You actually play as Teisel in the tutorial level, but I like Tron better. There are enough games out there where you have no choice but to play as a boy character. Apparently they sell better to a male demographic, according to the latest Keiji Inafune interview, but I think that's part of the reasons why less girls play games in the first place.

The robot you play as is usually the Gustaff or a modified version of the Gustaff, though there are others...only that drilling-thing and the flying pig come to mind.

Well, you don't pick your robot, you just use different ones that are the most convenient for the mission.

This is kinda off topic, but I don't like playing as a girl and I am one. The logic I have is, if I am going to see their butt for about 85% of the game, it better be a guy's butt. But when it comes to Tron, I have no qualms over playing her because she is so darn cute, intelligence, and cool. ^_^ ...plus that playing any character from the original MML would be plain cool. ^^; I think that characters aren't the problem why more girls don't play videogames. I seriously think it's the subject matter. (It's definitely a big part for me, unless I know the characters, then I might risk buying a game solely on previous games enjoyment.) And if it's not the story, then how many hot/cute guys are in the game. (Ugh... Most people are so superficial...)

When I'm playing games, I kind of find it hard to identify with a guy character, especially if he's trying to rescue some girl in the end (unless, of course, it's Mario, but only because he's been rescuing princesses since the eighties.) To be completely honest, I got kind of mad because despite the apparently "extensive" character customizations in Saint's Row and Fable, they wouldn't let you play as a girl. But alas, that's a rant for another thread. I personally try to get into character when I'm playing a game, especially an RPG or something where you're...well, role-playing, in a sense, but it's harder if you're a girl and the character's a guy, and vice versa. If it all boiled down to staring at a guy's butt, I'd probably be more inclined to finish God of War. I know quite a few guys who wouldn't be caught dead buying a game if the main character was a girl, even if it were a game that's had excellent reviews, and that's just plain annoying. Wait a minute, in MoTB, you don't even control a character that looks like Tron, you're controlling the Gustaff! In fact, they don't even switch the model for the intro when you play as Teisel, so playing as a girl should be the last of anyone's worries. It's like playing as Samus in her power suit. Back when the first Metroid got released, you couldn't even tell she was a girl.

Back when the first Metroid got released, you couldn't even tell she was a girl. I totally agree with you when it comes to RPGs, especially in this time and age. Programmers should already know there are females out there who play their games. Such games should be able to change genders, because having a customizable character should mean something, right? I digress though, I really don't play that many games that has customizable features (other than probably changing the palette color of the character). So changing to a girl character is out of the question for me. (You can probably guess that generation I grew up in and love. ^^; ) Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be deterred to playing a female character. It's just there are not that many Samus, Claire Redfield, or Tron characters out there. It has to be some overproportionated pretty face and I can't relate to that. But you bring up a good point for this game: you don't really see Tron unless cutscenes! So, mega90's arguement is weird...
