuse to do anything, your going to be eating for fifteen seconds and putting the rest of the food in the garbage yourself. If that doesn't break you, and the push-ups aren't working, then you can wash toilets for you part.
As for the Halliburton thing, I heard that that's why people hate Cheney, but not Bush. Apparently he didn't push that they decided for him, and his company got it because of the past relationship, not necessarily because of present transitions, if you know what I mean. If you don't I will say that I'm not one-hundred percent behind the war, I was, and I still am in a way, but looking back I would have just blown up the weapons facilities, inspectors and all, and if anybody wanted to complain then I'd play it by ear. *Bang, bang*
Otherwise, regarding Bluerobot girl's comment I won't call her any names but I will say, 'if you think that the terrorist thread it cow poopy, you may be a lot of things, but your not the conservative compassionate candidate. And a warning. I'm sure that Aarond and Shelldragon both have some pretty strong feelings about this, but you'll notice they're containing themselves, as one should on a non-relative site. However if you and or Fire Gryphin make yourself look anymore liberal I'm going to take a vow of silence regarding you, so come on, Shelldragon has provided a site of political debate, er... arguing that should be more than enough.

All I have to say is I hope the bill doesn't pass. If I DO get drafted, I'll just show them the big-ol' scar on my knee and say I blew it out years ago. (It was just a tumor I was born with.)

Posting this here pulled the trigger. Peh. If anything, I'm going to be a hypocrite and say that this should have never been posted here in the first place. BM, you're right - replying to this WAS unwise.
And I think the "Evil Bush" option is silly. I don't like the man but I don't think of him as "evil," just better off not in charge of the nation.
Still, that doesn't change my stance in that I am against the bill.
This topic should've started off like the "Wicca" topic back at MMLU: locked.

I don't follow politics in any way shape or form, so I may be oblivious to certain undertones in this thread. However, to my unknowing eyes, the thread doesn't seem to have gotten out of hand. There's no rule about starting a political or religious thread, and so as long as everyone can keep their self control, I don't see why it can't remain open--there's always the option of ignoring it if people don't like it. If it does get out of hand, Feldinaut's posted here so is obviously keeping an eye on this thread, and can lock it when/if the time comes.

Fine enough. =X
Although, I would not mind a debate forum for threads like these so we can scream about politics and religion and all those touchy things and not worry about spam and off-topic and all that.
But that would be straying too far from Legends, methinks? (Just as this post is going away from the focus of this thread - I shall shut up about it after this then.)
